Chapter 249 Then Let's End It
Under the dark night, Ryan lay in the grass, clutching his lower body in pain. He grimaced and rolled on the ground, the pain so intense it was driving him crazy.
The attackers had fled, and he hadn't seen their faces, just knew they were two men.
Ryan's phone rang nearby, showing a call from the driver, but he couldn't muster the strength to answer.
The pain was unbearable, like something was broken, and he didn't dare touch it.
After a while, the pain numbed, and he couldn't feel that area anymore.
Sweat covered his forehead, and he felt trapped.
After nearly half an hour, Ryan crawled over and picked up his phone.
There were many missed calls from the driver. Ryan called back, "Come... find me."
By the time the driver arrived, Ryan was almost unconscious from the pain.
"Mr. Montgomery! Mr. Montgomery!"
Ryan forced himself to stay conscious. "Take me to the hospital, to the hospital!"
On the cruise ship, Grace and Xavier were resting in the top-floor suite.
There had been a few social gatherings, but Grace found them boring.
The two auction items Xavier had won were delivered to the suite.
Besides the painting, there was a large uncut natural blue diamond.
It was the first time Grace had seen such a large blue diamond, and she couldn't help but stare.
Xavier signed for them, and the delivery people left.
The items were just placed there, and Xavier didn't seem interested in checking them.
"Aren't you going to open them and take a look?" Grace asked.
Xavier opened them. He wasn't really interested; he bought them out of respect for Jared.
Grace had looked at these items a few times during the exhibition, so he bought what she seemed interested in.
"What do you think of this painting?" Xavier asked.
Grace had sent the previous one to the museum, so it was no big deal for him to give her another one.
"It's very collectible," Grace said.
Although it wasn't as valuable as the previous one, it was still an original.
"Then keep it for me. Hold onto it." Xavier rolled up the painting and tossed it to Grace.
"Such a valuable thing, you should keep it yourself. I'm afraid I'll damage it," Grace said.
Grace didn't dare hold onto it; it felt like a hot potato.
"I have no use for this gem either. I bought it out of obligation. I'll give it to you," Xavier said.
"I don't..." Before Grace could finish, Xavier interrupted, "If you don't want it, just throw it away."
Grace fell silent.
"When you bought these, you didn't intend to keep them for yourself, did you?" Grace asked, hinting that Xavier had bought them for her.
Grace didn't like feeling like a kept woman.
She wanted to stand by his side, not be a plaything.
"I don't need these," Xavier said nonchalantly.
"But I don't need them either. I don't know why you want to give them to me, but I really don't need them," Grace said, finally addressing the issue seriously.
She had mentioned before that these items were too valuable for her to accept.
Xavier frowned. He wondered, 'Why did Grace seem unhappy with the gifts? Didn't Victor say women loved receiving gifts, especially expensive and unique ones? Both the painting and the diamond were unique. Grace had seemed so interested during the auction, but now she didn't want them?'
Grace said, "Ryan has many lovers. He gives them gifts, and when they break up, he gives them money. They usually don't bother him afterward and are even happy. Daniel is the same; as long as his lovers please him, they get a lot of things."
"I don't know if you see me like those women, but I'm different. I don't need anything from you, and you don't need to compensate me for anything," Grace continued.
She bit her lip and lowered her eyelashes, looking serious.
Their relationship had always been ambiguous. Grace thought it was time to clarify things.
She knew she could never be the only one in Xavier's heart, but she didn't want their relationship to be like those others.
"Xavier, if you ever think our relationship should end, just say so. I won't cling to you, so you don't need to give me anything," Grace said.
Xavier felt helpless and uncomfortable. A kind of indescribable frustration filled his heart.
He thought, 'What did Grace mean by this? That she was always thinking about ending our relationship?'
She had said these things more than once.
She said she wouldn't get pregnant and wouldn't cause him any trouble.
She said he could end things at any time, and she wouldn't cling to him.
Grace was so straightforward. After all this time, did she have no feelings for him at all?
Did Grace see him as just a tool?
Xavier laughed coldly. "What do you think our relationship is now?"
Grace didn't know either. She had asked herself what her relationship with Xavier was, and after thinking it over, she seemed to be just a lay for Xavier.
But if she said that, she feared Xavier would get angry.
And now wasn't the right time to say something that would ruin the mood.
"So what do you think our relationship is?" Grace lifted her eyelashes and met Xavier's deep gaze.
His breathing was heavy, his eyes deep and turbulent, with a hint of an unclear emotion.
Xavier had always thought his emotions were faint. He had never had feelings for anyone. To him, everyone in the world fell into three categories: strangers, partners, and enemies.
Xavier had no relatives, and he had never had feelings for anyone, so he could handle everything clearly.
But after meeting Grace, he changed, becoming more emotional. From having no feelings for her to gradually discovering the qualities in her, he found himself irresistibly drawn to her.
Those qualities were not just her appearance but also her unique stubbornness and effort.
Even knowing she was that man's daughter, he couldn't stop himself from meeting her time and again, feeling his heart stir with every encounter.
Xavier had disclosed their relationship in front of Ryan and brought her to the banquet as his companion. He thought these actions might prove something.
So maybe Grace was even clearer than he was. She knew from the beginning what she wanted, and she didn't even want to use him. She could be so straightforward, leaving whenever she wanted.
Xavier's gaze darkened. "Since you think we should end it, then let's end it."
