Chapter 600 Hand Reaches Into Her Quilt

"Do I know you from somewhere?" Caden asked, squinting at Scott. He looked familiar, like they'd met before.

Caden suddenly remembered. "Oh, right! At Edith's wedding! You're her friend, right? Nice to see you again."

Scott, however, remained aloof, his gaze fixed on Angela.

Friend? Well, they hadn't exactly clarified their relationship to Caden last time.

Angela nudged Scott. "Caden's trying to shake your hand. Why are you acting so cold?"

"We're not friends," Scott replied flatly.

Angela was taken aback. What did Scott mean by that? Sure, their relationship was complicated, but not even friends?

"Hey, you're making this awkward for me," Angela whispered, leaning closer to Scott.

Scott pulled her aside, his hand resting on her shoulder. "Why don't you tell him what our relationship really is?"

Angela fell silent. What was Scott getting at? They didn't have any relationship, did they? And why did he seem so upset?

Angela forced a smile. "My friend here is just a bit off. He's my friend."

"Give me your bag," Scott demanded, holding out his hand to Angela.

Angela looked at him, puzzled. "Why do you want my bag?"

Despite her confusion, Angela handed over her bag. There wasn't much in it anyway.

Scott rummaged through it and pulled out a piece of paper, unfolding it in front of Caden. "I'll let this speak for itself."

Caden's eyes widened as he read the document. He looked at Angela in disbelief. "You... Angela, you're married?"

"I... yes!" Angela stammered, shocked that Scott had pulled out a copy of their marriage certificate.

Angela had made several copies for convenience when the Turner family was causing trouble, handing them out to everyone. She'd just tossed one into her bag, never expecting Scott to pull it out.

And wasn't Scott against making their relationship public? What was he doing now?

"When did you get married? Why didn't you tell me before?" Caden asked.

"I was trying to keep it low-key. I didn't get a chance to tell you," Angela explained.

Caden glanced at their hands. "Then why aren't you wearing wedding rings?"

Angela thought quickly. "We haven't had the wedding ceremony yet. We'll get the rings then."

Scott added, "We'll send you an invitation when the wedding happens."

Caden fell silent.

"If there's nothing else, Caden, I'll be heading back. Take care," Angela said, as Scott pulled her away.

As they left, Scott reached back and took the copy of the marriage certificate from Caden.

Caden was left standing there, stunned that all his friends were getting married, even Angela.

Scott led Angela to the car, and as he settled into the driver's seat, Angela asked, "Why did you suddenly pull that out?"

Scott replied, "What, are you afraid of him knowing about us?"

"Why would I be afraid? I don't want to cause you any trouble," Angela said, genuinely unconcerned but puzzled by Scott's behavior. He seemed upset.

"How'd you know I was here?" Angela asked.

Scott's voice was a bit hoarse, probably from a cold. He coughed and said, "I was just passing by."

"Really? Just passing by?" Angela was skeptical but didn't push it.

"Why don't you take me home?" she suggested.

After last night's events, Angela felt awkward about sharing a room with Scott.

"No way. What if your mom is still waiting outside your house?"

"I can handle it," Angela insisted.

"And if she gets physical? Are you gonna fight her?"

"She wouldn't wait for me every day, would she?"

Scott didn't respond, just drove them back to the Coleman family home.

On the way, Angela occasionally heard Scott coughing. He seemed to have caught a cold.

"Are you feeling okay?" Angela asked, touching Scott's forehead. His temperature felt normal, but his forehead was a bit cool, probably from being outside.

"I'm fine," Scott said, though he had felt a bit under the weather since the previous night.

"Do we have any medicine at home?" Angela asked.

Scott wasn't sure. Angela said, "Wait here for a moment."

She ran outside and returned shortly with a box of cold medicine.

"Let's go back and make you a cup," she said.

Back at the Coleman Villa, Angela prepared the medicine and handed it to Scott.

"Drink up."

Scott took the medicine and drank it.

Soon after, Scott went to his room and called Angela in.

"What is it?" Angela asked, unsure of what Scott wanted.

Scott seemed hesitant, like he had something to say but couldn't find the words.

"Just say it," Angela urged.

"Give me your hand," Scott said.

Angela extended her hand, palm up. "What are you giving me?"

Scott, with a ring hidden behind his back, didn't know how to present it.

"Never mind," he said, backing out.

Angela was confused. What was going on with Scott?

Scott left the room, his face flushed with embarrassment. He didn't have the courage to give Angela the ring. What if she refused?

He decided to think of another way.

Later that night, Angela lay in bed, exhausted from the previous night's lack of sleep. But it was already ten o'clock, and Scott still hadn't come to bed.

Angela wondered what Scott was up to. By midnight, he still hadn't shown up.

Maybe he was sleeping in another room and feeling awkward about last night.

Angela's mind raced with thoughts until she heard the door open. She quickly closed her eyes, pretending to be asleep.

Scott crept into the room, unsure if Angela was really asleep. He coughed softly, then paused, seeing no reaction from Angela. He continued to move quietly.

Angela, with only her head peeking out from the covers, felt Scott lift a corner of the blanket. He seemed to be reaching for her hand.

Angela, pretending to sleep, was panicking inside. What was Scott doing? Why was he touching her?
