Chapter 298 Poisoning, Insanity

Oakworth, a private hospital.

Xavier bolted over right after he got off the plane.

This place was run by the Montgomery Group. It wasn’t huge, but its medical tech was top-tier. They primarily focused on research, tackling tough and rare diseases, but they made exceptions for rare cases and occasionally took in patients.

The docs here? All A-listers. Any one of them could be the best in the biz.

By the time Xavier got to the hospital, it was already dark.

Dean Keith Morgan was waiting at the door. "Mr. Montgomery."

"What's the situation?" Xavier's face was stone-cold, but you could see the urgency in his eyes.

"Mr. Park's been poisoned. We did a gastric lavage, but he's old and his heart's weak. He might not make it through this. Plus, there are other complications. It's pretty bad."

"What's the treatment plan? When's he gonna be out of danger, and when will he wake up?" Xavier kept his cool.

Keith filled him in as they headed to the ward upstairs.

As soon as Xavier stepped out of the elevator, Stephanie, who was at the ward door, rushed over.

"Xavier, you finally came. I... I don't know what to do. Grandpa..." Stephanie cried, her eyes all puffy.

Xavier dodged her hug.

Stephanie was taken aback, a flash of anger in her eyes.

Her tears kept falling. "Xavier, I'm so scared. My parents died early, and Grandpa raised me. He's all I have left. If something happens to him, I'll be all alone. I don't think I could go on."

She sobbed, her swollen eyes looking at him pitifully.

Xavier said, "He'll be fine. We have the best doctors here."

Seeing Xavier still so cold, Stephanie's heart sank. "Xavier, can you hug me? I'm really scared."

Looking at Stephanie, Xavier knew she needed support and comfort, but it shouldn't come from him.

Xavier said, "Sorry, the doctor said Mr. Park will wake up soon. You don't need to worry too much; he’ll be fine."

Xavier had rushed back as soon as he heard about Joseph's poisoning.

He was really concerned about Joseph's health,  recognizing that without his benefactor, Joseph, he wouldn't be where he was today.

"But I can't help but worry. He's my only grandpa!" Stephanie kept crying, tears streaming down her cheeks.

She didn’t wipe them away, thinking that normally, Xavier, no matter how cold, should comfort her and wipe her tears.

She had no choice; she missed Xavier too much. She couldn't go to Skigeth, so she had to use this method to get Xavier back to Oakworth.

In fact, she had bet correctly. Xavier wouldn't ignore her. Joseph indeed held a very important place in Xavier's heart.

"What happened with the poisoning?" Xavier asked.

Stephanie said, "I'm not entirely sure. Grandpa suddenly fainted today, so I had to call you. It was only after bringing him to the hospital that I found out it was poisoning, but we've all been eating the same food."

Xavier said, "I’ll handle the poisoning matter."

Now that Joseph was down, it meant a lot of things.

The person who poisoned Joseph must be within the Park family. The Park family business was huge, and over the years, many have been eyeing it. Joseph's son and daughter-in-law died early, leaving only Joseph's granddaughter Stephanie as the heir to the Park family.

Stephanie usually didn't mess with company stuff 'cause she just didn't care. Her heart was all about Xavier.

Xavier asked, "Has Mr. Park mentioned anything lately? Any trouble at the company?"

Stephanie shook her head. "No, but some shareholders have been pushing Grandpa for more power."

"Got it." Xavier just took a quick glance at Joseph in the ward and then got ready to bounce.

Stephanie suddenly grabbed his hand. "You're leaving already? Grandpa hasn't woken up yet. Can you stay with us for a bit?"

Stephanie knew if she asked him to stay with her, Xavier definitely wouldn't.

She thought, 'It's been so long since we last met. Doesn't Xavier miss me at all? But whenever I see Xavier's face, I go crazy. I want him, to marry him!'

Xavier should be hers. They've known each other for years. She's beautiful and loaded. What does Grace have? Can she even compare?

She didn't know what spell Grace had cast on Xavier. If she bad-mouthed Grace, Xavier definitely wouldn't buy it. She could only use this method to drive a wedge between Grace and Xavier.

Xavier said, "I've kept Mr. Park's hospitalization under wraps. The Park Group folks won't know, but if Mr. Park doesn't show up, they'll definitely get suspicious. I need to handle this and find out who poisoned him."

With that, Xavier pulled his hand back.

He even frowned at the spot Stephanie had touched. He hated being touched; it made him feel all kinds of uncomfortable.

Since Xavier said so, Stephanie couldn't stop him. "Alright, you go. I'll call you when Grandpa wakes up."

Xavier left without looking back, took the elevator downstairs, and spotted the restroom. He went in and washed his hands.

Upstairs, Stephanie wiped away her tears, her swollen eyes filled with malice.

To make her eyes look swollen, she had to cry for real. But when she couldn't, she had to pinch her thigh continuously, leaving it bruised.

Even if Xavier investigated, he wouldn't find out she was behind it.

She knew many shareholders wanted Joseph out of the picture so they could take over the Park Group.

This way, she could totally pin the blame on those people. They'd be her fall guys.

She had done everything flawlessly, just giving some ideas to those who wanted the Park Group.

Even if investigated, it would only lead to those people in the Park Group because they were the ones who bribed the household staff to poison.

Although Stephanie only had Joseph as family and loved her grandpa dearly, it was all Joseph's fault. If Joseph hadn't stopped her from going to Skigeth, none of this would have happened.

She thought, 'The poison dosage isn't high; Joseph will be fine.'

'Grandpa, don't blame me,' Stephanie thought to herself. After wiping her tears, she picked up her phone and sent a message.

Stephanie: [Did you see her? Xavier is not in Skigeth. Now is the best time to act.]

The reply came quickly: [What's the rush?]

How could Stephanie not be anxious? As long as Grace was around, she was a threat. She wanted Grace to disappear forever.

That's why Stephanie chose to team up with Sterling.
