Chapter 636 She Saw Xavier, It Must Be Xavier!
"Anyway, we have an agreement, and I already have a godson. Why would I need my kid? Marcus will definitely take care of me when I'm old!"
Grace smiled, "Alright, thanks."
"No need to be so formal."
After wrapping things up with Angela, Grace left for a business trip the next day.
This time, her destination was Thalassia, a place far from Vesperia, practically on the other side of the world.
Thalassia wasn't known for its safety; there were frequent conflicts, and the headquarters of an international gang led by Hugh Ramirez was located there. Hugh was notorious for his ruthlessness, and those who crossed him rarely met a good end. However, he mostly operated in other countries and rarely came to their area.
Before Grace left, the Coleman family warned her to be cautious and avoid any encounters with Hugh's people.
Grace thought she was going for a business deal with a large corporation in Thalassia, not with any gang, so she didn't expect any problems.
The negotiations went smoothly. Over the years, Grace had transformed into a strong, capable businesswoman, and her skills were impeccable. Everyone she met praised her and even invited her to stay a few extra days.
Grace replied, "Thanks for the invite, but my son is waiting for me at home. He's still young, and I don't feel comfortable leaving him alone."
Her host smiled, "I didn't realize Ms. Lewis had a son already. But since you're here, you must visit our famous landmark. It's a must-see."
Grace nodded, "I will."
She had planned to visit the landmark anyway. She and Xavier had promised each other that they would travel the world together, and this place was on their list. There was a legend that couples who held hands under the tower would stay together forever, attracting many tourists.
The next day, Grace visited the landmark alone. The structure was indeed magnificent, and tourists from all over the world were there.
Grace stood in the middle of the crowd, gazing at the towering structure. Many couples were taking photos beneath it.
A young couple approached her, speaking in Vesperian, "Hey there."
Grace responded, "Hey."
"We thought you might be from Vesperia too. It's so nice to see someone from home here. Could you take a photo of us?"
"Sure," Grace said, taking their phone.
She adjusted the angle and snapped a picture of the happy couple. Their faces beamed with joy, making Grace feel a pang of envy.
She looked at the photo and was pleased with her photography skills. But then she noticed something in the background that made her heart skip a beat. There was a figure, a profile that looked just like Xavier.
Grace's eyes welled up. Could it be Xavier? She had been searching for him for years with no luck, and everyone else believed he was dead. Only Grace held onto hope.
She quickly looked up, scanning the crowd, but saw nothing. Desperate, she ran to the spot in the photo, calling out, "Xavier Montgomery! Xavier Montgomery!"
"I saw you! I really saw you!"
But no one responded. People around her gave her strange looks.
Not far away, a man paused, frowning as he heard something.
"Killer, what's wrong?" someone beside him asked.
"Nothing," the man replied, his voice deep. He felt a sudden headache, perhaps from the recent missions.
He thought he heard a woman's voice calling a name that stirred something in him.
"This mission was executed perfectly, Killer. When we get back, you might be taking over Hugh's operations," said one of his companions.
Killer was a man Hugh had found five years ago, barely alive and with no memory. Hugh had trained him as an assassin and named him Killer. Over the years, Killer had completed his missions flawlessly, earning Hugh's praise. Hugh, who had only one daughter and was getting older, seemed to be grooming Killer as his successor.
"Yeah," Killer replied, glancing back at the crowd. There were too many people; he saw nothing.
They were supposed to head back after the mission, but he felt compelled to visit this place, even though he didn't know why.
"Let's go. Ms. Ramirez has prepared a celebration for you," his companion said.
Hugh's daughter, Matilda Ramirez, had a clear interest in Killer, and everyone assumed they would end up together.
Killer said nothing and followed his team.
Meanwhile, Grace continued calling Xavier's name, but the figure she thought she saw was gone. She felt utterly helpless, tears streaming down her face.
The young couple approached her, concerned. "Are you okay?"
"I'm sorry," Grace said, handing back their phone. "I thought I saw my husband. He disappeared five years ago. I'm really sorry."
The couple didn't know how to comfort her. They looked at the photo, which was well taken.
Grace asked, "Could you send me this photo? Just the background, because that person looks a lot like my husband."
The couple agreed, exchanged contact information, and sent her the photo.
Grace looked at the image. Though blurry, she was certain it was Xavier's face. It had to be him!
