Chapter 286 Relax Your Legs
Victor had no choice but to head back and swap his clothes, slipping into another pair of beach shorts that were a bit more low-key.
The summer evening was still kinda toasty, even the sea breeze had a bit of warmth to it. The beach was packed with folks waiting to catch the sunset.
The afterglow of the sunset and the evening sky lit up most of the horizon. The scattered sunlight on the water made for a picture-perfect scene.
Last time, Grace caught the sunrise; this time, she was soaking in the sunset. It felt like her experience was coming full circle.
She whipped out her phone, snapped a few pics, and threw them up on Facebook.
Since Ryan got out of the hospital, he’d been chilling at the Montgomery Mansion. Naturally, Kelly found some excuse to move in too, supposedly to take care of Ryan and rest up during her pregnancy. Truth is, she just wanted to crash at the mansion.
In Ryan's room, Kelly was scrolling through her phone when she saw Grace's post on Facebook. She smirked.
Kelly waved her phone in front of Ryan. "You keep thinking about Grace every day, but she ain't thinking about you. Look! She's out there having a blast."
Ryan grabbed Kelly's phone and saw the photos Grace had posted.
Besides the blazing sunset, the pics also had some buildings. Ryan knew the spot; it was the same resort he’d been to before.
So, Grace went to the resort? Who's she with?
Ryan picked up his phone and saw that Grace's Facebook was still empty. She hadn’t added him back after blocking him.
He immediately called his assistant to set up a trip to the resort. He wanted to go ASAP.
The assistant soon hit him back, saying the place was too popular and there were no rooms available.
Ryan didn’t care. "I don’t care what it takes, just make it happen!"
The assistant made a bunch of calls and finally snagged a room for three days later.
Ryan did this partly to tick off Kelly; he just couldn’t stand her.
Kelly chimed in, "Ryan, do you know what you look like right now?"
Ryan asked, "What?"
Kelly said, "Like a lapdog."
No one had ever dissed him like that before. Ryan, already hating Kelly, was now both pissed and grossed out. "Get out! Get out of my sight!"
Kelly said, "Ryan, even if you hate me, there's nothing you can do. For the rest of your life, you'll be stuck with me. I suggest you treat me better, or I'll ruin you and keep you by my side forever."
Ryan felt a chill; this was exactly the kind of thing Kelly would do.
The thought of marrying someone like Kelly made Ryan feel trapped.
Ryan said, "You're nuts, you crazy woman!"
Ryan kicked Kelly out of the room.
In the past few days, she had snooped around most of The Montgomery Mansion but hadn’t found Grace's mom's ashes. Where could Patrick have stashed them?
Running out of time, Kelly feared Grace might reveal her secret, so she had no choice but to confront Patrick head-on.
Patrick was in the study. Before heading there, Kelly changed into a strappy dress that hugged her body, showing off her slightly rounded belly.
After changing, Kelly strutted over to the study. She knocked on the door and waltzed in without waiting for a response.
"Get out!" Patrick snapped the moment he saw Kelly.
Kelly had the nerve to mess with the Montgomery family.
"Dad, I brought you some coffee," Kelly said, carrying in the cup.
"Get out!" Patrick's tone was full of anger.
But Kelly didn't give a damn; she knew Patrick couldn't really do anything to her.
"Dad, I know you don't want to see me, but I need to talk about something serious." Kelly moved closer to Patrick.
"Grace called and said you took her mom's ashes. If you don't give them back, she'll marry Ryan. But I'm Ryan's fiancée, and we're getting hitched in less than ten days. Dad, why not just give Grace her mom's ashes?" Kelly's voice softened, sounding all sweet and delicate.
"How could her mom's ashes be with me?" Patrick denied it flat out.
He'd never give up Grace's mom's ashes. If he couldn't force Grace to marry, the ashes might be his only leverage down the line.
Kelly said, "But Grace clearly said..."
"Enough, get out!" Patrick cut her off, showing no courtesy.
Kelly bit her lip and reluctantly left Patrick's study. She decided to think up other strategies, hoping to squeeze some info out of Ryan.
Grace and her friends played on the beach until evening before heading to dinner.
Grace had a blast and ate more than usual at dinner.
After dinner, there were still plenty of activities, including a pool hall that Victor wanted to check out. But Grace, feeling pretty wiped, decided to skip it.
Since Grace wasn't going, Xavier decided to pass too.
In the end, only Victor and Isaac went.
Grace and Xavier strolled along the road. The night sky was gorgeous, filled with stars and a high-hanging moon.
After stuffing herself with a hearty meal and drinks, Grace had zero desire to move.
Walking with Xavier, Grace suddenly spotted a couple nearby. The girl looked tired, and the guy was giving her a piggyback ride.
Grace suddenly felt playful and patted Xavier's back. "Mr. Montgomery, I'm so tired I can't walk anymore."
"What? You want me to carry you?" Xavier's voice was cool but especially pleasant in the night.
Then he stopped walking.
Grace imagined that if Xavier were to carry her, it would definitely draw a lot of attention.
"No, I want a piggyback ride." Her voice was soft, almost teasing.
Grace thought Xavier would refuse. After all, how could someone as powerful as Xavier give her a piggyback ride?
But she wanted to try it, to see what it felt like to be so tall, looking down on everyone.
To her surprise, Xavier crouched down in front of her. "Hop on."
Grace's lips curled into a smile. She jumped onto Xavier's back, and he carried her.
Afraid of falling, Grace tightly wrapped her legs around Xavier's waist.
However, Xavier patted her leg and said, "Relax, there'll be plenty of times for you to hold onto me."
Understanding the implication, Grace blushed instantly.
What an embarrassing thing to say!
