Chapter 638 Killer

The knife slipped from the man's hand, clattering to the ground as he let out a pained cry.

Grace's eyes widened in shock, her cheeks splattered with blood. It was the first time she had felt a bullet whiz past her ear, and she was terrified.

"Get him outta here!" Hugh's men quickly moved in, dragging the man who had threatened Grace away.

As Grace was still reeling from the shock, she suddenly noticed a figure turning to leave in the distance.

That figure looked so much like Xavier!

Grace only saw the back, but she was convinced it was him!

"Xavier Montgomery!"

Grace immediately gave chase, but the man had already turned a corner, and she was blocked.

"Hey, what do you think you're doing? Get lost if you know what's good for you. We don't want any trouble," one of Hugh's men, all of whom were thugs, assumed Grace was there to cause problems.

"I need to see him!" Grace pointed at the man's retreating figure.

Hugh's man sneered, "Do you even know who he is? Dream on."

"Who is he?" Grace was sure the figure resembled Xavier.

"That's our boss, Killer."

"Killer?"

Killer?

Who would have a name like that?

"He's not someone you can just meet. Forget about it."

Grace was held back, unable to pursue further, and with her flight about to take off, she had no choice but to head to the boarding gate.

In the airplane restroom, Grace wiped the blood off her face.

This trip had shown her just how chaotic Thalassia was, with violence breaking out at any moment.

But that figure...

No, it couldn't have been Xavier. Angela was right. If it were Xavier, he would have come to find her, even if it meant abandoning his company.

Maybe she just missed him too much and was seeing things.

Still, she was curious about this Killer.

Without internet on the plane, Grace had to wait until she landed to message Mason.

[Mason, do you know anything about someone called Killer?]

Mason replied quickly: [Not much, but I did some digging. He's part of the biggest gang in Thalassia. Their leader is Hugh Ramirez, and Killer is one of his top enforcers, known for never failing a mission. Hugh sees him as his successor.]

There wasn't much information on Killer, just that he's highly skilled. Surviving under Hugh and being groomed by him is no small feat.

Mason also looked into Hugh, who had a notorious reputation. He built his empire from nothing and was feared by many. He also had a daughter named Matilda, who was no less ruthless.

But Hugh and his gang rarely operated outside Thalassia.

"So, they haven't been to Vesperia?"

"Doesn't seem like it."

Grace lowered her gaze. With such a distance, there was no way Killer could be Xavier. She was definitely overthinking it.

...

Thalassia.

A massive, dark castle loomed, and a man was thrown to the ground.

Nearby, a man with a face full of scars sat in a chair, looking terrifying.

The man on the ground was the one captured at the airport.

Seeing the man in the chair, he panicked and knelt, begging for mercy.

"Mr. Ramirez, I was wrong, I really was!"

The man in the chair toyed with a gun, his voice raspy, "You realize that now? Isn't it a bit late?"

Hugh was more powerful than the king of this country.

He could take the throne anytime he wanted, but he preferred his position in the underworld.

"Please, spare me, just this once," the man on the ground pleaded, knocking his head against the floor.

Hugh spoke, "Do you know why I had you brought back?"

"No," the man shook his head.

Hugh's voice was like the devil's, "Because I wanted to kill you myself!"

With that, he raised his hand and shot the man.

The man's eyes widened, a bullet hole in his head, blood pouring out as he collapsed.

He died instantly, and his body was quickly removed, the blood cleaned up.

"Killer," Hugh called, and a man stepped forward.

In the dim light, the man's face was strikingly handsome, his expression cold, his eyes devoid of warmth.

"You called for me," Killer's voice was smooth and pleasant.

"I have a task for you," Hugh ordered.

"You know my recent plan involves several countries. If it succeeds, our influence will spread. Most countries understand their place, but Aetheria's king refuses to cooperate."

Killer understood, "You want me to kill him?"

"Try to persuade him first. If he still refuses, then eliminate him."

"Understood," Killer agreed.

As Killer was about to leave, a woman approached, "Dad, Killer."

Killer nodded and stepped back.

Matilda walked up to Hugh, "Dad, you gave Killer another mission?"

"Yes," Hugh nodded.

"What is it this time?"

"Aetheria. Don't worry about it."

Matilda quickly caught on, "Dad, you can't be sending Killer to assassinate Aetheria's king. That's impossible, with all his bodyguards."

Hugh replied, "If he can't do it, he won't be able to hold this position in the future."

"But it's dangerous," Matilda was worried.

"Which of his missions isn't dangerous?"

"Dad, I want to go with him. We'll do it together."

"No, I can't let you take that risk."

"But you can't just send him alone. Dad, you know I like..."

"Enough," Hugh interrupted Matilda, "This is also a test for him. If I hadn't saved him five years ago, he'd be dead. His life belongs to me."

He had been in a coma for a month, his body covered in injuries, barely clinging to life.

When he woke up, he had no memory of who he was.

Though he remembered nothing, his skills and determination remained. Hugh saw his potential and began to train him, making him a loyal enforcer.
