Chapter 606 The Gun Pointed at Xavier's Head
"That's her problem. What's it got to do with me?" Xavier asked, his voice icy.
Jared chuckled. "Xavier, you're still as heartless as ever. She saved your life, and you don't care at all?"
"I paid her back last time," Xavier replied, still indifferent.
"If I kill her, then she dies because of you. Can you and Grace really sleep soundly at night?" Jared continued, trying to manipulate Xavier.
But Xavier wasn't swayed. "You're the one killing her. What does that have to do with me or Grace? This is on you. Are you really gonna pin it on someone else?"
Jared hadn't expected Xavier to be so difficult, completely impervious to his tactics.
But it didn't matter. If Xavier wouldn't budge, Grace certainly wasn't as cold-hearted.
"She'll still die because of you. Even if you don't care, do you think Grace won't?"
Xavier remained unmoved, even Jared's provocations had no effect on him.
Xavier pulled out a gun and placed it on the table beside him. "How about I give you a choice? Hand over the antidote, or I kill you right now. Think it over, Mr. Peterson."
A flash of malice and regret crossed Jared's eyes. Leaving Xavier alive seemed to have been a mistake.
He glanced at the gun, realizing Xavier might actually have bullets in it.
"If you kill me, you won't get the antidote. Chase will die, and do you think the Coleman family will let you off? Do you think Grace will stay with you?" Jared said, watching Xavier's expression closely.
Xavier sneered, quickly loading the gun and pointing it at Jared's temple with fluid precision.
"You worry too much. You won't see any of that. Better start worrying about your life in hell."
Seeing Xavier's demeanor, as if he really would pull the trigger, Jared's expression faltered.
Xavier was known for his ruthlessness. Otherwise, he wouldn't have built such a successful empire from nothing.
Even if there were an antidote, Chase wouldn't live long. Killing Jared now to eliminate future threats wasn't out of the question.
With Xavier's capabilities, he could kill Jared and cover it up so well that no one would ever know. He could easily make it look like an accident, rendering Jared's death meaningless.
If Jared had to die, he would make sure Xavier and the Coleman family went down with him.
A look of regret flashed across Jared's face.
"Wait!" he shouted urgently.
"Xavier, I have something else for you. Even if you don't save Brittany, you won't want to miss this."
Jared moved, pulling something from his back pocket.
Xavier's eyes flickered. It was his mother's possession.
"Put the gun down and don't try to take it, or I'll smash it!" Jared threatened, holding the crystal in a ready-to-throw position.
His mother had only left two keepsakes: the hand chain Grace wore and this crystal.
Last time, he tried to get it back from Brittany, but she refused.
Now, the crystal was in Jared's hands.
After his mother died, the Montgomery family deemed her belongings unlucky and burned everything.
Xavier had wanted to keep something, but he was too young. He was held back and could only watch as everything related to his mother turned to ashes.
Ryan had mocked him, calling him a bastard and saying his mother didn't deserve to be part of the Coleman family, so her belongings couldn't be kept.
Even her ashes weren't buried but scattered at sea.
While Xavier was momentarily distracted, Jared quickly untied his bindings and tried to grab the gun from Xavier.
Xavier reached for the crystal, fearing Jared would smash it.
Both men wanted what the other held. Jared let go of the crystal, and as Xavier caught it, Jared snatched the gun from Xavier's hand.
Xavier secured the crystal, and the next second, the gun was pointed at his head.
"Now the gun's in my hand. Let's see how cocky you are now!"
Xavier confirmed the crystal was indeed his mother's and undamaged before looking up at Jared.
Even with a gun pointed at him, Xavier showed no fear, as if he didn't believe Jared would shoot.
Jared said, "Convince Grace to get me what I want, or I'll kill you right now!"
"Then go ahead and shoot."
"Don't think I won't. Grace might not care about Chase, but she cares about you. If I use you to threaten her, she'll give me what I want!"
Xavier showed no fear, even stepping closer, pressing his forehead against the gun's barrel.
"If you dare, go ahead." Xavier wasn't one for idle threats.
He pocketed the crystal, ensuring it was safe.
Then he looked at Jared, ready to take the gun back.
"Don't move! Don't think I won't shoot!" Jared was panicking as Xavier approached.
Seeing Xavier about to grab the gun, Jared fired.
The trigger clicked, but nothing happened.
"What the...?" Jared was stunned.
"It's a fake gun," Xavier said.
He had been bluffing to scare Jared.
That's why he didn't fight Jared for the gun, letting him take it.
"You tricked me!" Jared was furious.
Xavier hadn't tricked him; Jared had taken the bait himself.
Enraged, Jared tried to attack Xavier. He had been hit by Scott earlier and was full of anger. He swung at Xavier, but Xavier quickly pinned him to the ground.
Jared had brute strength but was no match for Xavier. Xavier, young and strong, was skilled in fighting. Jared was subdued in two moves, with Xavier pinning him down, his polished shoe pressing on Jared's neck, grinding his face into the floor.
"Where's the antidote?" Xavier's tone was impatient. He really wanted to kill Jared, but he needed the antidote first.
