Chapter 508 Jared Meets Grace
"Ms. Lewis, you..." Jared lowered his head and let out a small laugh. His eyes filled with bitterness, and he even appeared to hold back tears."You look so much like someone I used to know."
Grace said, "You mean Elizabeth, right?"
"Yes."
"Come in and let's talk."
Grace invited Jared into her studio. Jared finally found an opportunity and naturally wouldn't refuse.
Jared looked around Grace's studio, following her, and then said, "This studio, you opened it yourself, right? Your personality is so much like your mother's. You both never bow to fate and have strong abilities on your own."
When they reached the reception room, Grace asked someone to make coffee. Jared was still looking at her, seemingly reminiscing about something.
"I didn't expect that your mother was pregnant at the time and had you. All these years, I've been looking for her, but she disappeared without a trace. For her, I haven't married to this day."
"Grace, can I call you that? I'm really so happy, I don't know how to describe it. Finding you makes me really happy."
As he spoke, Jared's tears fell.
His acting was truly superb, even wiping his tears, looking genuinely heartbroken.
Grace didn't know what to say for a moment. She didn't know if Jared was really her father.
"Why are you happy to find me?"
Jared said, "You might not know, but your mother and I once had a relationship. We grew up together and fell in love. Later, we had some conflicts, and your mother left. I..."
Jared's hands were trembling, "Grace, you might be my daughter."
Although Grace was mentally prepared and had heard Steven say it, hearing Jared say it herself still made her heart tremble.
Did Elizabeth change her name because of Jared?
Is Jared really her biological father?
Her heart felt a pang of bitterness, and she couldn't help but think of Elizabeth. When she left with her to Skigeth, what kind of determination did Elizabeth have, and what had happened?
Grace bit her lip and spoke after a while, "I'm sorry, I don't think I am."
A glimmer of light flashed in Jared's eyes. Could it be that Grace knew something?
"Grace, what do you mean by that?"
Grace spoke calmly, "Mr. Peterson, although I don't know what past you had with my mother, I don't think you are my father. I only have my mother, I'm sorry."
"Grace, are you refusing to acknowledge me?" Jared's eyes were filled with sorrow.
"Let's not talk about whether I'm your daughter or not. What exactly happened between you and my mother back then?"
Jared sighed, "It's a long story. Your mother and I were in love, but as you know, misunderstandings and conflicts are inevitable between people. Your mother misunderstood that I had something with another woman, and she broke up with me in sadness. If you think about it, you might be my daughter."
Grace's identity was still unknown, and those people were far away in Aetheria, so Jared decided to seize the opportunity himself.
Grace didn't know if what Jared said was true or false. She felt that Elizabeth wasn't the impulsive type to hide away and change her name after a breakup.
The misunderstanding between her and Xavier didn't escalate to this extent, and she didn't take the child and run away.
Elizabeth's actions made Grace feel like she was hiding from something.
"Can you tell me more specifically about what happened between you and my mother?" Grace remained rational and didn't let emotions cloud her judgment.
Moreover, she didn't feel there was anything worth acknowledging about Jared. If Elizabeth wanted her to acknowledge him, she wouldn't have married Zach with her.
Jared began to talk endlessly, from their childhood together to how they fell in love later.
Grace listened without saying anything.
When Jared finished, he said, "After your mother left, I searched frantically for her for over twenty years, never stopping. I searched the world and found many people who looked like your mother, but none of them were her."
"Grace, I truly loved her. I didn't know she left me such a big surprise. If I had known, I would have brought you back sooner and not let you suffer all these years. Grace, it's my fault. Can you forgive me?"
Jared was so deeply emotional, and his words were beautifully spoken.
Anyone else might have softened by now.
But Grace had seen too much and knew that men were the least trustworthy at this moment.
She wasn't familiar with Jared and didn't know what kind of person he was. The events of the past were too long ago, and even the Coleman family didn't know. She couldn't tell if Jared's words were true or false.
What if Jared was lying to her?
What if Jared approached her with some ulterior motive?
"I'm sorry, Mr. Peterson. I think you might be too emotional. Maybe we should talk another time."
Jared put his hand over his eyes, "I am indeed a bit emotional, but it's because I'm too excited. I've imagined reuniting with Elizabeth countless times, but I didn't expect that Elizabeth is gone. Grace, I know you can't accept these facts right now, but everything I said is true."
"You can take your time to think about it. I'll wait for you to acknowledge me. I won't disturb you for now. Can I leave you my contact information?"
Grace took a business card from a nearby box, "This is my card."
Grace's number was her work number. She also had a private number, which she used when she thought Xavier didn't know her identity and planned to deceive him.
Her work number was busy, with many messages, but few people knew her private number. Besides Xavier, only the Coleman family knew it.
She wasn't familiar enough with Jared to give him that number.
And she needed to ask Steven if he knew anything about Jared.
Jared didn't insist, "Alright, can I invite you to dinner sometime?"
Grace said, "I'm very busy lately, so I don't have time. Mr. Peterson, you should go about your business."
Jared sighed, "Alright, I'll leave then, Grace."
Grace kept a calm face, looking very composed.
After Jared turned around, he immediately changed his expression. Grace was indeed Elizabeth's daughter, with a personality just like hers, not easy to fool.
