Chapter 455 A Major Car Accident Occurs

Grace went to a nearby restaurant and had a bowl of pasta before taking a cab to her company.

"Are you visiting a relative at the hospital?" The driver seemed cheerful.

Grace replied, "No, I'm going for a check-up myself."

"Your boyfriend didn't come with you?"

Grace wondered if the driver was a good person. Nowadays, many people with kind faces have bad intentions.

She said, "He had something to do and left early. He asked me to call him once I arrived safely."

"You young people are so lucky. When I was your age, I already had kids." The driver looked particularly happy when he mentioned this.

Grace noticed a photo hanging in the front.

"Is that your wife?"

The driver nodded at the photo. "Yes, we've known each other since we were kids. I liked her from a young age but never dared to confess, wasting a lot of time. Later, an accident happened, and she left me many years ago. Sometimes, I think if I had confessed earlier, we could have spent more time together."

"So, if you young people have something to say or any misunderstandings, make sure to talk it out face-to-face. Sometimes, missing the chance means a lifetime of regret."

Grace pressed her lips together, her thoughts drifting away.

Until the radio in the taxi pulled her back: "Breaking news: a major car accident occurred on Airport Road involving multiple vehicles. A Maybach driver, suspected of speeding due to fatigue, died on the spot. The scene is tragic."

The broadcast continued with details, but Grace's heart tightened.

Airport Road, Maybach?

When Xavier left, he was driving a Maybach, and he was driving himself!

Suspected fatigue driving? Xavier hadn't rested well for days.

And Xavier's flight was soon. He might have sped up to make it in time.

Grace quickly picked up her phone and called Xavier.

The call went through, but no one answered.

Why isn't he answering?

Grace's heart was in turmoil, her eyes welling up.

It can't be Xavier. It mustn't be Xavier.

It felt like a stone had sunk to the bottom of the sea, dragging Grace's heart down with it.

"Sir, to the airport!"

"What's wrong? The radio just said there was a major accident on the way to the airport. It'll definitely be jammed. Are you catching a flight?"

"Please, sir, my boyfriend is on his way to the airport, and he's not answering his phone. I'm worried."

Hearing this, the driver quickly turned around and sped off. "Don't worry, I'll get you there as fast as I can. Your boyfriend will be fine."

Grace clutched her phone tightly, continuously calling Xavier, but still no answer.

She quickly called Mason, who answered promptly.

"Ms. Lewis."

"Mason, it's me. Can you reach Xavier? I can't get through to him. There's been an accident near the airport, and I'm worried..."

"Ms. Lewis, don't worry. I'll check immediately and call you back if I find anything."

Mason hung up quickly, leaving Grace feeling helpless.

If something really happened to Xavier...

Grace couldn't bear the thought. If only he hadn't rushed to the airport, if only he hadn't come with her for the check-up, or if she had agreed to have dinner with him when he suggested changing his flight, maybe he wouldn't have been in such a hurry, and this wouldn't have happened.

The scene was chaotic, and there were no photos or videos online yet.

So it might not be Xavier. It mustn't be Xavier!

Grace kept telling herself this, but her heart was in a panic. Her hands were clenched tightly, her fingertips turning white.

She didn't want anything to happen to Xavier.

Aren't bad people supposed to live longer? Xavier, being such a bad person, should live a long life, right?

Seeing Grace so anxious, the driver said, "Don't worry, miss. Your boyfriend will be fine."

Grace hoped so, but her heart was still in turmoil.

They had just parted ways. She could have called him a cab. He was so tired.

He had told her to wait for him to come back.

Soon, videos of the scene appeared online. Several cars had collided, and the Maybach had sped and overtaken, crashing into a large truck ahead. The truck was then hit by other cars that couldn't stop in time, causing a chain reaction.

The scene was already cordoned off, and it wasn't very good.

Sure enough, the highway was starting to jam. The driver was frustrated. "Miss, who knows how long this will take."

"Sir, please open the door." Grace handed the driver a hundred-dollar bill and got out of the car.

The traffic was backed up for a long stretch and wouldn't clear anytime soon.

Grace walked towards the scene. It shouldn't be too far now.

She kept calling Xavier, unable to relax until he answered.

Grace weaved through the traffic, running towards the accident site. After about ten minutes, she finally saw the scene.

It was cordoned off, with ambulances and fire trucks already there.

Grace looked at the black Maybach, now unrecognizable. She couldn't be sure if it were Xavier's car.

But the driver inside was likely in grave danger.

Recalling the broadcast saying the driver died on the spot, Grace's face turned pale.

"Excuse me, can I go in? My friend might be in there."

"Sorry, miss, it's dangerous inside. You can't go in."

"Can you tell me where the Maybach's owner is? I want to see him."

"You can check the hospital for other injured people. As for the owner, we don't know if he was rescued. You can see the car's condition. I heard something pierced his heart. It's very serious."

Tears streamed down Grace's face, her heart aching. "Can I just take a look? Just one look."

"No, miss."

"Would you not be able to contact his family? With such a serious accident, you should notify the family immediately. Haven't you contacted them? Can I see his phone?"
