Chapter 535 Grace really can't be away from him for even a moment.
"I've already told the police everything I needed to say. It was Daniel who made me do it. He's my godfather and saved my life. Without him, I wouldn't be where I am today, so I've always listened to him."
"He told me to do it, and I didn't dare disobey. He likes Grace, so he wanted me to find a way to lure Grace to the house, and then he would make his move on her. Everything was arranged by him. I was only responsible for getting Grace there; I don't know anything else!"
Taylor quickly handed over the items used to lure Grace, "These were Evelyn's things. I thought they were quite valuable, so after Evelyn died, I secretly hid them. I never wore them."
"I only made this one mistake, Xavier. After all, Grace is part of the Lewis family. I raised her for over ten years. Even if I wasn't the best to her, I never let her go without food or clothing."
"Grace growing up to this point is partly my doing. I made a mistake, but my good deeds should balance it out. If not, let me see Grace. I can talk to her."
Taylor still held onto a sliver of hope, thinking Grace might not pursue the matter.
Xavier's gaze was chilling, "As far as I know, Grace already transferred a large sum of money to Zach some time ago, severing ties with the Lewis family. All the money you spent on Grace over the years has been repaid with interest."
"If you think Grace is part of the Lewis family and you raised her, how could you help Daniel do such a thing?"
Xavier's voice was cold. Taylor was not someone who deserved sympathy.
She was purely evil, even willing to hand over her own daughter Madison to Daniel, let alone Grace.
"I was just confused for a moment, and I really couldn't disobey Daniel. He's my godfather. This was all Daniel's doing. I only helped lure Grace over."
"How did Daniel die?" Xavier had no patience to listen to Taylor's lengthy explanations.
Taylor was stunned, almost forgetting to act.
Why was Xavier asking this? Did he discover something?
"I don't know. Didn't Grace kill him? He died on the way to the hospital."
"You had the Gunter family come here to extort us and made them insist that Grace killed him?" Xavier squinted his eyes.
He was just making a guess to see if Taylor would reveal any clues.
Clearly, when he asked, Taylor was a bit flustered.
"The Gunter family came to trouble me, so I had to tell them that. I had no other choice." Taylor continued to play the victim.
"I'll ask you one more time, how did Daniel die?" Xavier's patience was wearing thin.
"I don't know. Are you trying to pin the blame on me to clear Grace's name? Are you going to say I killed Daniel?" Taylor switched tactics, going on the offensive.
"This is such an injustice. I know I wronged Grace, and I know Grace is your person. You have money and power and want to save Grace from a murder charge, so you're trying to make me take the fall. If that's the case, I can tell the police that I killed Daniel, but can Grace live with that on her conscience?"
Taylor shouted loudly, acting completely innocent.
Xavier didn't want to see Taylor anymore. Just looking at her made his hands itch to strangle her.
"I'll give you one day to tell me everything you know. I'll have Daniel's body autopsied. If anything is discovered, you'll meet the same fate as him!"
With that, Xavier stood up and left the police station in large strides.
He was anxious to get back and check on Grace.
He couldn't rest easy for a moment.
He left the other matters to his subordinates, whether it was the lawsuits, making the Gunter family pay, or pressuring Taylor. His subordinates could handle it.
At the hospital, Jared hadn't left yet. He was still waiting, and Scott couldn't get him to leave no matter what.
Besides Jared, another man hurriedly arrived.
"Where's Grace?" Sterling asked, looking travel-worn and clearly anxious.
Although Sterling was out of town, he had people in Skigeth and knew what was happening. He heard about Grace's incident last night.
Sterling rushed over immediately. What was Xavier doing if he couldn't even protect one woman? He might as well give up.
Grace was really blind. There were so many good men, a hundred times better than Xavier, but she chose Xavier!
"Who are you? Grace is resting now." Scott saw the unfriendly man.
He seemed to have seen him before, causing trouble for Grace.
Sterling, with his rough temper, had no patience. He tried to go in, but Scott blocked him.
"Move!" Sterling didn't want to get angry, but his temper was bad.
"Who are you? Why should I move?" Scott didn't want anyone disturbing Grace.
Sterling made a move, and Scott fought back. They were evenly matched and started fighting.
Inside, Grace heard the commotion and quickly got out of bed to open the door.
"Scott!" Grace called out, then saw Sterling.
She was surprised to see Sterling, "Mr. Wallace? What are you doing here?"
Sterling was in Skigeth? How did she not know?
"I heard you were in trouble and came to check on you." Sterling walked in and closed the door.
Angela was also inside. Sterling looked at her, "Do you have any business here?"
Angela was silent.
Shouldn't she be asking him that? Did Sterling have any business here, daring to come find Grace?
"What do you want?" Angela didn't know Sterling well, but she knew he wasn't a good person.
To Angela, Sterling might be just like Daniel. She had to protect Grace!
"Get out. I need to talk to her." Sterling spoke domineeringly.
"I'm not your employee. Why should I leave?" Angela didn't listen.
With Scott outside, Angela thought Sterling wouldn't throw her out.
Sterling looked at Grace. Angela was Grace's friend, so he couldn't act.
Grace said, "Angela, please step out. I need to talk to Mr. Wallace."
Angela was still worried. Grace said, "He's my friend."
Angela was shocked.
When did Grace and Sterling become friends? Sterling never made friends!
But since Grace said so, Angela left.
In the hospital room, Sterling looked at Grace's bandaged hand, "Did Daniel do this?"
He hadn't even had the chance to bully Grace, and now someone else had?
The more Sterling thought about it, the more he felt Xavier was useless. Grace couldn't be without him for a moment. He was just away from Skigeth for a short time, and Grace ended up in the hospital.
