Chapter 351 Is Xavier in a Relationship?
"Alright, where were we? Let's keep going. Don't you all wanna get outta here early?" Xavier said.
Everyone was confused. 'Why's Xavier in such a rush? Isn't he usually the workaholic around here?'
One brave soul stood up, admitted their mistake, and suggested a fix. They expected Xavier to blow up, but he just nodded and stayed quiet.
The rest of the meeting went surprisingly smoothly. They thought it would drag on for another couple of hours, but it wrapped up in just over half an hour, and Xavier was out the door in a flash.
"Does Mr. Montgomery have something urgent?" someone asked, scratching their head.
The others just shrugged, clueless.
"Mr. Montgomery never used to be like this. He used to burn the midnight oil."
"Didn't you notice? Ever since that phone call, he's been in a way better mood and stopped chewing people out. Who was the angel that called him?"
"Yeah, Mr. Montgomery never takes calls during meetings. His phone's usually with his secretary or on silent. This time he answered it and even docked his own pay."
"Don't you think he's been different since he got back from Skigeth? I can't put my finger on it, but he's way more chill. He's been leaving work earlier recently, though not as early as today."
"Do you think Mr. Montgomery might be in love?"
"No way. With his temper, who could he possibly like? It's always others who like him. With so many beautiful women having a thing with him, he hasn't shown interest in any of them. The Park family's heir is always chasing after him. Has he ever given Stephanie a second glance?"
"You never know. Mr. Montgomery has strong self-control, but what if he met someone he really likes? How else do you explain today?"
A group of employees chatted curiously about Xavier.
Xavier's behavior was definitely off. After that phone call, he was so agreeable. Something was up.
If Xavier really was in love, they were dying to know who the lucky lady was.
Grace was still cooking when she heard the door open.
She was wearing an apron and poked her head out to see Xavier coming in.
"Why are you back so early? Dinner's not even ready yet," Grace said, holding a small spoon, thinking Xavier would be back later.
She had bought a ton of groceries, and tonight's dinner was gonna be a feast.
"Nothing much at work, so I came straight home," Xavier said, closing the door behind him.
His eyes fell on Grace. She had been out working today and was wearing a long dress, looking very graceful.
Grace, in her apron, accentuated her slim waist. Though it wasn't a uniform, he couldn't help but think about taking that apron off her himself.
There was still a lot of work at the office, but Grace had asked him to come home early for dinner, so he didn't want to do anything else and came straight home.
He wanted to see her, immediately.
Seeing Grace now, Xavier felt a sense of fulfillment.
It was a wonderful feeling. Before meeting Grace, Xavier never thought he would experience something like this in his life.
Grace said, "You'll have to wait a bit longer. I'm not done yet."
Xavier, in a soft tone, asked, "Okay, need any help?" He walked into the kitchen in his suit, not caring that his custom-made attire might get greasy.
Grace responded, "No, you go rest outside. Besides, your cooking is..."
She paused, not wanting to hurt Xavier's pride. Last time at her place, his cooking was, well, pretty average.
"What's wrong with my cooking?" Xavier asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Nothing, you're just slow. I'm faster," Grace quickly changed the subject.
She gently pushed Xavier out of the kitchen and got back to work.
But Xavier didn't go rest; he stood at the door, watching her.
Grace was busy but organized, knowing exactly what to do without getting flustered.
Even though Xavier had a ton of work, he rushed home just to see her sooner.
Finally, Grace set up a table full of dishes and opened a bottle of Xavier's treasured wine.
"Is today some big day?" Xavier asked, puzzled.
Grace replied, "It's not a special day, I'm just happy."
She raised her glass and cheered, "I secured the overseas contract. This project wouldn't have been possible without you, Xavier. Your project proposal was perfect. Without it, I might not have gotten the deal."
Xavier clinked glasses with her, his lips curling into a slight smile. "The proposal was just support. The main focus was on your company's products. I only made adjustments based on your foundation. The credit is mostly yours."
Grace said, "Well, everyone in the company contributed to securing this project. I'll be giving out bonuses and gifts to thank them. But you also deserve credit, Xavier, so this is a special thank you to you!"
Xavier smiled. "Well, then I'll accept your gratitude."
"Wait a moment, I have something else for you." With that, Grace ran off to another room.
Xavier finished his wine in one gulp. He realized that Grace was so genuine. A little kindness from others, and she would give her whole heart in return.
If the Lewis family had treated her a bit better when she was young, she would have been much happier.
But it didn't matter now. Grace had him from now on.
Grace quickly returned, holding a gift box. "Like I said, everyone who contributed gets a gift. They have theirs, and you have yours. I saw this at the mall this afternoon and thought it would suit you."
Grace placed the gift box in front of Xavier, who took it. "So, did you personally pick out their gifts too?" he asked.
Grace said, "Of course not. I had Lily pick them out. She knows the staff better than I do. What if they didn't like what I chose? But this one, I picked out carefully for you. I hope you like it!"
Xavier opened the box to find a dark tie and cufflinks with unique patterns.
"I love it," Xavier said, smiling as he accepted the gift.
Xavier had received many gifts before, but he rarely used them. The one that had stayed with him the longest was the watch on his wrist, which he still wore and had no intention of taking off.
Grace and Xavier continued their meal, and it seemed Grace had something else to say.
She hesitated for a long time before finally speaking up after they finished eating. "Actually, there's one more thing I..."
Just then, the doorbell rang.
