Chapter 235 He Fell in Love with Two Women at the Same Time
"Still on the line?" Xavier noticed the call was still connected.
Grace snapped back. "I'll hang up now. Goodnight!"
After hanging up, Grace lightly tapped her head. How could she be so taken by Xavier's smile, even over the phone?
She organized her notes and reviewed what Xavier had shared, then looked up some case studies. It was past 2 A.M. when she noticed a missed call from Stephanie.
'Why did Stephanie call?' Grace wondered but didn't call or message her back.
Grace went to her room, lay down, and quickly fell asleep.
Stephanie had dug deeper, and by the next morning, she found out Ryan might have crucial info about that night. Despite others' reluctance, she saw Ryan as the best lead.
She got Ryan's number and called him. He was still in bed, which was big enough for him and two women, with another on the sofa. Clothes were scattered everywhere. They had a wild night, and Ryan was satisfied. It was late, and he was still asleep.
Ryan's phone buzzed non-stop, making him frown. He cursed inwardly, 'Who could be this annoying?'
One of the women handed him the phone. "Mr. Montgomery, your phone."
Ryan saw an unknown number but answered anyway. "Who is it?"
"Are you Ryan? This is Stephanie."
"Stephanie? Never heard of you," Ryan mumbled, still half-asleep.
"I'm Xavier's future wife. You can start calling me 'Aunt' now," Stephanie replied.
Ryan was puzzled.
"Just saying you're Xavier's wife doesn't make it true. Many claim that title." Still groggy, Ryan hung up.
Stephanie, furious, called again. After several rings, Ryan answered, annoyed, "What now?"
"I need to ask you something." Stephanie mentioned a date and asked, "Did you see Xavier that night? Who was the woman with him? Tell me, and I'll grant you one request, anything you want."
Ryan remembered that night vividly.
"Why do you want to know?"
"I just want to know if the woman with Xavier that night was Grace," Stephanie said bluntly.
Ryan thought of that beautiful face and denied it. "No." It wasn't Grace. Grace couldn't compare to that woman.
Thinking of her, Ryan realized he hadn't thought about her in a long time, but now he felt no beauty could compare. She was stunning, like crafted by God.
The allure of the women from the previous night faded in comparison.
Ryan thought, 'If I could just have a taste of that woman, I might die a happy man.'
Ryan felt his heart flutter again; it seemed he was in love with two women at once.
'How could Xavier be into Grace after experiencing such beauty? Why did Grace accuse him of having many lovers when Xavier had a history of the same?' Ryan pondered.
"Not Grace? Then who was it?" Stephanie asked.
"Why should I tell you? Stop calling me." Ryan didn't want to hear Xavier's name. Just hearing it annoyed him. He decided he'd surpass Xavier one day.
Stephanie was mad about being hung up on again, but knowing it wasn't Grace made her a bit happy. She knew it couldn't be Grace.
Grace's days were a routine of work and home. Meanwhile, Iris's brand was thriving, gaining a good reputation in the industry.
Yet, Grace often thought about Evelyn's ashes, the key to her peace. Evelyn's belongings were still with Zach, adding to her unease. With the Lewis family in turmoil, Grace decided to visit and settle these matters.
The Lewis Group was now in Madison's hands, and she had taken over completely.
Although Daniel had bought her a new house, Madison stubbornly stayed in the Lewis villa. She wanted to revel in Zach's misery and see his regret.
When Grace returned to the Lewis villa, Madison was there, but Zach wasn't.
"What are you doing here?" Madison glared at Grace.
"I'm not here for you. I'll leave soon." Grace went upstairs.
Where had Zach put Evelyn's belongings? She had looked before but hadn't found them.
Madison followed her. "This is the Lewis villa, not a place you can come and go as you please."
"You know this is the Lewis villa, not just your house. I can come and go as I please. Got a problem with that?" Grace retorted.
"You!"
"If you have a problem, call the police and say I'm trespassing. Let them arrest me." Grace was indifferent.
Legally, she was still part of Zach's family. As long as she was family, the police couldn't kick her out.
Madison didn't hate Grace as much anymore. While she didn't hate her intensely, she still felt disdain and superiority.
From Madison's perspective, with her new wealth and influence, why bother with someone like Grace who seemed to be at the bottom of the societal ladder? Madison also thought Grace was foolish. The Montgomery family, though not as wealthy as Daniel, was still prestigious. Yet Grace had broken off her engagement with Ryan.
Madison followed Grace, who looked at her and asked, "Why are you following me?"
"To make sure you don't steal anything," Madison said.
Ignoring her, Madison continued, "Grace, I heard your company is doing well. I didn't expect you to be too scared to enter the fragrance competition. I thought someone as proud as you would participate."
Grace stayed silent, not engaging with Madison's taunts. When she had participated in fragrance competitions, Madison was still playing with dolls.
"You ruined my reputation before, but this time I'll prove myself. I'm definitely getting a top spot!" Madison was very proud.
Grace said, "What's there to be proud of about a stolen spot?"
"What did you say? You think my spot is stolen?"
"Isn't it? The competition hasn't even started, and you're already sure you'll win. You know better than I do if there's any foul play. If you can convince yourself, then be happy," Grace countered.
