Chapter 048 Settling Your Marriage Affairs

Grace felt it was no longer safe to stay at her home now that Tom had even found her address. Continuing to live there presented a higher risk for danger.

Grace planned to stay in a hotel to ensure her safety. She could also stay at Angela's place, but she was worried it might cause trouble for Angela.

After some thought, the splendid place where Xavier had previously stayed came to mind, but the presidential suite there cost tens of thousands of dollars per night, which was still too extravagant for Grace.

Just then, Grace's phone rang.

It was Ryan calling. "Where are you?" Ryan's voice was as impatient as ever—or, one might say, he had never had a good temper with Grace.

In the background, there was the whiny sound of Kelly's voice. "Ryan, I miss you so much. I want you to join me for dinner."

Ryan spoke to Kelly, "There, there, I'll finish up quickly and come back to you."

Hearing this, Grace felt sick. Moreover, Tom had been instigated by Kelly, and Grace hadn't confronted Kelly about this yet!

"Is there something you want?" Grace asked, annoyed.

"What's with that tone? Do you think I want to call you? If Dad hadn't told me to bring you home for dinner, I wouldn't have bothered!" he said, begrudgingly.

"Grace, what exactly have you been doing out there? If you have no shame, I still do. I'll tell dad everything. A woman like you isn't clean enough to step into our house!" Before Ryan could finish his rant, Grace had already hung up the phone.

It was only after Ryan had cursed a few more times that he realized the call had been disconnected long ago.

This made Ryan even angrier. "That bitch dared to hang up on me!"

Kelly tried to soothe him, "Ryan, don't get worked up, it's not worth messing up your health over this. For all we know, Grace must be feeling guilty, that’s why she hung up. Ryan, I am positive, Grace isn’t pure anymore. She's been with other men!"

Out of Ryan's sight, Kelly's eyes were filled with malice.

Even though her plan hadn't worked, Grace had been drugged last time. Even though someone had taken her away, those men must have done something to her by now.

Tom refused to talk, so Kelly couldn't find out who had taken Grace away that day, no matter whom she asked.

"She wouldn't dare!" Ryan thought fiercely. "If Grace has really slept with someone else, I'll kill her!"

After hanging up the phone, Grace thought about what Ryan had said about exposing her secrets to Patrick. Well, if that could nullify the engagement with the Montgomery family, then all the better.

Grace hailed a taxi and soon arrived at the gates of Montgomery Manor. She brought some gifts with her, and a servant escorted her inside, but the Montgomerys were wealthy, they snubbed at the modest presents Grace brought.

Amy didn't even bother to have someone receive her. Taking advantage of the moment, Wendy sneered, "What's with these trinkets? Are you trying to appease a beggar?"

Grace wasn't embarrassed. She set the gifts aside.

Wendy couldn't stand Grace. "Mom, why did you invite her to dinner? I can't even eat looking at her face."

Amy waited until Wendy had finished ranting and then said, "Wendy, that is no way to speak.

"Wendy is still young, Grace. If you marry into this family, you'll have to be accommodating to Wendy. No one puts hardships on a Montgomery daughter."

Grace just gave a faint smile, not contributing to the conversation. She thought to herself, "Montgomery daughters can't be aggrieved, but whose daughter deserves to be?"

Amy quickly went upstairs, leaving Wendy alone with Grace on the ground floor.

No matter what Grace did at Montgomery Manor, Wendy would find fault. And if Grace did nothing, Wendy would have even more to say.

"You're so lazy, not even bothering to make dinner. Who do you expect to serve you?" Wendy sneered.

Grace retorted, "If I cooked, would you even dare to eat it? Aren't you afraid I’d poison it?"

"You wouldn't dare! I really don't know what dad sees in someone as indecent as you. I’ve heard all about your escapades with men other than Ryan," Wendy accused.

"Really? That's quite a coincidence. I heard you haven't exactly been keeping it platonic with men yourself," Grace said.

"You're talking nonsense! How dare you slander me? Do you have any proof?" Wendy nearly jumped up in anger.

"Do you have any proof? Or are you just making things up?" Grace remained calm, her voice growing colder and her gaze sharper.

To Grace, the Montgomery family didn't matter, so no matter what those people said, she didn't get angry.

"You!" Wendy stamped her foot in a fit of rage.

"What? You can freely gossip about others, but they can't talk about you? Or do you think you're above everyone else? What if one day you lose the Montgomery family's support? What then? Are you sure you can survive in this world on your own?" Grace stated, cooly.

Wendy stared at Grace, dumbstruck, until Ryan's voice came from the doorway. "What's going on here?"

Wendy suddenly realized that she had just been given a lesson by Grace.

"Ryan!" Wendy began to tattle. "Ryan, she insulted me. She's the one who did shameful things, yet she has the nerve to scold me. You have to stand up for me."

Ryan looked at Grace with disdain. "Grace, are you sick of living that you dare to pick on my sister?"

Grace didn't even bother to lift her head; she was too uninterested to even glance at Ryan.

When Ryan felt ignored, he was about to explode with anger, but just then, Patrick and Amy came downstairs.

"Ryan, you were called home for dinner; how many times do we have to invite you? The whole family is waiting for you."

The moment Patrick spoke, Ryan wilted. "No, Dad, it's all Grace's fault! I went out of my way to pick her up from her place, and somehow she showed up by herself, causing the delay."

Ryan placed all the blame on Grace. In truth, he hadn't gone to pick her up at all; Kelly had kept him occupied for a good while.

Patrick didn't say much, just called everyone to come eat.

Grace sat quietly next to Ryan, and Patrick began discussing business with Ryan. Though Patrick had given Ryan a position in the company, Ryan hardly cared about the business. He spent his days playing around, rarely seen at work, which had caused some board members to complain.

"Are those old men out of their minds? It's the Montgomery family's company. They're just trying to squeeze more money out of us," Ryan complained.

"You're the General Manager. You need to be at the company every day!" Patrick scolded, his voice raised.

"I got it, Dad," Ryan replied.

Patrick continued, "I've also looked at some auspicious dates for your marriage to Grace. It's time to settle this matter that's been dragging on for so long."

The real reason he wanted them back was clear now; Ryan and Grace needed to hurry up and tie the knot.

"I've talked it over with Zach, and maybe you guys don't need to be engaged. Just pick a good day and get married. What do you think?" Patrick added.

"Dad!" At the mention of this, Ryan shot up from his seat. "I disagree!" Ryan glared at Grace with fury in his eyes.

"Dad, you have no idea what Grace has been up to these days. I heard she got gang-raped; I do not want a woman who's so unclean!" Ryan declared.
