Chapter 62 A Big Hand Gripped Her Neck

Upon hearing Grace's name, Xavier's pupils contracted, emitting an icy coldness.
"What did they talk about?" His voice was chilling.
The subordinate shook his head. "It's been too long so that we couldn't find out. However, based on some surveillance footage from a distance and the recollections of some witnesses at the time, it seems that they were arguing."
Xavier clenched his fist, the veins bulging on the back of his hand.
If someone were to put their head near him right now, they would probably get punched by Xavier.
The Lewis and Montgomery families once shared a cordial bond. Xavier was aware of the Lewis family's involvement in the tragic fate of his mother. Amid these transgressors, he pondered the part played by Grace's mother.
He couldn't help but question: What transpired between his mother and Evelyn that led to her untimely demise?
It was also a reminder that Grace was the daughter of a murderer!
On the desk, there was also a bottle of perfume, which was a gift from Grace.
Xavier picked up the perfume, ready to smash it, but he held it in his hand and raised it for a while without breaking it.
"Get out!"
"Yes." They all knew that Mr. Montgomery was very angry now, so they ran away quickly to avoid being implicated.
This time, when Xavier returned, he had no plans to spare the Lewis family either.
Originally, he and Grace would never have crossed paths.
But now, the image of Grace appeared in his mind.
Grace was different from the people of the Lewis family.
Grace had strong emotions and couldn't be swayed by money. She was actually very passionate and willing to make an effort for things she wanted to do, even if there were many unknown difficulties ahead.
Grace was also different from the kind of person who would take advantage of opportunities to achieve her goals; otherwise, she could have used Xavier or her beauty.
However, Grace was that person's daughter.
Why did it have to be Grace?
The wine cellar of the Bameran villa was filled with many rare and hard-to-find wines.
Xavier, wrestling with his thoughts, uncorked several premium bottles of wine and consumed them with the abandon of someone drinking water.
At times, a high tolerance for alcohol felt more like a curse. No matter how much he drank, intoxication eluded him. Paradoxically, with each glass, his mind seemed to clear even more.
Late at night, Grace couldn't fall asleep.
Her brand would make its debut in two days. She had been doing final checks these past few days to ensure that everything would go smoothly.
She was still on the phone with Angela, saying, "Grace, don't worry. The online promotion you did is going well, isn't it?"
"I'm still a bit worried." She felt uneasy in her heart, knowing that something was about to happen.
She didn't think her brand's debut and the opening of her new store would go so smoothly.
"There's nothing to worry about. I've tried all of your fragrances, and they are all excellent with unique scents. Trust me, you will definitely make your brand known!" Angela assured.
"Thank you, Angela."
"I'll be there to support you. I'll also ask Omari to come. Since their company has so many employees, let Omari bring a bottle for each person. It will be a huge success!" Angela suggested.
"Don't worry, I appreciate your support, but I still want to rely on myself and the reputation of my products to gain everyone's approval," Grace responded.
"I understand, but on your grand opening day, Omari will come. Let him have some fun. You should welcome him, right?" Angela suggested again.
"Of course, I definitely welcome him!"
"That's wonderful. Don't dwell on things too much, Grace. You need to rest. You've been working so tirelessly. In the next few days, prioritize your rest, get plenty of sleep, and ensure you're in peak condition to greet what's ahead!" Angela said with encouragement.
"I'm aware, truly. You're always looking out for me, Angela. You're the best!"
Their conversation was abruptly interrupted by the insistent ring of the doorbell, a sound so loud that even Angela could hear it through the phone. "Grace, who could that be at your door at this late hour?" she inquired with concern.
Seeing Grace getting up, Angela quickly warned, "Grace, please don't go and answer the door. What if it's a bad person?"
"I know, I'll just take a look through the surveillance," Grace assured.
Ever since the incident with Tom's harassment, Grace has installed a surveillance camera at her doorstep. This way, she can see the situation outside her house, which provides an extra layer of security for herself.
However, as Grace opened the surveillance feed and saw the person at the door, her eyes lit up.
"I won't tell you for now, Angela. Goodnight!"
"Hey, hey, who is it? Who is it?" Angela became extremely curious. Who could make Grace ignore her like that?
The less she knew, the more curious she became.
If it weren't so late, she would definitely run over and see who it was, a man or a woman!
Without hesitating, Grace opened the door. "Xavier, how did you know this is my house? What do you want from me?"
Before Grace could finish her sentence, Xavier immediately collapsed onto her, his tall figure pressing onto her. An intense alcohol scent filled the air. How much had Xavier been drinking?
Xavier was heavy, and Grace looked behind him, but there was no one else. She had no choice but to let him in.
Closing the door, Xavier pushed her against it. Her back hit the cold and hard surface, causing Grace to feel pain.
The next second, his large hand directly grasped her neck.
The feeling of suffocation came over Grace, and her breathing became difficult. Within a few seconds, her face turned red from holding her breath.
"Xavier!" she called out his name.
What happened to Xavier? She hadn't seen him recently, and she couldn't think of anything that might have offended him.
The strong hand on her neck loosened its grip, and Grace could finally breathe again. Her teary eyes showed the discomfort she had experienced, making her look pitiful.
In the next moment, Xavier released his hand, and Grace leaned against the door, taking deep breaths.
Grace trusted Xavier so much that when she saw him on the surveillance footage, she didn't hesitate to open the door for him.
Could this really be Xavier? Grace found it hard to believe.
"Get out!"
All she saw was the cold and distant side of Xavier, and it seemed like the first time she had seen him so irritable and angry.
Here was her home; where else could she go?
"What happened? Why did you come to me so late? It must be for a good reason, or else shall I accompany you for a few drinks?"
In her eyes, Xavier was someone who could easily control his temper. Seeing him like this, something big must have happened.
"Get out!" Xavier covered his forehead, looking very uncomfortable.
Grace quickly left and went to the room where she worked. She took out a bottle of perfume and sprayed it into the air.
It was a calming perfume that she had been studying, hoping that its scent could have a soothing effect on the mind.
Grace believed that fragrances could have different effects on the body, not just being limited to various smells.
Xavier walked over and sat on the sofa, still looking very uncomfortable as he leaned against it.
After a while, he calmed down, and only then did Grace dare to approach him.
Seeing Xavier leaning on the sofa, still furrowing his brows, Grace reached out her finger and gently pressed it against his temple, hoping to make him feel better.
