Chapter 554 Should I Call You Mrs. Ross?

It had been ages since Angela last saw Edith. Despite Edith's chic outfit, mask, and oversized sunglasses that hid her face, her exhaustion was obvious. It was like she was a completely different person.

People can really change a lot in a short time. Edith used to be someone everyone wanted to be around, someone who never gave Angela the time of day. But now, look at her.

One thing Angela knew for sure, though, was that Edith was still as unbearable as ever.

Angela smirked, "Or should I call you Mrs. Ross now?"

Underneath her sunglasses and mask, Edith's face went even paler.

Angela continued, "Mrs. Ross, you must be living the dream now, huh? After all, you did pick this husband for me first. I bet he's just perfect for you."

"Angela, cut it out!"

Angela kept smiling, "Oh, you noticed? I learned from the best, Mrs. Ross."

The title nearly made Edith lose it. She clenched her fists tightly to keep herself from snapping.

Behind Edith stood Zander, smoking a cigarette and chatting on the phone.

"Yeah, babe. Of course, I love you the most. Sure, I'll come over tonight and bring you a gift, okay?"

Zander didn't care at all that he was married.

When Edith woke up, she found herself back at the Ross Villa. Her suicide attempt had failed, and she had been saved. That very night, Zander had...

Edith wanted to run, to go back to the Turner family, but she had no chance. The Ross family had bodyguards watching her, and Zander had a terrible temper. If she upset him, he would hit her.

Zander hadn't pretended to be anything other than what he was before the marriage, but after, his true nature was fully exposed. He drank, gambled, and had many bad habits, including other women on the side.

Edith regretted everything. If she could do it over, she would never have gotten involved with a family like the Rosses. But the Turner family had abandoned her, acting as if she didn't exist. She had no way out.

Today, Zander seemed to be in a good mood or maybe pleased with Edith's recent behavior. She wanted to go shopping, and he agreed. But probably to prevent her from running away, he came along. The Ross family was indeed wealthy, even more so than the Turners. Zander didn't hesitate to spend money, letting her buy whatever she wanted.

Edith was almost convincing herself that if she could just keep Zander happy, he wouldn't hit her. And with his money, she could eventually steal enough to escape. The Turner family had treated her so poorly, especially Flora. She would get her revenge.

Seeing Angela looking so radiant, with a handsome man by her side, filled Edith with jealousy. She cursed Angela daily, wishing her the worst, but it seemed her curses had no effect.

Edith sneered, "Angela, do you even have the cash to shop here? Can you afford that dress?"

Everyone knew Angela's husband, Scott, was a nobody. He looked like he couldn't afford much. That dress probably didn't even have a brand, likely a cheap knockoff.

Angela replied, "Whether I can afford it or not is none of your business. I just think it's not worth the price."

She wasn't someone who couldn't come up with a million dollars, and besides, she had Scott. For Scott, even a billion dollars was nothing.

"I've seen people brag, but never like you. If you can swipe a card for a million dollars, I'll admit defeat."

Edith hated Angela with a passion. She didn't want to see Angela living well. She wanted to humiliate her.

"What good is your defeat? How about this: if I can, you bow to me twice. Deal?"

Angela crossed her arms, looking at Edith. She didn't care, but she wondered if Edith had the guts to bet.

Edith bit her lip. If it were Angela, she might scrape together the money. But she had seen Scott take out the card. Was he so poor that he mistook a million for a thousand?

"If you can't, you have to do something for me, whatever I ask," Edith countered.

Angela nodded, "No problem."

Edith was bound to lose. Scott could buy the entire mall if he wanted to.

Angela leaned closer to Scott, wrapping her arm around his, looking at him with pleading eyes, "Can we, honey?"

The term "honey" made Scott's heart skip a beat.

Could Angela stop looking at him like that? It was strange and made her look pitiful.

"Is one dress enough?" Scott asked.

Angela replied, "One is fine. Consider it a lesson for someone. But seeing someone bow to me would make me very happy."

Edith thought Angela was just putting on a show.

At that moment, Zander finished his call and walked in. Seeing Angela, he was surprised.

"Angela?"

Zander's eyes lingered on Angela. She was stunning. He had always noticed her unique charm, her carefree spirit. Unlike Edith, who seemed lifeless, Angela was vibrant.

Zander had once thought Edith was beautiful and elegant, but after being with her, he found her boring. Compared to Angela, Edith was nothing.

"What's going on here?" Zander asked Edith.

Edith pointed to the dress in Angela's hand, "I want that dress. Can you buy it for me?"

A million dollars was a lot, but Zander had the money. He should agree, right? Angela couldn't afford it anyway, so Edith would pay if Angela couldn't.

"How much?" Zander asked.

Angela answered, "Just a million dollars."

"A million dollars? For that piece of junk? Do you have any idea how hard it is to make money?" Zander raised his hand and slapped Edith hard across the face.

Her sunglasses flew off, revealing her bruised and swollen eyes to everyone.
