The next day, Maya took the bus to Pearl Peak City and first went to Kenneth's house.
Francis was very happy to see Maya.
He also said to Donovan, "Dad, can our whole family stay in Pearl Peak City from now on?"
"We'll see," Donovan said, lounging on the sofa in a very relaxed manner.
He looked Maya up and down. She looked very much like someone who had read a lot of books, which she indeed had. The wrinkles at the corners of her eyes seemed to carry a perpetual smile.
"Mr. Blake, do you think Jeffery asked me to come just to meet his girlfriend? Why is he being so proactive this time?" Maya was so excited that she was trembling all over.
"Did he ask you out for dinner? You should hurry up. It's getting late," Donovan said, glancing at his watch.
He had long known this day would come, that Chloe and Jeffery's dreams would eventually shatter. So, although he had been unhappy, he had managed to keep his composure.
"Okay." Maya finally calmed down and went out.
Jeffery didn't choose a faraway place, just a restaurant near the school.
He was a student, and the prices here suited him.
"Chloe, my mom used to work as an editor at a newspaper, but she quit and went to help at Mr. Blake's house. You know, Donovan, whom you've met," Jeffery had already been waiting at the restaurant with Chloe and was eager to introduce Maya to her.

"Maya, long time no see," Chloe stood up and said to Maya.
Since Chloe and Donovan's divorce, Maya had always called Chloe by her name, but now, she greeted her, "Mrs. Blake, is that you?"
Jeffery was stunned. 'Mrs. Blake?'
"Yes, Maya, long time no see. Over the past three years, it's you who took care of Francis, and he grew up so healthy. The person I should thank the most is you," Chloe said.
This statement shocked Jeffery. 'Francis is Chloe's child?'
"Actually, I don't count for much. It's all thanks to Mr. Blake. He takes great care of Francis. He was so good to you back then. Why did you leave for three years and leave not a single word. Do you know how heartbroken and disappointed Mr. Blake was? He was very sad that the person he deeply loved left him without a trace," Maya said.
"Deeply loved?" Chloe lowered her head, repeating the words from Maya's mouth.
She really wanted to ask about Janet's child, but Maya would surely tell Donovan, so she didn't ask.
"You didn't know?" Maya asked.
Chloe kept her head down, not saying a word.
At this moment, Maya's heart was conflicted. It was obvious that Jeffery had fallen for Chloe, but clearly, they couldn't be together, so no one brought up the "Jeffery’s girlfriend" topic.
"The past is behind us," Chloe said after the waiter served the dishes. "I'm doing well now. I'm teaching at Pearl Peak City University, and I'm also an intern director at the Stellar Corp. Oh, by the way, I also teach Jeffery. He's also interning at the Stellar Corp. I mentor him; he's very talented and has a bright future."
After saying this, Chloe patted Jeffery's shoulder like an elder.
