Chapter 466 Investigating
Recently, in Pearl Peak City, something big happened at the school. A famous movie star, Pamela, donated a teaching building to the school.
Knowing that Pamela had come to Pearl Peak City, Chloe felt uneasy. She didn't expect Pamela's influence to grow so quickly.
Chloe found out that Pamela's father was a knight from Emerald Isle. She had previously investigated Pamela's background, gathering a lot of information from books and the internet. Families with such history were very mysterious, and the information online was often unreliable.
When she was in Emerald Isle, she heard rumors about Pamela's father "Fred" retiring from the film industry. She wanted to go and take a look, but when she arrived, she didn't even make it past the entrance; they had invited only top-tier media personnel.
She just wanted to figure out why Pamela always targeted her?
Chloe knew that Pamela was not one to be messed with. Otherwise, she wouldn't have left Francis for three years. Even if she saw Francis in front of her, she didn't dare let Francis call her mom.
Moreover, on the night of the donation, Pamela was waiting at Chloe's doorstep.
When Chloe saw her, she was shocked.
Chloe's residence and workplace were no secrets to Pamela.
"Well? Ms. Baker, are you not going to invite me in for a seat?" Pamela said.
Chloe opened the door.
Pamela stepped inside and glanced around, evaluating the space like any other guest.
"Not bad, Ms. Baker. It's cozy enough for you to live alone," Pamela said.
"Please, have a seat." Chloe didn't want to be polite, but her manners wouldn't allow otherwise.
"Do you know that Paisley was killed by Janet? Do you know who was behind the whole fiasco?" Pamela said.
"I don't know. The people and things in Maple Valley have nothing to do with me, and I don't care!" Chloe said indifferently.
Chloe's nonchalant demeanor suggested that she was aware of Janet’s involvement in Paisley's murder, and she suspected Donovan might be connected, but she couldn’t piece together the full story.
Pamela noticed Chloe’s reaction and felt a twinge of concern, though she tried to hide it. Her concern, of course, was for Donovan. It was evident that Chloe’s feelings for Donovan was strong.
Since she liked him, Pamela was determined to break them apart. Pamela knew that Chloe must already be feeling the pain of separation from her loved one.
"Initially, Donovan asked Paisley to deliver some children's clothes and food to Janet. Donovan had never sent anything before, but this time he did, and he specifically asked Paisley to deliver it. He knew Paisley very well. I think that the tragedy between Paisley and Janet was deliberately caused by him. Paisley had heard about Donovan and Janet, leading her to believe that Jake was Donovan's child. With Paisley's fiery temper, it was only a matter of time before a confrontation occurred. During the altercation, Janet, in a desperate attempt to protect Jake, accidentally injured Paisley.
"After Paisley was admitted to the hospital, her condition was not immediately fatal. Lori approached Donovan, asking for financial help with the medical bills. Donovan told her to sell her house first, and if the funds were insufficient, he would consider assisting. That night, Paisley's oxygen mask was removed, leading to her death. Lori suspected Donovan’s involvement but was too frightened to confront him. If Donovan could go so far as to kill Paisley to avoid paying for her medical expenses, what else might he be capable of?"
"Did the police find any evidence linking Donovan to the crime?" Chloe asked.
She thought Donovan would never do something as blatant as that. While his cunning nature made the idea of him manipulating events plausible, the direct removal of an oxygen mask seemed out of character. Nonetheless, pitting two women against each other did fit his pattern.
Chloe felt scared.
"They're still investigating. The truth is going to come out sooner or later anyway," Pamela said.
