Chapter 149 I Had No Intention of Seducing You

Grace hurriedly lunged forward, covering Xavier's mouth, fearing what he might say next.

Her hand touched Xavier's nose and lips, her palm warm and carrying a scent of hand sanitizer. Though Xavier found the smell somewhat cheap, it wasn't unpleasant.

As Grace threw herself forward, perhaps she didn't even realize that her body was pressed against Xavier's.

'Xavier was unfiltered in his speech with the driver in earshot. What if this leaked?' She thought.

"Xavier, mind your words!"

Xavier clasped Grace's hand and pulled it away. "Did you wash your hands?" Xavier's expression conveyed a hint of disdain. His supposed obsession with cleanliness was no joke.

Grace said deliberately, "No. I didn't wash them after coming out of the restroom."

Grace glanced at the driver through the rearview mirror. The driver’s expression was indifferent, seemingly focused solely on driving. He was Xavier's long-time driver, well-versed in what to ignore and what not to mention. Yet, this didn't prevent his eyes from discreetly scanning the rearview mirror, intrigued by Xavier's affairs.

Having worked for Xavier for several years, the driver had never seen a woman in Xavier's car, let alone witnessed Xavier flirting with one.

Outwardly calm, the driver was inwardly amused. He was so engrossed in his thoughts that he almost forgot to watch the road. Suddenly, a child darted out in front, forcing him to brake sharply.

The sudden stop made Grace instinctively hook her arm around Xavier's neck, while Xavier's hand encircled her waist, preventing her from lunging forward. Her slender waist was soft and pliable, fitting perfectly in his grasp. Xavier felt a feather-like tickle in his heart, making him uncomfortable.

"Are you alright?" Grace saw a child running ahead.

The driver shook his head. "I'm fine. Sorry, Mr. Montgomery."

"Be careful," Xavier said.

As the car restarted, Grace realized her hand was still on Xavier's neck, and his hand was still around her waist, as if they were glued together.

Grace lifted her eyes and could see Xavier's face up close—the chiseled jawline, handsome features, and perfectly proportioned facial structure. She had to admit, he was very good-looking, exuding a rugged charm that was incredibly attractive.

Grace's heartbeat quickened uncontrollably while she imagined, 'if only I could keep looking at him like this.'

When Xavier lowered his eyes to look at her, she quickly averted her gaze, pushing Xavier away and extricating herself from his embrace.

Her breathing became erratic, and she swiftly composed herself, pretending as if nothing had occurred. Grace raised three fingers. "And thirdly, during our meal earlier, I inadvertently touched you. I assure you, there was no intention of seduction on my part!"

Xavier was to blame for having such long legs. She could touch him with just a slight stretch of her leg.

Grace could even reasonably suspect that he had deliberately stretched his legs that far.

Thinking of Xavier's teasing later, Grace said, "But your actions afterward were quite misleading."

"Really? What did you misunderstand? Tell me," Xavier said.

"Nothing," Grace looked out the window. "So, where exactly are we going?"

Grace wasn't afraid. She didn't believe Xavier would really sell her, and she didn't think she had any value.

Xavier didn't say where they were going and didn't tease Grace further. Soon, the car stopped in front of a restaurant.

Xavier said, "Get out."

Grace got out of the car and looked at the restaurant.

'Is Xavier really taking me out for a meal?'

Seeing Xavier walking ahead, she quickly followed. His legs were indeed long, and from behind, his figure was straight and tall, exuding a natural elegance akin to that of a noble prince.

"Mr. Montgomery, your reserved private room is this way," the waiter said, leading Xavier.

Grace knew this restaurant, and it was notoriously difficult to secure a reservation. She followed Xavier to the private room, and the waiter handed over the menu. Xavier immediately passed it to Grace. "Order whatever you want."

Grace had already eaten a bit earlier and wasn't very hungry now. "I'm not very hungry. You go ahead."

Xavier ordered a few dishes. The portions here were small, just right for the two of them. Grace originally thought Xavier had called her out to discuss something important, but it turned out he just wanted to have a meal with her and said nothing else.

"You called me out just to eat?"Grace asked.

She couldn't understand why they had to come to another place to eat when they could have eaten with Angela and the others earlier.

He hadn't eaten much there, likely because he didn't enjoy the food or the company.

But if he didn't want to eat with others, why did he sit down in the first place? Grace had a bold guess—was it because of her? But she wasn't there at the time; so Xavier shouldn't have seen her. This guess seemed unfounded.

"What, you'd rather eat with Omari?"Xavier asked.

Grace remained silent.

'Why does he always bring up Omari? I have no other relationship with him.'

Since they were already seated, Grace ate a bit more. While eating, her cheeks puffed up like a little squirrel. At some point, Xavier put down his fork and watched her. After Grace had her fill, Xavier took her back.

"Thank you for the meal. If there's a chance next time, It's my treat."

Xavier sneered, thinking, 'She is already thinking about the next time after just meeting me this once.'

Grace returned to the office. As soon as she entered, Lily approached her to discuss some work matters. "By the way, Angela is in your office."

Grace hurried back to her office and indeed found Angela there.

"Grace, didn't you say you had work at the office? Where did you go?"Angela asked.

Grace hadn't expected Angela to come. Shesaid, "I got another thing."

She couldn't very well say she had gone to eat with Xavier.

"Stephanie ordered too much food, and a lot of it was untouched. You left in a hurry and didn't eat much, so I thought I'd bring some over for you to eat when you're not busy."

Angela was worried Grace might be hungry and had specially brought food for her. Grace felt a wave of gratitude.

Grace hugged Angela and gave her a big kiss. "Angela, you're the best."

"I know, I'm the best in the world," Angela said.

Grace had just had a second meal with Xavier and was very full, unable to eat anything more. "I'll save it for tonight." Grace put the food in the fridge.

Angela had nothing else to do and left after delivering the food. Grace worked alone in her office until evening.

The moon and stars hung in the sky, and the city began to quiet down. Grace was the only one left in the office. The night was deep, and a lot of documents were still piled up in front of her.

Grace had no shortcuts in life; she could only rely on herself.
