Chapter 334 He Wants to Sow Discord

Grace asked Dominic to help identify the ashes; there was a result soon.

The ashes in the box were not a match, but the DNA extracted from the bottle did match Grace's DNA, confirming that they were her mother Evelyn's ashes.

However, the amount was only half. This meant that the other half was indeed in Kelly's possession.

Having the ashes with Kelly was better than with Patrick, as it would be easier to retrieve them.

Since Grace had already retrieved half, she decided to temporarily place the ashes in Oakworth. Once she had collected all of them, she would purchase a new burial plot for Evelyn in Oakworth.

In the evening, Grace received a call from Patrick.

"Hello?" she answered.

Patrick said, "Grace, about the shares you mentioned last time, I can buy them. When can you transfer them?"

Grace said, "I'm not in Skigeth right now, so this will have to wait until I return."

Patrick paused on the other end. "Did you go to Oakworth to see Xavier?"

"This has nothing to do with you." Grace felt uncomfortable listening to his words and his voice.

Grace couldn't see the hidden malice in Patrick's eyes on the other end of the line.

Patrick had already changed the engagement; Xavier hadn't returned to Oakworth for so many years. He didn't expect Grace and Xavier to get together.

Patrick said, "Grace, don't ignore what I said before. For the sake of our families' long-standing relationship, I'm looking out for you. Don't believe everything Xavier says. He's with you only for your secrets and to get back at you. If you don't believe me, you can ask him. Of course, I doubt he'll tell you anything. You can observe his expressions and see if he's hiding something from you."

"Enough," Grace interrupted,"You don't need to say so much. Whether he's hiding something from me, I'll judge for myself. Do you have anything else?"

Patrick said, "Grace, don't trust anyone too much, especially Xavier. I'm waiting for your return. Transfer the Montgomery family's shares to me as soon as possible."

With that, Patrick hung up first.

Grace knew Patrick's words were not trustworthy, but she couldn't help but think about them. What secret did she have that was worth Patrick's threats? And what was the issue between her and Xavier that Patrick didn't clarify? Maybe she could ask Xavier?

When Xavier returned, Grace told him that half of the ashes were indeed Evelyn's.

Xavier nodded. "Getting half is good."

Grace said, "The other half is with Kelly. She's using it as leverage to make me keep her secret about her and James and ensure her child is born."

That didn't matter as long as she could get Evelyn's ashes later.

"Okay." Xavier nodded.

Grace thought for a moment and said, "Patrick also called me, saying he wants to buy the Montgomery Group shares from me at market price. I agreed, and I'll handle the transfer when I go back."

Xavier said, "You can continue to let Mason handle it. The money can help you expand your company. Although Iris mainly deals with fragrances, you can extend it to other related areas."

"Yeah!" Grace agreed.

Grace looked at him. "Patrick also said something else. He mentioned that I seem to have some secret and that there's something between us, but he didn't elaborate. Do you know anything about this?"

Xavier paused at this. There were indeed issues from the previous generation between him and Grace.

Grace was unaware; Xavier didn't plan to tell her. He didn't want Grace to feel pressured to compensate him. Grace might also think the truth wasn't as it seemed and defend her mother, leading to arguments between them.

Xavier knew Grace's character well, and he figured his own was similar. Neither would back down on this matter. He didn't want to bring up his mother Donna's issue either. So, it was better for Grace not to know. It was enough for her to stay by his side.

"No, he's just trying to sow discord. Don't believe him." Xavier's voice was firm.

Although it was Xavier's usual tone, Grace felt he hesitated for a moment, and his eyes seemed to hide something. But if Xavier said no, then it was no. Grace believed him.

Grace said, "Okay, I trust you. I don't buy anything he says!"

Patrick was a schemer, and nothing he said was true.

If she were deceived by him and had conflicts with Xavier, neither she nor Xavier would be happy, which must be what Patrick wanted to see. She didn't think she had any secrets worth Xavier's efforts to lower her guard and gain something from her. If Xavier really wanted something, he could simply capture her and use countless means to threaten her. Wouldn't that be easier?

Xavier suddenly reached out and hugged Grace, holding her close to his heart.

Grace's eyelashes fluttered as she listened to Xavier's breathing and heartbeat. What was wrong with Xavier? Why did he suddenly hug her?

In a private room at a bar in Skigeth.

Patrick had just called Grace. Shortly after hanging up, the door to the private room was opened by a waiter. "Mr. Montgomery, your guest has arrived."

Patrick quickly stood up and walked towards the door. "Mr. Wallace, Mr. Wallace, hello."

Sterling entered, looking around the room. He ignored Patrick's outstretched hand and had no intention of shaking it.

Two tall men, who looked like bodyguards, followed Sterling. They stood on either side of him after Sterling sat down, exuding a strong presence.

Patrick said, "Mr. Wallace, I apologize for the previous incident. I didn't know you were in Skigeth or that you would appear at my company."

Sterling waved his hand, already showing impatience. "Mr. Montgomery, spare me the pleasantries. Just get to the point. Why did you want to see me?"

Patrick said, "Mr. Wallace, you're straightforward. I just wanted to apologize in person for the trouble caused the other day. It was my security's fault for letting that person in. I'll make it up to you. This round's on me."

Patrick first apologized profusely and then poured three drinks, downing them all.

Sterling watched his performance quietly. The Montgomery family was indeed interesting. Patrick knew Xavier and he were enemies, yet he still dared to meet him. The motive was too obvious.

If he were Patrick, he would try to get on Xavier's good side instead of seeking him out. After all, they were family by blood. Patrick's actions clearly demonstrated that his cunning had ultimately led to his own downfall. It was a pity he arrived in Skigeth too late; otherwise, he would have seen more drama.
