Chapter 303 Is This Something I Can Ask?

Angela was totally freaking out. The second Sterling walked out, she bolted in.

"Grace, you good?" She gave Grace a quick once-over.

Grace grinned, "I'm all good. I won, Angela!"

"Thank God! You had me losing my mind!" Angela hugged her tight, relieved.

"So, spill the tea. How'd you pull it off?" Angela asked, curious.

Grace felt something was off but couldn't put her finger on it.

Sterling had a three in his hand, but he looked super confident. Weird, right?

Maybe a pro player can bluff so well that they psych out their opponent, even with a crappy hand.

Grace checked the cards; they were fresh out of the pack.

She counted them and noticed one was missing.

"What's up, Grace? Something wrong with the cards? Did Sterling pull a fast one?" Angela asked.

Grace shook her head. "Nah, I dealt the cards myself."

She'd been watching like a hawk; Sterling didn't make any moves. If he did, his skills would be next-level!

But why would Sterling mess with the cards if he was about to win?

Grace counted again and realized the missing card was the King of Spades.

'That’s odd. Did it fall somewhere?' she thought.

"Whatever! We won, and we're good. I was losing it. Who is this Mr. Wallace anyway?" Angela still had no clue.

Grace put the cards away and said, "Sterling Wallace."

"What? THE Sterling Wallace?" Angela was floored.

Grace grabbed her hand and the cards. "Let's bounce. You crashing at my place tonight?"

Angela nodded, "Yeah, I got a million questions. How'd you meet Sterling, and what's he doing in Skigeth?"

By the time they got home, it was past 1 AM.

After freshening up, they crashed in bed together.

Angela asked, "So Sterling's here for Xavier, but what's up with that pic? Why was Xavier hugging Stephanie?"

Grace shook her head. "No idea, but I don't think he's like that. Let's just sleep!"

Angela asked, "You not gonna call him?"

Grace said, "He's probably swamped. I'll wait a couple of days."

Grace had texted Xavier that night, but no reply. He must be busy, and she didn't want to bug him.

"True." Angela nodded, snuggling closer. "Your bed's so cozy!"

The next morning, Grace finally got a message from Xavier.

Xavier: [Sorry, was 2 busy last nite 2 chk my phone.]

Grace replied right away.

Grace: [So you pulled another all-nighter!]

Xavier: [Got a lot on my plate.]

With Joseph in hot water, the Park family was losing its grip. The Park Group was massive, and everyone was circling like vultures.

Joseph had always been good to Xavier, so he felt he had to step up and help. Xavier had been up all night, buried in Park Group documents. Plus, he was hunting down whoever poisoned Joseph. Clues pointed to someone inside the company, hungry for power, who had orchestrated the poisoning to push Joseph out.

The future heir of the Park family was supposed to be Stephanie, but with all the drama going on, she might end up with zilch. Joseph was super worried about her.

Grace was about to text back when her phone rang. It was Xavier.

Seeing his name and glancing at the still-snoozing Angela, Grace tiptoed to the living room.

"So, Mr. Montgomery, done with work yet?" Grace asked.

"Still got a ton to do," Xavier's voice came through.

Xavier was in the car, heading to the hospital. Joseph's condition was getting worse.

During the drive, Xavier wanted to hear Grace's voice, so he called her.

"Aren't you gonna ask when I'll be back?" Xavier teased.

Grace was caught off guard. "Can I even ask that?"

"Why not?" Xavier replied.

Taking the hint, Grace asked, "So, when are you coming back?"

"Not sure yet," Xavier said.

"Will you be back for Ryan's wedding?" Grace asked.

Xavier checked the date. Ryan's wedding was in a couple of days, and he probably wouldn't make it.

"Probably not," Xavier admitted.

"That's cool, no biggie," Grace said, trying to sound casual.

It looked like Xavier would be stuck in Oakworth for a while.

Soon, Xavier pulled up at the hospital. Even though they didn't talk much, just hearing Grace's voice eased the pounding in his head.

After hanging up, Xavier grabbed some documents and headed upstairs.

Stephanie, who had been waiting downstairs, saw Xavier hang up with a soft look on his face. Her eyes narrowed.

Xavier was always cold and distant with her, but he could be so gentle with someone else. She was jealous, no doubt.

Seeing Xavier head upstairs, Stephanie rushed to Joseph's ward.

When Xavier walked in, Stephanie was already by Joseph's bed, her eyes red and puffy, looking like she hadn't slept all night.

Seeing Xavier, Stephanie quickly stood up and forced a smile. "Xavier, you're here."

She stood up, her body trembling like she might pass out any second.

"Grandpa still hasn't woken up. I'm so scared," Stephanie said, starting to cry again.

"I've found the person who poisoned him. It's a shareholder in your company. These are some important projects; you should check them out." Xavier handed her the documents.

"Xavier, I haven't slept or eaten all night. I don't want to look at these. Can you have breakfast with me?" Stephanie pleaded.

"I'm not hungry. I'll have someone bring breakfast. Look at these documents. If you need anything, call my assistant," Xavier said.

As for Joseph, Xavier could only talk to the doctors. Staying here wouldn't change anything.

"Are you leaving? Can you stay with me a little longer?" Stephanie started crying again.

Xavier hadn't slept all night either. "You should rest. I'll stay here."

"I'm not tired. I want to stay with Grandpa." Since Xavier was here, Stephanie wouldn't leave.

"Then you stay. I'll come back in the afternoon," Xavier said, turning to leave.

"Xavier, wait..." Stephanie called out.

Xavier had just taken a couple of steps when he heard a thud behind him. Turning around, he saw Stephanie collapsed on the floor.
