Chapter 571 Aren't You Getting Engaged?
Chloe held the phone in her hand and she thought, 'What did Donovan just say?'
There was a static noise in the earphones, and neither of them spoke.
"Donovan, did I do something wrong? You can tell me," Chloe asked, her voice trembling.
"Don't you know? Whose phone is this?" Donovan asked again, "Whose house are you in?"
"I'm at Neil's house. I live with my mom. My phone lost signal; it may be broken. I was going to send you a WhatsApp message, but..." Chloe couldn't finish her sentence when the other end ended the call suddenly.
Donovan and Cynthia got married? How was that possible?
Chloe thought Donovan was lying to her; he was definitely trying to trick her into coming home.
It wasn't until the phone became hot against her ear that Chloe took it down.
When Chloe was making the call, Derek had been standing there watching.
Observing Chloe holding the phone, looking dazed as if it had burned her, Derek approached and gently took the phone from her hand.
Derek asked, "What happened?"
Chloe was too shocked to react.
"Donovan said he got married to someone else," Chloe laughed, "He must be lying to me, right?"
"Married? So quickly?" Derek frowned slightly.
"Yeah, who gets married that fast? He was so good to me before. He must be lying to me. I..." Chloe wanted to say she wanted to stay a few more days in Emerald Isle, but now she really wanted to go back because she knew Donovan wouldn't lie about something like getting married just to trick her into coming back. "Can you look after things here for me, and then..."
As Chloe spoke, she shed tears of grievance.
What mattered was that he got married. But why did Donovan suddenly get married?
"Don't cry. Why are you always crying?" Derek wiped Chloe's tears.
Although Derek was a year younger than Chloe, probably because he was a psychologist, Chloe felt Derek was mature for his age and trusted him deeply.

"Derek, I think I should go back to Aurora Isle. Donovan might be upset," Chloe said uneasily.
Derek looked at Chloe deeply and then said, "Alright, call me anytime if you need anything. I'll book your ticket."
Chloe said, "Thank you."
Chloe didn't sleep well that night. She arrived in Maple Valley the next evening, past ten o'clock. After getting off the plane, she went straight to Donovan's house.
As soon as she got off the plane, her phone regained signal. Chloe had thought her phone was broken and that she would need to buy a new one, but she planned to go home first.
Donovan was sitting on the couch smoking, and Francis was already asleep.
Seeing Chloe holding her phone, Donovan asked, "Your phone got its signal back?"
Chloe explained, "Yeah, I don't know why. It had no signal the whole time I was in Emerald Isle. Maybe it was international roaming, with weak signal."
Donovan felt she was making excuses!
"Donovan, can I ask why?" Chloe asked, her face pale, "Did you really get married?"
Donovan asked sarcastically, "Where's your mom? Since you rescued her, where is she? Or did you leave her with someone?"
"I left her with Neil," Chloe said very uneasily.
Donovan snorted. "Aren't you getting engaged?"
