Chapter 619 Perhaps a Conspiracy
Grace still couldn't accept that Chase was gone, but she knew that if she kept showing her sadness, it would worry the Coleman family. So, she put on a brave face.
As she turned around, she saw Scott and Angela.
"Hey, Scott. Angela."
Grace handed the urn to Scott. "Scott, I'm trusting you with Grandpa's ashes."
"Grace, don't be sad."
Grace shook her head and forced a smile. "Don't worry, Grandpa would want me to be happy. I'm moving on."
When she was little, she had cried for three hours holding her mother's ashes, while her so-called father, Zach, didn't care at all. He just urged her to place her mother's ashes in the grave quickly.
Zach had a business trip to go on after everything was settled.
He never cared about how Grace felt at that time, nor did he care about Elizabeth.
After burying her mother, Zach left for his trip and didn't return for a week.
Grace spent that week mourning at the cemetery, realizing she no longer had a mother.
Back then, Grace felt she had no family left. But now, even though she had lost her grandpa, she still had her uncles and cousins.
They all cared about her and worried for her, so she couldn't let them be concerned.
They were hurting too, and she couldn't let them take care of her.
"Scott, Angela, you shouldn't be sad either. Grandpa is just with us in a different way. As long as he remains in our hearts, he's always with us."
"I'm going to check on Uncle and Aunt, make sure they're okay too."
Grace had become stronger and was now comforting others.
Since Chase's ashes were to be taken to Aetheria, they would likely leave in the next couple of days.
They asked Grace if she wanted to go back to Aetheria with them, as the funeral was planned to be held there.
Grace definitely wanted to go to Aetheria, but she had planned to finalize her marriage with Xavier the next day.
Grace didn't want to wait any longer; she wanted to marry Xavier.
As soon as Xavier returned, they would go straight to get married the next morning.
She wondered how Xavier was doing. The sky had started to pour, as if the pent-up sadness of the past two days had finally made God cry.
The rain was heavy, and the wind was fierce, almost uprooting the trees.
Xavier had just reached the dock and boarded the yacht.
He was certain that Jared's yacht had already set sail. If he didn't chase after it immediately, Jared might escape.
According to their surveillance, a large cruise ship was anchored several miles away, likely Jared's backup.
A helicopter was parked on the top deck of the cruise ship, treating it like a helipad. If Jared reached the cruise ship, he could easily escape by helicopter.
Chasing him would be much harder then, so they couldn't let Jared board that cruise ship.
Despite the heavy rain, Xavier boarded the yacht.
Mason arrived and joined Xavier.
The sea was rough, and the sky was dark, almost as if night had fallen.
Xavier's yacht sped off quickly.
Mason was worried. "Mr. Montgomery, maybe we shouldn't pursue him. The storm is too dangerous. Safety should come first."
Mason knew Xavier wanted to catch Jared, but the extreme weather made it difficult and dangerous.
Xavier looked ahead, but visibility was low. It was indeed dangerous to continue the chase. Risking more lives for Jared wasn't worth it.
The storm showed no signs of letting up, so Xavier decided to turn back and ordered the other yachts to do the same.
This sea connected to other cities and docks. Xavier contacted those cities, instructing them to capture Jared if he tried to dock once the storm subsided.
If Jared escaped by helicopter, it would be harder to catch him, but they could at least track his location.
Xavier feared Jared might use a decoy, sending someone else in the helicopter while he stayed on the cruise ship or escaped by yacht.
For safety, Xavier decided to turn back.
Just then, Mason received a message and exclaimed, "Mr. Montgomery, Jared's yacht seems to be heading this way. Maybe the storm is too much for him, and he's trying to dock."
"Let me see." Xavier took the tablet and looked at the satellite tracking.
Jared's large cruise ship was indeed heading towards the dock.
If Jared really brought the cruise ship back, it would be a perfect opportunity to catch him!
Mason knew Xavier was ready to act, as the yacht slowed down. Mason understood the urgency.
At the cruise ship's speed, it wouldn't be long before it reached the dock.
"This is a great opportunity for us, Mr. Montgomery. Even God is on our side."
Jared wouldn't be able to escape.
Xavier said, "Don't celebrate too soon. Jared isn't easy to deal with."
Xavier waited for Jared's cruise ship to return, but it stopped about ten miles from the dock.
"Mr. Montgomery, Jared must be stalling, knowing we're here to intercept him."
"As long as the cruise ship stays put, we have a chance. The storm seems to be easing. Send someone to scout the situation. If they see Jared, they don't need to take him alive. But their safety is the priority. If anything seems off, they should retreat immediately."
Xavier couldn't predict Jared's intentions and didn't want to act rashly.
He watched the turbulent sea, his brow furrowed.
Soon, their team reported, "Mr. Montgomery, the cruise ship seems empty. We haven't seen Jared. Should we sneak aboard to check?"
The team consisted of police officers eager to capture Jared.
"No!" Xavier immediately refused. "Don't board or get too close. Just observe. This might be Jared's trap!"
He knew Jared too well. Jared wouldn't give up easily.
The calmer it seemed, the more likely it was a trap.
But some officers felt it was too good an opportunity to pass up. One of them said, "Craig, let me go. I'm trained and won't be detected."
