Chapter 211 Ryan's Regret Over Calling Off the Engagement with Grace
As Grace stepped out of the elevator, the receptionist was already in a panic. "Ms. Lewis!" she called out.
Grace turned, recognizing the same employee who had just refused her entry. "What's up?"
"I'm really sorry about earlier. I messed up. This job means a lot to me. Please forgive me," the receptionist pleaded, having heard what happened upstairs.
Other secretaries working late had filled her in. They mentioned Grace went straight into the board meeting, and soon after, the other shareholders left, leaving only Patrick and Grace in the room. They overheard the shareholders saying Ryan was foolish for transferring his shares, and it seemed Grace held a significant amount.
The receptionist was freaking out. She had offended Grace, who was also Ryan's fiancée. She felt her career was over. Who would've thought someone as ordinary-looking as Grace had such power? If she had known, she would've never crossed her.
Grace looked at her. "Alright, I'll give you another chance. Just be polite to everyone and don't judge by appearances."
"I will, I promise!" the receptionist replied, relieved.
Grace spotted Angela's car and wanted to share the good news. But before she could, she saw Ryan chasing after her.
"Grace!" Ryan called out.
"Can you give me a minute? It's Kelly you're worried about, right? I've cut ties with her."
Hearing Ryan, Grace bolted to Angela's car. "Drive, Angela, go, go, go!"
If Ryan caught up, it would be like a horror movie. Despite his erratic behavior, Grace couldn't tell if he was completely unhinged. Imagine his nerve, saying he didn't want to call off the engagement.
But Grace wasn't worried. She knew that the Montgomery family's fate wasn't Ryan's to decide alone.
Angela saw Ryan too and quickly drove off. No matter how hard Ryan chased, he couldn't catch up.
"Grace, how did it go?" Angela asked.
"Patrick agreed," Grace replied happily.
"Really? That's awesome!" Angela was thrilled for Grace, knowing her biggest wish was to break off the engagement.
"He never agreed before. Why so easily now? Could there be a catch?" Angela wondered.
"I'm not sure, but Patrick said he'd announce it publicly. If it's public, they can't force me to marry Ryan," Grace said.
"Forget it, let's celebrate! How about a party tonight?" Angela suggested.
"My throat still hurts. If I drink, my cold might not get better," Grace said.
"True, but we should still celebrate!"
"Of course! I'll treat you to a hearty meal!" Grace was ecstatic.
"Great!"
Angela drove to a restaurant, and they had a joyful meal.
As Ryan watched Grace walk away, frustration churned inside him, his fists clenching in helplessness. Grace still held Kelly against him. Determined, he decided to deal with the Kelly situation first before trying to clear things up with Grace again.
Ryan was confident; he always believed in his charm. He had a bag of tricks to woo women and had never met one who could resist him. But for now, Kelly was the priority.
If Kelly hadn't tricked him into a hotel room using her birthday as an excuse and then brought in the media, none of this would have happened. If she hadn't tried to expose Grace's scandals, he wouldn't have been set up by Grace and photographed with Xavier. He wouldn't have lost so many shares to Xavier, giving Grace the leverage to break off the engagement.
And Kelly's child was absolutely ridiculous. Ryan, who was once the envy of everyone as the Montgomery heir, was now being dragged through the mud online, labeled as a heartless man due to this scandalous revelation.
All of this was because of Kelly. Thinking about it made Ryan furious. Neither Kelly nor her unborn child could stay!
Ryan knew he'd face Patrick's wrath later, but first, he had to deal with Kelly. Her child couldn't stay!
He stormed into the hospital, his anger palpable.
"Where's Kelly? Which room?" he demanded, slamming his hand on the desk, scaring the nurses.
The nurses, bound by confidentiality agreements, stayed silent. But some people in the hospital, aware of the situation from the live broadcast, pointed Ryan in the right direction, eager to see the drama unfold.
Ryan kicked open the door to the room, but it was empty. Kelly was gone.
"Where's Kelly?" Ryan shouted.
The nurses had no idea, and it was pointless to press them.
Kelly had already escaped after the live broadcast. She knew the Montgomery family wouldn't let her or the child stay, especially with Patrick involved. Her life was in danger, so she had to flee and wait for the right moment to reappear.
Kelly had slipped away, leaving Ryan seething. He vowed to get his revenge when he caught up with her.
Kelly, having chosen this path, was prepared and had found a way out with James's help.
James, smoking a cigarette, looked at Kelly. "So, are you planning to hide forever?"
"Of course not. This is just temporary," Kelly replied.
James said, "After this, not only will Ryan not marry you, but he'll also want you dead."
Kelly's eyes were filled with determination. "I know. But I have a way to make him have no choice but to marry me."
Ryan's secret of being unable to have children might not even be known to Ryan himself, let alone the Montgomery family.
If something happened to Ryan now, making him unable to have children ever again, wouldn't the child in her womb become the only heir of the Montgomery family?
Kelly didn't believe that with everything in her control, Ryan wouldn't marry her. She was determined to become Ryan's wife!
Kelly beckoned to James. "I have one more thing I need you to do. Don't worry, once I become Ryan's wife, what's mine will be yours."
James stubbed out his cigarette and leaned in. Kelly whispered her plan into his ear.
