Chapter 496 Differential Treatment
Xavier knew that whatever he said now wouldn't matter, so he chose to remain silent.
Grace shouted, "Grandpa!"
She also knew that Chase meant well, but she believed in her own choice.
Chase snorted coldly and then said, "We're having dinner. If you haven't eaten, come join us."
Grace was surprised. Chase actually invited Xavier to dinner?
Based on her understanding of Chase, there had to be a catch!
Grace whispered in Xavier's ear, "My grandpa is like a child. Inviting you to dinner can't be that simple, and Sterling is inside. Maybe next time?"
"It's okay."
Xavier was already happy that Chase invited him to dinner. No matter what Chase had in mind, he would endure it.
Seeing how close Grace and Xavier were, Chase said irritably, "What are you two whispering about? Don't want to join us?"
"No, we do," Xavier replied promptly, afraid that Chase might withdraw the invitation.
Sterling was inside, and Xavier saw him as soon as he entered.
Xavier wanted to sit next to Grace, but Chase stopped him, "Where are you going? Sit here!"
Chase picked a seat for Xavier that was the farthest from Grace, with a few seats in between.
Grace remained silent.
Chase was cold and indifferent to Xavier, not even wanting to look at him, but he was very kind to Sterling.
"Sterling, try this."
"Thank you," Sterling said with a smirk, looking provocatively at Xavier.
Sterling and Xavier had never had a meal together before. This was the first time, considering they were arch-enemies. It was a miracle they hadn't started a fight.
Sterling picked up his utensils, "You should eat too. This tastes really good."
"Sterling is so considerate," Chase praised.
Sterling responded, "Indeed. If you're looking for a husband, find someone like me. Don't go for those cold and rigid types; life would be miserable."
Sterling's words were clearly aimed at Xavier, who didn't dare to say a word in front of Chase.
Chase raised his glass, "Sterling and I hit it off right away. Cheers."
Feeling helpless, Gracesecretly messaged Xavier, "Grandpa is doing this on purpose. He's still mad at you."
Xavier quickly typed back, "I know."
He didn't care how Chase treated him. Having Grace was enough.
Throughout the meal, Chase ignored Xavier, who barely ate. Chase spent the entire time talking to Sterling, showing his satisfaction with him.
Sterling played along perfectly. Opportunities to mock Xavier and leave him speechless were rare, and he intended to make the most of it.
After the meal, Chase said, "Sterling, you should come over for dinner more often."
"Sure, I'll definitely come often," Sterling emphasized the word "often."
Xavier remained silent.
It wasn't over yet. Sterling and Scott planned to pay the bill, only to be told it had already been settled.
Xavier, though he said nothing, had quietly taken care of everything.
Scott had heard about Grace and Xavier. He actually thought Xavier might not be that bad.
After the meal, Grace and Xavier walked out last.
"I'm sorry, my grandpa is still angry."
Xavier took the opportunity to squeeze Grace's hand and said, "Your grandpa didn't do anything wrong. You don't need to apologize. I'm not angry. One day, your grandpa will like me too."
Grace admired Xavier's courage. Given how capable Xavier was, she believed that one day, Chase would come to like him too.
After a few words, they reached the door. Chase pulled Grace to go home, and Grace waved to Xavier before they parted ways.
In the car, Grace recounted her relationship with Xavier, "Grandpa, I believe in him. He's not that kind of person. I like him, so I want to give him another chance, and also give myself a chance. I don't know what the future holds, but if he's sincere, I'll be with him. Don't worry, if he shows any signs of being untrustworthy, I'll leave him immediately."
Chase's eyes reddened, and he wiped away tears without saying a word.
Seeing him like this, Grace felt a pang of heartache.
"Grandpa, can you trust him just once?"
Chase said, "Grace, I don't want to hurt you under the guise of doing what's best for you. But seeing you like this reminds me of Elizabeth."
"I don't even know who hurt Elizabeth, making her come back alone and pregnant. She left alone and pregnant again, and for so many years, there was no news, and she even lost her life."
"I don't want you to follow in your mother's footsteps. I want you to be safe and sound."
Hearing this, Grace's eyes reddened too. She hugged him, "I know, I've always known."
Elizabeth's story was a hurdle Chase couldn't get over.
However, similar things were happening to Grace. However, Grace believed she was different from Elizabeth. She thought she and Xavier would always be together.
Chase still couldn't accept Xavier. To him, it was like accepting the man who had hurt Elizabeth. He couldn't do it.
Grace didn't force Chase. She just wanted to tell him that she and Xavier were serious.
She wanted to give it one last try. If it were all a lie, then she and Xavier would be over for good.
Jared had been busy lately, so he only found out a few days later that Chase had left Aetheria.
Moreover, upon investigation, he discovered that Chase had gone to Skigeth?
Chase had gone to Skigeth before the new year, supposedly for a vacation. But now, not long after, he went to Skigeth again. It didn't seem like just a vacation.
Jared hadn't heard anything about the Coleman family looking for Elizabeth's child recently, and Steven had been handling work in Aetheria. It all seemed suspicious.
Could it be that the Coleman family had already found Elizabeth's child?
If it was in Skigeth, Jared's mind instinctively flashed to a face. That face wasn't particularly beautiful, but the eyes were very much like Elizabeth's. That was Grace.
Could Grace really be Elizabeth's child?
Jared felt a strange sensation. Just thinking about Elizabeth's face made his heart race. She was truly beautiful.
He had liked Elizabeth for so many years, but Elizabeth never had eyes for him. She only wanted that man.
A look of malice flashed in his eyes. No, he had to go to Skigeth again!
