Chapter 673 Is He Dead?
"Your best friend's daughter?"
Killer had done his homework on Grace. Her mom was Evelyn, and she was part of the Coleman family. Her dad was Zach.
Dorian's records, though, showed no real ties to the Colemans. One was a king, the other a businessman from Aetheria.
If the Coleman family was protecting Grace because they controlled Aetheria's economy, that made sense.
But Dorian said it was because she was his best friend's daughter.
Best friend...
Dorian and Zach didn't know each other, so the best friend he mentioned must be Elizabeth.
But according to the intel, Dorian had no connection to Elizabeth either. So where did this best friend thing come from?
Either Dorian was lying, or there was more to the story.
When Dorian spoke just now, he didn't seem to be lying, especially when he mentioned his best friend. His expression was off.
His eyes had tightened for a moment, showing restraint and a hidden depth of emotion when he mentioned her.
These were things Dorian himself might not have noticed, a genuine, involuntary reaction.
Grace and the Coleman family had reconnected six years ago.
And five years ago, Dorian suddenly announced his divorce from his queen without any warning. Their love had been famous, and the sudden breakup suggested something significant had happened.
Considering Grace's situation, Killer had a theory: Could Grace be Dorian's daughter?
Otherwise, why would Dorian protect her so fiercely?
"Just talking, Mr. Astor, don't take it seriously. Since that's the case, I'll be on my way."
With that, Killer strode out of the palace.
He hadn't killed Dorian this time, partly out of a sudden sense of compassion.
If his guess was correct and Dorian was Grace's father, killing Dorian might affect Grace...
But this had nothing to do with Grace. He didn't spare Dorian for her sake. He just felt that killing Dorian would cause chaos among the people of Aetheria, which would complicate their plans.
Dorian would be left alone for now. They'd wait and see how things unfolded before making a move.
As Killer left the palace, he saw Zane still waiting. "Why are you still here?"
"Killer, you were in there for so long. Did the mission succeed?" Zane asked, then quickly added, "What am I saying? If you took action, there'd be no problem. Should we report to Hugh that the mission is complete?"
"No."
"What?"
"The mission isn't complete. Dorian is still alive."
Zane couldn't believe it. Killer was the best. How could he not complete the mission? "Were you discovered or..."
"Didn't find the right opportunity. We'll try again next time," Killer said vaguely.
Zane didn't question it much. The palace was heavily guarded, after all. If Killer said they'd try again, it meant they needed to prepare a more thorough plan.
"Killer, where are you going now?"
"I've got other things to take care of. You don't need to tag along."
"I'm here to help you out. I'm coming with you," Zane insisted, trailing behind Killer.
Killer was on his way to meet some officials.
He hadn't reached out to them yet, but they had already set up a meeting.
"Mr. K, you're finally here." They greeted him warmly, but Killer stayed icy.
After being dismissed by Killer yesterday, they had been trying to get in touch, but Killer hadn't responded.
They knew Killer was pissed and were pretty anxious.
"Mr. K, we messed up yesterday. We didn't know that model was your person. I hope you had a good time last night, so can you forgive us?" one of them said with a forced smile.
Zane, who had followed, was puzzled. What model? What beauty?
These guys must have tried to butter up Killer by sending him a woman.
But they had the wrong idea. Everyone knew Killer had zero interest in women. Even if they stood naked in front of him, he wouldn't bat an eye.
"Mr. K, I've apologized, and I left as you asked last night. So, about our cooperation..."
"No need to cooperate anymore. We don't need people who can't follow orders. I came today to tell you that whatever you do from now on has nothing to do with us. We're done working with you!"
The official turned pale. "Mr. K, please calm down. We didn't mean to disobey. I'll listen to you from now on. I won't dare to disobey again!"
Killer remained unmoved. Such a person, if they became the king of Aetheria, would be a disaster for the country.
So he decided to look for other suitable candidates, though he worried Hugh might not have the patience to wait.
After dealing with the officials, Zane was curious. "Killer, what did he mean by what he said? What happened with a model last night? A one-night stand?"
"No."
There was no one-night stand. After sending Grace back, he had returned.
"So it did happen? Killer, what kind of model could make you interested? So many people have tried to send women to you, even throwing them naked on your bed, and you didn't even glance at them."
"Don't listen to their nonsense."
"Killer, you mustn't let Matilda find out about this. You know how she feels about you. She's very jealous. If she sees someone looking at you, she'll slap them. If she finds out you were with another woman, she won't let it go. But don't worry, I'll keep it a secret!"
"I told you, nothing happened!" Mentioning Matilda made Killer frown even more.
She had indeed grown up with Hugh, and her temper was terrible. She had done all sorts of things, including killing and arson.
Killer handed his room key to Zane, telling him to return to the hotel. He had other matters to handle.
Zane reluctantly went back to the hotel, only to find a woman waiting at the door. She seemed to be waiting for someone.
And she was stunningly beautiful, the most beautiful woman he had ever seen. Her face was so captivating that it was hard to look away.
