Chapter 031 Satisfied Appetites and Lingering Desires

Grace set the food down and placed the fork in front of Xavier.

"I'm not sure what you like, so I just whipped up something; please don't mind if it's not to your taste," she said.

Xavier sat across from her. He wasn't a picky eater, it had just been a long time since he'd had some homemade cooking.

"Mr. Montgomery, go ahead and eat. Why are you staring at me? You don't get put off watching me eat like Ryan, do you?" Grace joked self-deprecatingly.

Xavier picked up his fork. "I mean no offense," he said, cooly.

The soup she made was genuinely aromatic. Upon sipping it, the pain in his stomach seemed to be enveloped by something warm, relieving it swiftly.

He tasted the other dishes Grace had made, and the flavors were exceptional.

"Do you cook often?" he asked, curiously.

"Not really," she responded, casually.

Grace had moved out of the Lewis Villa quite some time ago, and since takeout often tasted awful, she opted to cook for herself. But sometimes she was too busy to eat or would prepare several meals at a time.

Grace wasn't particularly hungry since she had snacked a bit at the party. Nevertheless, she sat down and kept Xavier company as he ate.

Her mother used to tell her that eating alone could feel lonely, but having company made a world of difference. Even if the meal wasn't great, at least they could share the experience.

Watching Xavier eat, she noticed how his sleeves were rolled up to his forearms, revealing his well-toned arms. The way his hands held the fork was almost like a piece of art.

He sat up straight in his chair, exuding a natural aura of elegance.

Even while eating, his movements were measured and deliberate, sitting there as if he were the patriarch of an influential family, perfect in poise and appearance.

"Xavier," Grace called out his name.

"Not calling me Mr. Montgomery anymore?" His voice was deep.

"Or do you have a preference for that? Do you prefer it when people address you as Mr. Montgomery?" Grace leaned forward, resting her chin on her hand as she looked at him.

"Not at all," he said without a hint of that supposed preference.

Grace let out a soft laugh, and as Xavier lifted his gaze, he was met by her glittering, crescent-shaped eyes, as if they held entire galaxies within them.

When Grace put on a fake smile, she looked like a cunning little fox, seemingly plotting yet appearing innocent. But when her laughter was genuine, her eyes sparkled like the stars. Her eyes were incredibly beautiful.

Unfortunately, Grace was the daughter of his foe.

Xavier set down his fork. "I'm full."

Grace thought, ‘He didn't eat much at all. How can someone his size only eats so little? But then again, it's not good to eat too much at night. A lighter meal is probably better.’

"Some more soup?" Grace offered, batting her eyelashes.

"No, thanks," he answered.

She thought to herself, ‘Well if he doesn’t want more, I might as well finish it. It'd be a shame to waste it.’

Grace poured herself some soup. Unexpectedly, Xavier sat back down and joined her for the soup.

Planning to clear the table briefly, Xavier stopped her, "The hotel staff will take care of this tomorrow. Why don't you go take a shower?"

Hearing this, Grace felt surprised.

She thought, ‘Is he trying to get me into bed right after dinner? That’s very forward for Mr. Montgomery.’

Grace headed to the bathroom. Before she entered, Xavier handed her a bag. Upon opening it, she found a set of pajamas.

She thought, ‘Xavier sure is prepared, isn’t he?’

During her shower, Grace was careful to avoid getting her face wet, preserving her makeup. This time, she didn't linger too long in the washroom.

When she came out, she saw Xavier standing by the floor-to-ceiling window, talking on his phone. His tall figure cast a long shadow in the light, and the scenery outside seemed to fade into the background, elevating him to a heavely status.

The way his shirt was tucked into his pants accentuated his perfect waistline. Whether clothed or not, the man was undeniably irresistable.

It seemed that Grace's gaze made him aware of her presence, as he turned his head to look at her. Stepping out of the bathroom, Xavier said coolly, "All right, that's settled then."

After he ended the call, Grace walked over to Xavier, peeking her head around from behind him. "Mr. Montgomery, are you still busy?" she asked.

The sudden scent of fresh milk was like a pop rock candy exploding on the tongue, sweet enough to tingle but not sickening. Although the hotel provided the body wash, it felt as if Grace had prepared it herself.

Xavier's breathing grew slightly heavier as he pushed her away. His Adam's apple bobbed, his voice deep and almost hoarse. "I'm going to take a shower."

He entered the bathroom, leaving Grace seated on the sofa scrolling through her phone. Angela had sent her a message.

Angela: [Grace! I forgot. You didn't drive here, how are you getting back?]

Grace replied.

Grace: [I got lucky and caught a ride.]

Angela: [Really? There are still good people in the world. Are you home yet?]

Grace: [Not yet, I came to the hotel.]

Angela responded with several exclamation points, followed by an immediate phone call.

"Who is it with? Have you been kidnapped? Should I call the cops? Is it the guy who gave you a ride? Did he do something to you?" Angela peppered her with questions.

"If I were kidnapped, would I be talking to you now?" Grace answered, lightly teasing.

"So, this was your choice?" Angela asked in disbelief.

"Yeah," Grace replied.

"Grace, is he handsome?" Angela asked curiously.

"Very handsome," Grace divulged.

"Are you sure he saw your face clearly in the dark?" Angela was doubtful; she knew Grace was beautiful, especially after she had reapplied her makeup.

Grace joked, "Not sure."

"I've always told you to enjoy life, to live like this. Look at Ryan, no telling how many women he's been with. It's okay for you to see a few guys! I support you! But remember, if he's this casual, he might not be a good guy. Make sure to stay safe, and protect yourself. I'll let you go for now, but make sure to call me tomorrow and tell me all about it!" Angela reminded, anxiously.

With Angela so worked up, anyone would think she was the one about to embark on an adventure. Although Angela spoke her mind freely, her own love life was nonexistent. She said she was focused on her career, as men would only slow down her ability to make money.

It wasn't long after Grace hung up that Xavier came out of the shower. It wasn't her first time feeling this way, but strangely, Grace felt nervous. The first time had been her scheme, the second was bewilderment at his handsome face, but this time, she was fully aware as she watched Xavier approach her.

Fresh from the shower, his hair was still damp. Droplets of water trailed down his neck, undeniably sensual.

She couldn't help but think he was too attractive. It's no wonder rumors were flying around Oakworth that all the women wanted to marry Xavier; even though his photo had never been plastered across any media outlets, those who had seen him couldn't help but sing praises of his good looks.

Grace suddenly felt very fortunate. Not only did she know more of the truth, but she had also shared a bed with such an outstanding man.
