Chapter 127 Not Going to Explain?
"Wait, I think this might just be a misunderstanding. Xavier doesn't seem like the type to have a girlfriend," Grace said, a bit sheepishly.
"That's not necessarily true. There are plenty of people who look decent on the outside but are dirty on the inside," Angela looked down on every man in the world.
If Angela discovered that Xavier's girlfriend, who was Grace went on a blind date, she would find the situation remarkably coincidental.
Angela was puzzled, "But what's so special about today? Is it a good day for blind dates? Why is everyone choosing today?"
"Angela, I'm getting off work and heading home, so I can't talk right now." Grace didn't want to continue this topic. She needed to find Victor and get to the bottom of how these rumors started.
"Alright, be careful on your way home."
"Bye!"
Grace quickly hung up the phone, organized the files in front of her, and grabbed her car keys.
She headed to the bar, where Victor had sent the address.
She arrived quickly and, after explaining her identity at the front desk, was led to a private room.
Inside the room were only three people, Xavier and his two friends, Victor and Isaac.
Isaac didn't hang out with Xavier often; he was usually swamped with family matters. But hearing there was news, Isaac had pushed some things aside to come.
"So who exactly is Xavier's girlfriend? How come you all know, but I don't?" Isaac asked, puzzled.
Victor teased, "Why don't you ask him yourself?"
Isaac didn't dare ask Xavier, and knowing Xavier's personality, he wouldn't say anything anyway.
"Let's drink," Victor poured everyone a drink, mixing several types of alcohol together.
This mix was not only strong but also easy to get drunk on.
"Drink up, tonight we won't leave until we're drunk." Under Victor's persuasion, Xavier did drink quite a bit, but he wasn't drunk yet.
At that moment, there was a knock on the door, walking in a waiter. "Mr. Hastings, your guest has arrived."
Isaac found it odd. "Another guest?"
Just then, Grace walked in. Seeing there were others in the room, including Xavier, she was momentarily surprised.
"Mr. Hastings? Mr. Montgomery?" She didn't recognize the third person.
Grace had thought Victor called her over just to explain things, not expecting Xavier to be there too.
Thinking about the rumors of being Xavier's woman, Grace's face instantly blushed, as she hesitated to step in.
"Come on in!" Victor enthusiastically pulled Grace over, clearly enjoying the drama.
Victor pushed Grace next to Xavier and poured her a drink as well.
Grace declined, "Sorry, Mr. Hastings, I drove here, so I can't drink."
"You drove here?" Victor laughed loudly. "Perfect timing then. Xavier has had quite a bit to drink too. How about you take him home later?"
Grace was silent; she hadn't figured out how to face Xavier yet.
Even though Grace hadn't done anything to betray Xavier, the rumors about her going on a blind date made her feel like she had done something morally wrong.
"We've had enough for tonight. Isaac, it's time go back home." Victor patted Isaac on the shoulder and led him out.
"Mr. Hastings!" Grace called out.
If they left, it would just be her and Xavier, which was awkward.
"If you want answers, go ask Xavier," Victor said as he dragged Isaac out.
Grace remained silent.
Isaac, being pulled out by Victor, asked in confusion, "That woman looks kind of familiar."
"Yep, she's the protagonist."
Isaac suddenly understood. "So she's Xavier's girlfriend!"
In the private room, Grace didn't know whether to sit or stand, nervously clutching her clothes. It was extremely awkward.
Xavier, on the other hand, poured himself a drink and sipped it slowly.
He glanced at Grace, clearly noticing her discomfort.
Xavier didn't put down his glass but swirled it in his hand, the light reflecting off the glass in a blinding way.
"Grace, don't you have anything to say?" Xavier uttered.
Grace had a lot to say but didn't know where to start. She asked, "When did you leave the resort?"
Xavier's deep black eyes just stared at Grace without answering.
Grace thought, 'Did I say something wrong?'
She couldn't read his thoughts. She thought for a moment and continued, "Mr. Hastings asked me to come. I didn't know you'd be here."
Then Grace fell silent, not knowing what else to say.
She thought about today's events and felt there was no need to explain to Xavier. After all, Xavier wasn't anyone special to her.
He wouldn't pull the elder card to question her, would he?
"Is that all?" Xavier was not satisfied with the answer.
"What else do you want to hear?"
Seeing Grace so self-righteous and not the least bit guilty, Xavier thought of the video footage. He wondered, 'Does she really want to get married quickly?'
Xavier directly said, "You went on a blind date today."
It wasn't a question; it was a statement.
"Mr. Hastings told you, didn't he?" Grace thought it was just a coincidence and that Victor wouldn't have told Xavier.
She didn't expect it to blow up like this. Probably everyone in Skigeth knew by now.
Xavier kept saying, "Aren't you going to explain?"
Grace deliberately said, "There's nothing to explain. It's exactly as Mr. Hastings saw."
Xavier's eyes suddenly darkened. What had been a calm before the storm now contained a brewing tempest. He reminded in a cold voice, "Don't forget your..."
"I know, you don't have to remind me every time. 'Don't forget your status, you're Ryan's fiancée.'" Grace could recite this line backward.
Now he remembered she was Ryan's fiancée. Why didn't he think of that when he was in her bed?
"No one said Ryan's fiancée can't go on a blind date. If I were your fiancée, I'd go on blind dates too," Grace countered.
Grace hadn't finished speaking when she met Xavier's terrifying gaze and quickly shut up, assuming that Xavier really couldn't take a joke.
"Just kidding, you didn't take it seriously, did you? This is just a misunderstanding. The one who was supposed to go on the blind date was Angela. Her family forced her to go. The guy was late, and after waiting a long time, Angela went to the restroom. He showed up just then. Then he mistook me for Angela. No matter how I explained, he wouldn't listen. Later, somehow Mr. Hastings saw it. Did he message you? But I swear I don't know why everyone knows about this. It wasn't me who spread it; I just found out myself." Grace spoke very sincerely, afraid Xavier might misunderstand.
Xavier raised his hand, bringing the glass to his lips, hiding the slight smile that had formed.
