Chapter 378 Holding Xavier's waist tightly with both hands
The DNA results came back fast—Wendy's matched with Steven and Scott.
Turns out, they were blood relatives.
Everyone was floored, Wendy included.
Well, almost everyone. Patrick managed to feign shock along with the others.
"How is this even possible?" Patrick looked like he couldn't believe it.
Scott was so stunned he couldn't even speak. They'd actually found their sister.
But something felt… off. There was an intangible distance between them and Wendy. Scott felt much more comfortable around Grace. Being with her always brought a smile to his face.
"Wendy, is she really our sister, Aunt's daughter?" Scott wondered if he was just too overwhelmed to feel any joy.
Steven frowned, looking pretty uneasy.
"Dad… am I not your daughter?" Wendy was totally confused.
"This is so sudden," Patrick replied. "I… I don't know what to think."
Steven held the DNA report and asked, "Mr. Montgomery, where's the crystal? Can we see it?"
Patrick said, "It's at my place."
"Perhaps we could go there?" Steven suggested.
"Sure," Patrick nodded.
Over at Montgomery Manor, Kelly had just woken up and heard the servants talking about an important guest coming over.
Kelly thought it was weird. Who could be so important to Patrick?
Patrick came back soon, with two men and Wendy in tow. The vibe was super awkward.
Kelly didn't go downstairs. She stayed hidden and listened in. What she heard shocked her.
Wendy wasn't Patrick's daughter; she was the sister of those two guys.
Kelly saw Patrick go into his study, leaving the door open. He was looking for that crystal.
Patrick found the crystal but felt something was off. He couldn't put his finger on it, but he didn't have time to worry.
Kelly watched as Patrick took the crystal downstairs to Steven and Scott. "This is it. This is the crystal Wendy had when we found her."
Kelly knew Patrick was lying.
She remembered how Wendy's eyes looked so much like Grace's but still couldn't figure out why.
Kelly stayed quiet and didn't go downstairs.
Steven said, "Mr. Montgomery, our grandfather is really sick. Can we take her to Aetheria?"
Patrick replied, "This is all so sudden. We should respect Wendy's wishes."
Wendy shook her head, "No way. I don't even know you guys. I'm Dad's kid. Even if we're family, why did you abandon me? Why do you want me now? I'm not going!"
Wendy was firm, and Patrick looked helpless.
This was all part of Patrick's plan. If Wendy went with them and they did another DNA test, his scheme would be exposed. Plus, Patrick didn't have much power and couldn't mess with things in Aetheria.
Patrick had to stall the Coleman family and figure out his next move.
Since Wendy wouldn't go with them, Steven and Scott had no choice. At least they had found Elizabeth's daughter.
Steven and Scott left the Montgomery Mansion, but Steven just sat there in the car, not starting the engine.
"Steven, what's up? Aren't you happy we found our sister?" Scott asked, noticing Steven's troubled look.
Steven frowned. "Something feels off."
"Like what?" Scott pressed.
Steven couldn't put his finger on it. One minute, they didn't have a sister, and the next, Wendy shows up out of nowhere.
But the DNA test said Wendy was their blood relative.
Steven knew they had just stumbled upon Patrick, and no one in Skigeth knew their plans. Wendy's eyes were so much like Elizabeth's; it couldn't have been staged.
Still, Steven felt uneasy.
Meanwhile, after a long flight, Grace finally landed at Oakworth Airport.
She headed straight to the DG Group but hit a snag since she wasn't an employee. The receptionist didn't know if Xavier was in.
Grace asked the receptionist to contact Xavier, and the staff, being polite, agreed to help.
Soon, Mason got the call and informed Xavier. "Mr. Montgomery, Ms. Lewis is here at the company entrance."
Xavier didn't expect Grace to show up so soon, but he knew he'd have to deal with it eventually.
"Let her in," Xavier said.
Mason handed Xavier a box. "Mr. Montgomery, this is for you."
Inside was a complete crystal, pieced together from two halves, which Xavier had someone retrieve from Patrick.
Grace was let in and escorted to Xavier's office.
It was her first time at Xavier's company, and she was blown away by how massive and luxurious it was. The building was in Oakworth's pricey financial district, showing off the DG Group's power.
Xavier's office was even more impressive. The whole floor was practically his and Mason's, with a panoramic view from the top.
Bookshelves lined the walls, filled with books in various languages.
Grace felt a growing unease as she waited.
The weather was freezing, and the chill seemed to seep into her bones.
She had no idea how long she waited before the office door finally opened.
"Xavier..." Grace stood up excitedly, but it was just a secretary.
The secretary said, "Miss, Mr. Montgomery isn't sure when he'll be free. Would you like something to drink? Are you cold? Perhaps I should adjust the thermostat?"
"No, thank you. I apologize for the trouble," Grace replied with a light smile.
"Not at all," the secretary said and left.
Grace checked the time. It was already afternoon. She hadn't eaten since morning, and her stomach was starting to feel uncomfortable, either from hunger or the baby.
She endured it, waiting who knows how long. Finally, the office door opened again, and this time, it was Xavier.
He looked as tall and handsome as ever in his suit, the face Grace had missed so much.
Without thinking, Grace ran over and hugged him tightly.
Her arms wrapped around his waist, but instead of his usual scent, she was hit with a strong smell of perfume.
