Chapter 574 The Most Worrisome Thing Still Happened
Dorian's head pounded with a sudden, inexplicable pain, like something was trying to take over his mind.
It hurt so much!
But his mind was a blank slate; he had no memory of this face at all!
Dorian's face turned pale. He felt like he had seen her before. "I saw her at the airport. Who is she?"
He felt like he had seen this face at the airport. Why did it seem so familiar? What was that fleeting, elusive thing in his mind?
"Her name is Grace. Her mother was Elizabeth. You don't remember anything?"
Dorian shook his head. He had never heard of these names.
Who was Elizabeth?
Who could she be?
Just then, Grace knocked on the door. "Xavier."
Grace hesitated to enter, afraid of triggering Dorian again. What if he fainted again?
"Robert called. He seems to know about this. He's on his way here with Her Royal Highness Jane York, and he's bringing his private doctor."
"Okay." Xavier nodded, acknowledging the information.
Xavier then asked, "Your Majesty Dorian Astor, I know you are the King of Aetheria, a man of great importance, but think carefully. Have you really never seen this face or heard these names, or are you hiding something?"
"I can tell you clearly, Elizabeth has been dead for nearly twenty years."
Dorian's pupils contracted. Who was this Elizabeth?
Why did his heart ache so intensely, almost to the point of suffocation, upon learning she had been dead for nearly twenty years?
But he didn't know this person at all.
Xavier observed Dorian's reaction. It was a strange feeling, as if he truly didn't know this person.
Xavier stood up and left the room.
"How did it go? Did you talk to His Majesty Dorian Astor? Does he know me? Or my mother?"
Xavier shook his head. "He doesn't know you."
Not knowing was expected; Dorian was a king, after all.
Grace actually thought Dorian was quite nice. Despite being a king, he didn't have that high-and-mighty attitude or a sense of distance. Instead, he felt rather approachable.
It was a subtle feeling, one Grace couldn't quite describe.
In the hospital room, Dorian clutched his chest and collapsed. His head hurt, his heart hurt, even breathing was painful.
He didn't understand why this was happening. He took out his phone and searched for Elizabeth's name, but found nothing about her online.
Dorian then searched for Grace. There was a bit more information about her—how she founded a large company and was the future mistress of the DG Group, among other things.
There were very few photos of Grace online because Xavier had most of them removed to protect her. He didn't want too much attention on Grace's appearance or any negative news.
Only a few unimportant mentions remained.
So when Dorian searched, he didn't find much. But just reading about Grace, seeing the blessings online, he spent hours scrolling without realizing it.
And Dorian didn't notice the smile on his face when he saw how happy Grace seemed.
The news of Grace meeting Dorian and Dorian fainting quickly reached Jane.
Jane almost fainted from anxiety. Her worst fear had come true.
Dorian must have seen Grace's face. What if he found it incredibly familiar? What if he...
Jane was out of sorts the entire flight.
Robert thought Jane was just overly worried about Dorian.
Robert tried to comfort her, "Jane, it's okay. Dorian's always been healthy. He probably just fainted from exhaustion. And with Grace there, she's very reliable. Everything will be fine."
Mentioning Grace made Jane's face turn pale.
Grace was her biggest worry!
The last time Dorian fainted, it was because he saw Grace. And now, it was Grace again.
Jane feared that seeing Grace's face might trigger Dorian's memories of Elizabeth.
Fortunately, Robert brought their private doctor, Davi, with them to Vesperia.
Davi had been with Dorian for years and was the one who had sealed Dorian's memories.
Using drugs, hypnosis, and psychological suggestions, they forcibly erased his memories.
This method wasn't foolproof, so Davi had stayed by Dorian's side, continuously reinforcing the hypnosis and suggestions to prevent him from remembering Elizabeth.
Davi had said that even with such memory erasure, it wasn't absolute. But as long as Dorian didn't see the most important person from his past, he shouldn't remember.
Any mental stimulation could potentially restore the forgotten memories.
That's why Jane was terrified when she saw Grace's face. She feared that if Dorian saw Grace, he would remember Elizabeth and regain his memories.
Dorian fainting upon seeing Grace was already a bad sign.
Jane was in turmoil until they landed, her face still pale.
Dorian was still on his phone, reading about Grace.
He read about Grace's time in Skigeth, her childhood engagement, and her dealings with Ryan and Kelly.
The drama had been widely publicized—how the Montgomery family forced a marriage, and how Grace fought back. It was all very clear. Even Dorian felt outraged; the Montgomery family was simply too much!
Forcing a woman into marriage, and Ryan was a scumbag with numerous women and illegitimate children!
But then there was a twist—the Montgomery Group's big scandal, Ryan's son wasn't his, and his wife had a child with his father?
Such a family! Thank goodness Grace didn't marry into it, or it would have ruined a good woman.
Dorian saw that Grace and Xavier seemed to be doing well. If Xavier ever wronged Grace, even he would want to step in and defend her.
Dorian also read about Grace's tough life with the Lewis family—her father and his two illegitimate daughters constantly bullying her.
Though he hadn't met Grace much, he already felt a deep sympathy for her.
Grace was so young, yet she had endured so much.
If her mother were still alive, how heartbroken she would be.
