Chapter 306 You Were This Eager to Marry Me

"Kelly, you got hitched and didn't even give me a heads-up? If your buddy hadn't spilled the beans, we'd still be in the dark!"

"Seriously, Kelly! We raised you, and now you act like we don't exist?"

The ones talking were a middle-aged couple, dressed like they just came from a thrift store.

Everyone's eyes were glued to them.

"You..." Kelly clenched her teeth, shooting daggers at Grace.

She wondered, 'So this was the gift Grace mentioned? I can't believe Grace actually...'

"These must be Ryan's folks, right? They look so young, unlike us farm folks. And this is Ryan? What a looker." Kelly's mom, Julia Long, walked over, her eyes practically twinkling.

Amy, being loaded, couldn't stand people who looked scruffy and rude.

Plus, the grins on Kelly's parents' faces made her skin crawl; it was clear they were dirt poor.

Amy wanted to be anywhere but near them, but they kept inching closer.

Right then, Grace piped up from the crowd, "Kelly, you got married and didn't even tell your folks? I thought they knew, so I called to say congrats."

Grace went on, "Since you're pregnant and all, shouldn't the baby daddy be at the wedding?"

Grace's words, though they sounded reasonable, had a snarky edge.

Only Kelly got that when Grace said "baby daddy," she wasn't talking about her own dad but the father of the baby in her belly.

"Grace!" Kelly's face went even paler. Worried about what Grace might blurt out next, she quickly cut in, "This is my family business. Today’s my wedding. You're just a guest. What gives you the right to talk?"

Grace smirked, "As an old friend, isn't it cool for me to give you a gift? But I got an even bigger surprise. Wonder if you can handle it."

Grace was clearly warning Kelly that her time was running out. Kelly had already stalled too long.

Grace, who used to be tight with Kelly, knew what kind of people Kelly's parents were. They didn't care much for their daughter, always greedy and scheming.

Kelly's parents lived in a dump and rarely went online, so they had no clue about Kelly's life.

Now that they knew Kelly had married into money, they wouldn't let her off easy.

Their presence would definitely gross out the Montgomery family, making Kelly's life a nightmare.

Grace was definitely giving Kelly a major headache.

Julia said, "Kelly, the wedding's started, right? Let's get on with it. As your parents, should we stand by you or with Ryan's folks?"

Julia and Kelly's dad, Samuel Simmons, had worn-out smiles. Years of hard work had left them old and tanned, with clothes that were practically falling apart from too many washes.

Amy couldn't help but think Julia and Samuel were filthy, crawling with germs. She was scared just being near them would make her sick.

But with so many guests around and at the wedding, the rich folks' dignity couldn't take a hit. Amy could only glare at Kelly viciously when she turned her back.

The wedding kept rolling, but you could cut the tension with a knife. The Montgomery family looked like they wanted to be anywhere but there, while Grace was having the time of her life.

Grace noticed the Montgomery clan giving her the stink eye. She figured they all hated her guts, but she couldn't care less. Still, their glares were getting on her nerves, so she decided to bounce.

"Let's roll, Angela. Show's over. Time to make our exit," Grace said.

Angela was right by her side. Grace grabbed her hand and started to leave.

Once they were away from the wedding chaos, Grace said, "Their family is so picture-perfect. Hope they can keep it together. When I tie the knot, I'll definitely invite them to show them what a real happy marriage looks like!"

"So, you're looking forward to marrying me?" a familiar voice whispered in her ear. Grace froze, her heart skipping a beat. She looked up and saw Xavier, the guy she couldn't stop thinking about.

"Xavier!" Grace was in shock, like she was dreaming.

She thought, 'Wait, wasn't I holding Angela's hand? How did it turn into Xavier's?'

She looked down and realized the hand she was holding had grown much bigger. She'd been holding it the whole time and hadn't even noticed!

Xavier was supposed to be in Oakworth. He'd said he wouldn't come back for Ryan's wedding. His sudden appearance was a total curveball for Grace.

No wonder the Montgomery family was staring at her like that. They weren't looking at her—they were looking at Xavier!

"When did you get back? Why didn't you tell me?" Grace asked, noticing the dark circles under Xavier's eyes. He looked beat.

Xavier just looked at her.

"Did you finish your work in Oakworth?" Grace asked.

Xavier shook his head. "Nope."

He'd come back on a whim.

Grace said, "Ryan's wedding isn't a big deal. Why rush back? You should've taken this time to rest."

Clearly, Xavier was the one who hadn't rested, but it was Grace who was fussing. Seeing Xavier so worn out, Grace understood why the DG Group was such a powerhouse.

Xavier's lips parted slightly, his eyes full of emotion. "I missed you."

Grace had a million things to say, but Xavier's words made everything else fade away. He didn't come back for Ryan's wedding; he came back for her!

"You... you..." Grace's eyes widened, clear and a bit shy.

In the past few days, Xavier had realized his feelings for Grace were deeper than he'd thought.

He'd worked through the night until this morning, cranking out more work, and had Mason book a last-minute flight.

After getting off the plane, he came straight here. In the crowd, he spotted Grace immediately.

Though her made-up appearance wasn't particularly striking, it nevertheless caught Xavier's eye right away.

Unable to hold back any longer, Xavier wrapped his arm around Grace's waist, pulling her close. Then, he bent down and kissed her.

Grace's eyes widened, enduring Xavier's not-so-gentle kiss.

She thought, 'This is in public, Xavier!'
