Chapter 558 Is it because of Cynthia?
The next day, Donovan returned to Maple Valley because Chloe was worried about Francis being home alone.
Chloe had classes on Wednesday.
While Chloe was teaching, Larry from the administration office asked her to step out for a moment.
"Ms. Baker, the transfer order from Hudson University is ready for your signature. Please sign it, and I'll send it over to them. I'm handling the rest of the paperwork." Larry said, pulling out a few sheets of paper.
Chloe was stunned. "What transfer order?"
"It's about you joining Hudson University as a professor. Your title has been approved, and you hit the ground running." Larry explained kindly.
"I never intended to go to Hudson University." Chloe said, surprised, thinking, 'I really like Pearl Peak University, so why will I transfer to Hudson University?'
"I'm not in the loop on everything, but I'm here to make sure all the paperwork is done for you. Ms. Baker, you can leave Pearl Peak University tomorrow and report to Hudson University." Larry said.
'Does this mean there is no place for me at Pearl Peak University anymore? Is this Donovan's doing?' Chloe wondered.
"Ms. Baker, hurry up. Aren't you happy to be transferred back home?" Larry said with a big smile, looking genuinely happy for Chloe.
Although she was confused and even felt a bit played, Chloe reluctantly signed the papers. Despite being somewhat distracted, Chloe still managed to finish her lecture seriously.
After class, Chloe sent Donovan a message: [How did I get transferred from Pearl Peak University to Hudson University? Why so fast? Doesn't this kind of transfer usually take at least six months?]
Donovan: [I donated a building to Hudson University]
Chloe was speechless, realizing money did make the world go round. With the building donation, Chloe's credentials were enough for an immediate transfer to Hudson University. But Chloe hadn't finished her projects here, and she still had graduate students to supervise.
Larry sent Chloe a message on WhatsApp, urging her to pack up and report to Hudson University the next day.
'Should I thank Donovan for arranging everything so neatly?' Chloe thought.
Chloe: [What about my stuff?]
Donovan: [Don't worry, someone will pack for you.]
So Donovan meant that Chloe should just leave by herself.
But Chloe was quite reluctant to leave Pearl Peak University; it was her first job after earning her PhD.
Because the news of Chloe's transfer to Hudson University was so sudden, most people at the school didn't know yet. The first to find out were William and Isabel, her graduate students.
William and Isabel made a special trip to Chloe's house.
"Ms. Baker, you didn't even tell us you were leaving. We don't even know who we'll be assigned to now." Isabel said, surprised and a bit angry.
"Does it matter who you're assigned to?" Chloe was also surprised, but she had to put on a brave face to comfort them.
"It's not the same. The other professors in our department are much older; which makes it hard to find common ground." Isabel said.
Chloe patted Isabel on the shoulder. "I'm really sorry."
At this point, Isabel whispered, "Ms. Baker, is your sudden transfer related to Prof. Cynthia? We heard that Prof. Cynthia went to your office building to jump off. Anyone would be upset by such an incident. Luckily, Mr. Blake has the connections to get you transferred."
Chloe remained silent.
