Chapter 150 Don't Get Yourself Involved

Similarly, the office of the DG Group's branch was still brightly lit. Xavier sat in his office chair while Mason continued to report on the work.

"The acquisition case is pretty much finalized. The contract with Ease Company has been negotiated. Right now, the vice president at the headquarters is overseeing it, so everything is on track. However, there are some minor situations in other branches. These are the summarized materials that need your review," Mason reported.

"Alright," Xavier tapped his fingers lightly on the table, signaling Mason to continue.

"Patrick believes he's in negotiations for two major orders, unaware that they are actually decoy projects we've established. It won't be long before we can reel him in," Mason added.

Xavier deliberately set up the project Patrick took on. With the pretext of a large project, he lured Patrick, step by step, into the trap. At first, he dangled some perks in front of Patrick, leading him to believe he had struck a favorable deal. However, Patrick's cautious nature played right into the trap Xavier had carefully laid out.

As the project entered its mid-phase, Xavier paused progress and lured Patrick into investing more money. Patrick had even begun contemplating using shares as collateral. He believed that as long as the project succeeded, there would be a continuous flow of money. The happier he was now, the more miserable he would be when he learned the truth.

Hearing Patrick's name, Xavier's eyes were filled with disgust. The Montgomery family should have disappeared long ago.

"Get ready to tighten the noose," Xavier remarked.

"Lewis Group has recently snatched quite a few of Iris's projects. Now, with the Gunter family's investment and Madison holding the management rights, Lewis Group has been making significant moves these days. Mr. Montgomery, should you help Ms. Lewis?"

"No need. If she can't handle such a small matter, there's no need for her to carry on with the brand," Xavier said mercilessly.

However, having followed Xavier for many years, Mason knew that Xavier's refusal to help was just to see Grace strive on her own. It was rare for Xavier to take a liking to someone, and Grace had clearly caught his eye. Xavier had little experience with family or romantic relationships and was not good at expressing himself in these areas. His feelings for Grace had clearly surpassed certain emotions, yet he stubbornly refused to admit it.

Although Xavier claimed that his interactions with Grace were to take revenge on the Montgomery family and to force Grace as part of his revenge on Evelyn, some of his actions clearly had nothing to do with these reasons. It seemed more like he was jealous.

Mason thought it was very likely that Xavier would eventually get himself involved. A man like Xavier, who had no experience with love, would be deeply hurt once he truly fell in love, especially considering Grace's identity. In the end, it might be him who bore the emotional scars.

Mason continued his report, "Miss. Park has safely arrived in Oakworth. She arrived a couple of days ago. She had someone teach Jessica a lesson, probably threatening her with some photos."

"Did no one know about Stephanie coming to Skigeth this time?" Xavier's face was cold.

Xavier did not like Stephanie, nor did he approve of her actions. Under the guise of liking him, Stephanie had done many things in secret, believing he was oblivious. Despite Xavier's attempts to intervene, she persisted each time.

Therefore, the optimal approach was to prevent other women from getting too close to him. Xavier didn't appreciate their proximity or physical contact, making it a mutually beneficial arrangement.

"It was my oversight not to have someone keep an eye on Miss. Park."

"I don't want this to happen again."

Mason promised, "I guarantee it won't happen again."

Xavier rubbed his temples, appearing slightly fatigued. "You can go and take a break now. You've worked hard these past few days. Your bonus for this month will be doubled." Xavier was always generous; even without doubling it, Mason's compensation was already significant, surpassing the salaries of most bosses.

"Thank you, Mr. Montgomery. Would you like me to bring you some calming incense?" Mason knew about Xavier's insomnia. He often found it difficult to sleep at night. Despite trying numerous remedies available on the market for insomnia, nothing seemed to alleviate his condition.

"No need, you can go."

"Yes, Mr. Montgomery."

Xavier glanced at a bottle of perfume nearby. In a short time, the perfume was already less than half full.

"Wait," Xavier called out to Mason, who was at the door.

"Is there anything else, Mr. Montgomery?" Mason asked.

Xavier said, "Got the opportunity to buy a bottle of perfume from Grace. It has to be made by herself. Let her decide the scent, but it should be light, natural, and free of any artificial fragrances. And don't let her know it's for me."

Mason was speechless.

"Yes, Mr. Montgomery," Mason agreed and then left the office.

Xavier sniffed perfume. It was a fresh and elegant scent, unlike any other perfume. Xavier had never liked the smell of perfume, whether strong or light; he always found it unpleasant. But this bottle seemed different.

'Did Grace add something to it? It almost felt addictive,' he pondered.

The next day, Grace received an order. It was quite special, requesting only one bottle of perfume, to be made by herself, with the price set at her discretion. However, there were many requirements. It couldn't be too fragrant or too strong, and it had to have a very natural scent.

The scent was inherently elusive and difficult to describe, and the client's request was too vague. Grace wasn't sure how to proceed.

The order was made online, so she typed:[This is too abstract. Can you describe the scent you want more specifically? For example, is it like suddenly meeting someone and feeling that they have a wonderful scent that matches what you want?]

Grace:[Or perhaps, hearing a song, doing something, or tasting something somewhere that suddenly brings this scent to mind? Any of these details would help me more accurately capture the scent you want.]

The client quickly replied:[Coincidentally, I once encountered Xavier Montgomery, and it seemed like I smelled this scent on him.]

'On Xavier?'

Grace remembered that he never wore perfume. He had a natural cedarwood scent. If there was any other scent, it was the perfume she had given him, the scent from their first meeting. Regardless of the scent, Grace didn't want to take this order. She felt that Xavier's scent was unique and couldn't be replicated with perfume. Even if she could create it, she didn't want it used on someone else.

Grace:[Sorry, I can't take this order.]

She directly refused.

Mason was silent as he reflected, 'Did I say something wrong? The conversation was going so well, but Grace suddenly refused. Did Xavier offend Miss. Lewis? How am I supposed to report back to Xavier with Grace's refusal?'
