Chapter 382 I Don't Want This Child
Angela was freaking out at the hospital.
The doctor came in and said, "No big deal. She's pregnant, so she needs to take it easy and rest."
"Got it, I'll make sure she does. Wait, what? Pregnant?" Angela was floored that Grace was expecting!
When Grace woke up, the strong smell of disinfectant hit her.
Angela was standing there, arms crossed, looking scared. "Grace, you're finally awake!"
"I..." Grace tried to sit up, and Angela helped her, telling her to be careful.
Angela, all excited, said, "Take it easy. You're different now. Do you really need to push yourself so hard? You fainted! The doctor told me you're pregnant, Grace. You're gonna be a mom!"
Grace didn't say anything.
Angela watched her face and asked, "What's wrong? Are you too shocked to react?"
"I was stunned, too, when I heard," Angela continued, still buzzing with excitement. "Grace, you're so young! A mom! We have to tell Mr. Montgomery! He'll be so happy! I'm going to be a godmother! What's wrong? Are you scared?"
"Angela, I... I'm sorry," Grace whimpered.
"Sorry for what? Why are you apologizing to me?" Angela was confused.
"You might not be able to be the godmother. I don't want this child," Grace said.
"Why? Did you already know? From your last checkup?" Angela asked.
Grace nodded, "I found out last time. I wanted to tell Xavier first, then you. But now…now I know love is a lie. Only friends are real."
"Did you tell him? What did he say? He doesn't want the baby? And you, knowing you're pregnant, still overworked yourself. You need to take care of your body, or you'll suffer if the baby acts up," Angela said.
Grace looked at her, then suddenly hugged Angela. She tried to speak in the calmest tone. "I broke up with him. We won't have any more contact."
"What?" Angela was stunned. "How could this happen?"
"Did Xavier hurt you? I'll get him! How dare he hurt my friend! I'll kill him!" Angela's tone was agitated.
Grace held Angela back and said, "No. It's…we were never meant to be. I was…foolish"
"Grace! Does he know you're pregnant?" Angela inquired.
Grace shook her head. Angela said with anger, "What are you going to do? Not tell him?"
"We're separated. Why should I tell him? This baby…it has nothing to do with him. I might not even keep it," Grace sobbed.
"Did he give you anything? Any kind of settlement?" Angela asked.
Grace responded, "We weren't married, so there's no need for financial compensation. That would make me seem like his kept woman. I don't want his money. Let's just say it was fun while it lasted. He's so handsome, I didn't lose out."
Grace found a convincing excuse for herself, but only she knew how much it hurt.
"If it weren't for the baby…But you are pregnant. Do you know how painful an abortion is and how much it harms a woman?" Angela looked at Grace with pity.
She thought Xavier would be a good person, but she was wrong. Xavier was worse than Omari!
If she had known, she would've backed Omari instead of Xavier!
"Cry if you need to," Angela said, patting Grace's back.
"I don't want to cry. I'm fine, Angela. Don't worry about me. I'm not the type to do something stupid." Grace's eyes were red, but she had already cried enough.
She wasn't going to shed another tear for Xavier. She'd turn all this into motivation to live better!
She didn't believe Evelyn was a murderer, and she had to find out the truth. She had to let Xavier know Evelyn didn't kill his mother.
Angela made sure Grace rested at home. She stayed by Grace's side, watching her sleep.
Grace couldn't work even if she wanted to, so she had to obey.
Even though she hadn't rested well these past two days, Grace couldn't sleep much.
She planned to find Patrick tomorrow to ask about Evelyn and Xavier's mother. She felt Patrick knew a lot.
Then, she would get the rest of Evelyn's ashes from Kelly.
These past two days, Xavier hadn't slept much either. Joseph had been buried, and many people attended the funeral, showing how many connections Joseph had in his life.
Colin also came. He approached Xavier and asked, "I heard rumors that you're marrying Stephanie. Xavier, what's going on? What about Grace?"
Xavier's pupils dilated. Colin had hit his sore spot.
Stephanie, dressed very plainly today, walked up to Xavier. "Xavier, you should tell them about us." She then turned to Colin, and said, "Xavier and Grace have broken up, and Xavier has agreed to marry me."
Colin was shocked, giving an incredulous glance at Xavier. "Xavier, is this true?"
Colin found it hard to believe; Xavier couldn't possibly have any feelings for Stephanie. If he had wanted to marry her, he would've done it long ago.
Colin was eager to uncover the tactics Stephanie had used to compel Xavier into agreeing to marry her.
Xavier said nothing, and Colin didn't ask further.
Colin always thought Xavier was a beast, but now it was clear that Xavier's inner madness was being suppressed.
And Xavier's eyes were really bloodshot, looking like something bad was about to happen.
Colin asked Mason and found out Xavier hadn't slept for days. So that night, Colin forcibly took Xavier to a bar.
Colin ordered a lot of wine and called Dominic and others to accompany Xavier.
But the atmosphere was so tense that no one spoke. The air seemed suffocating.
Xavier sat in the middle, staring ahead, and no one could guess what he was thinking.
Colin raised his glass and said, "Tonight is our private gathering. We won't talk about anything, just drink!"
At that moment, Xavier's phone rang. He looked at it; it was a message from his people in Skigeth.
The message said that Grace, after working tirelessly for several days, had collapsed and was taken to the hospital by Angela. Fortunately, she seemed to be in no serious condition and had already been discharged.
There were also photos, but only blurry back views.
Grace's silhouette appeared frail, prompting Xavier to wonder why she hadn't dressed more warmly in such cold weather.
Colin and the others didn't know what Xavier saw, but it seemed like he was staring a hole into his phone.
