Chapter 577 Grace Is Not That Kind of Person
"What happened?" Dorian's voice came from inside the room.
It was a private luxury hospital suite, and Jane had closed the door again, so Dorian couldn't hear anything from inside. He had just heard Grace's name mentioned, and then Jane went out, leaving him wondering what was being discussed.
Xavier said, "If this is how your country treats guests, I might reconsider whether to continue my business ventures in Aetheria."
Xavier's enterprises spanned the globe, with Vesperia as the headquarters, and numerous branches in other countries. His business had already penetrated Aetheria long ago. Especially after learning last year that Grace was part of the Coleman family, Xavier had specifically focused on expanding his business there. Jane might not be aware, but Xavier had significant investments in Aetheria now. The Coleman family, another prominent family in Aetheria, was Grace's relatives. It could be said that Aetheria's economy was largely controlled by Grace.
"Let's go." Xavier placed the carefully selected fruits and flowers Grace had brought at the door, then took Grace's hand and left directly.
Robert hadn't expected things to turn out this way. He hurried to catch up, saying, "Xavier, Jane didn't mean it that way. Grace and I are not just business partners; we're friends. We absolutely didn't mean any offense. We really like Vesperia!"
Dorian also came out from inside but only saw Grace and Xavier leaving together. Xavier's hand was protectively on Grace's shoulder, ready to shield her from any danger.
Seeing the items left behind, Dorian asked, "What's going on?"
Jane moved closer to Dorian, "I'm not really sure what happened. Grace came over, and then she and Xavier had some confusing conversation, and then they just left."
"You know we have a language barrier; I couldn't understand what they were saying."
Jane was now pretending not to understand, but Dorian, watching Grace's departing figure, suddenly strode after her.
"Dorian! Dorian!" Jane called out behind him, her eyes filled with malice. It seemed that even if someone's memory was wiped clean, they would still instinctively want to be close to those connected to them. Jane was furious; she had been by Dorian's side for so many years, yet she still couldn't compare to Elizabeth, who was dead and didn't even exist in his mind.
By the time Dorian caught up, Grace and Xavier were already in the car, leaving only Robert behind.
"Where's Grace?"
"She's already left." Robert also felt that Jane had acted very inappropriately. "Dorian, do you think Jane might be having some issues? She's been so easily agitated and speaking so harshly lately. Do you think it could be menopause?"
Jane seemed to have a particular animosity towards Grace, and it was completely unprovoked. If he were Grace, he would definitely be upset hearing those words. If Grace weren't so well-mannered, she might have started yelling.
Robert didn't think he was superior to anyone; in fact, he felt he was not as good as Grace and Xavier.
"What exactly happened?" Dorian asked, having missed the events outside.
Robert quickly filled Dorian in on what had happened, and Dorian's brows furrowed, his handsome face taking on a cold expression. Even if it wasn't towards a benefactor, one shouldn't speak to anyone in such a manner. Jane had never been so ungracious.
Dorian returned and directly confronted Jane, "Grace came to see me out of kindness. Why did you speak to her like that?"
"I was just too anxious. Who knows what their intentions are? What if they're just trying to curry favor with us, using our status to make connections, or doing it deliberately for someone to see?" Jane made excuses.
"Grace isn't like that!"
"You've only met her a few times. How can you be so sure she's not like that?"
Jane's question indeed stumped Dorian. He hadn't met Grace many times, yet he was certain she wasn't that kind of person. Perhaps it was Grace's kind heart or the stories he had read about her online that made him want to get closer to her, to understand her better.
"From now on, treat Grace with respect. She's your savior. If you feel uncomfortable in Vesperia, I'll arrange for you to go back."
Jane was taken aback, "What do you mean? Are you planning to stay in Vesperia and not return?"
Dorian had originally come to Vesperia because he heard Jane was in trouble. But now, he had fallen in love with the place and suddenly didn't want to leave.
"I have some matters to attend to. Since I'm here, I naturally need to meet with Vesperia's leaders, which might take some time." Dorian found an excuse.
Dorian knew this wasn't the real reason he wanted to stay. His visit was personal, not official, and he didn't actually need to meet Vesperia's leaders.
Jane couldn't possibly let Dorian stay here alone. If something uncontrollable happened, it would be too late for her to intervene.
Jane said, "Dorian, in the eyes of others, we are a loving couple. Since you're visiting Vesperia, there's no reason for me not to be by your side."
"I understand your point. Rest assured, I'll definitely stay by your side. Wherever you are, I'll be there."
She intended to stay close to Dorian, keeping an eye on Grace, ensuring Grace had no chance at all!
After leaving, Grace felt something was off. "I noticed Her Royal Highness Jane York seems to have a lot of hostility towards me. She wasn't like this before. I thought maybe she was in a bad mood or not feeling well, but today I realized it might be more complicated."
Even Grace had sensed it, so Xavier certainly had too. Xavier had some thoughts but didn't want them to affect Grace.
"Don't overthink it. Don't waste your energy on irrelevant people. They'll leave Oakworth soon and won't intersect with us."
Grace nodded, but she couldn't help but think about it. Jane's hostility was too inexplicable. When she had met Jane in Aetheria before, Jane had been fine. It seemed that after seeing her face, Jane's hostility had intensified.
Grace suspected Jane might have known her mother, Elizabeth. Otherwise, why would she react so strongly to her face, just like Scott and the others?
Grace looked too much like Elizabeth. She wanted to find out the truth and decided to investigate.
After leaving, Xavier called Dominic. Dominic was a doctor, making it easier for him to investigate certain matters. "You're at the hospital, right? Check on someone's situation for me."
