Chapter 672 Killer Assassination of Dorian
The killer was lurking nearby, watching Grace leave.
After finishing his cigarette in the shadows, he was supposed to sneak into Dorian's house.
Today was the day he planned to act. Dorian was seriously ill, making it the perfect time to strike.
He was about to complete Hugh's order, and then he could leave Aetheria quickly.
But she was there, motionless, and he hesitated, wavered.
"Hey, Killer!" Another man quietly approached him.
"What are you doing here?" the killer asked, surprised.
It was his subordinate, Zane Delgado, who usually worked under him.
"Hugh sent me to help you out. Seems like he's got some concerns this time. We should wrap this up quick and report back," Zane said.
"Alright."
"Need any help?" Zane asked.
"No."
"So, you gonna take out Dorian now?"
"Go back and wait. I'll handle it myself."
With that, the killer slipped into Dorian's palace.
Moving freely in the palace without being detected was a rare feat, but the killer managed it.
Killing Dorian wasn't that difficult; it didn't even require bloodshed. Dorian was sick and took medicine daily. The killer could simply poison the water and let Dorian drink it.
When Dorian died, no one would know, and no one would suspect the killer.
The killer distracted others, found an opportunity to put the poison in Dorian's water, and watched as the palace servant brought the water into Dorian's room.
As long as Dorian drank it, he wouldn't live much longer.
This was just one of the killer's many tasks, but...
His inner turmoil seemed to grow stronger. If Dorian died, Aetheria would surely fall into chaos. It would be the perfect time to push his people into power, and eventually, they would control Aetheria.
But...
A face appeared in his mind, Grace's face.
What would happen to Grace if Dorian died?
They were so close. Would she be heartbroken, or...
Moreover, Dorian had many things in his possession. If Dorian died...
In the room, the servant brought the medicine and water: "King Dorian, it's time for your medicine."
Dorian propped himself up, took the pills, and put them in his mouth.
He picked up the water, ready to drink it without any suspicion.
At that moment, the door suddenly swung open: "Dorian!"
Just as Dorian brought the cup to his lips, the killer strode in.
"Who are you? How did you get in here? Guards, someone has broken into the king's chamber!" The servant shouted, terrified at the sight of the intruder.
The palace was the most secure place in the country, with an extremely strict security system. Even a bird flying in would be detected.
If someone were to visit, they would be announced first, but this person had come in unannounced.
The killer walked in, and when he reached Dorian, he extended his hand and snatched the water cup from Dorian.
"What are you doing? The king is taking his medicine!" the servant exclaimed.
"Get out!" the killer commanded, his tone icy.
The servant, terrified by the sudden intrusion, hesitated. Dorian spoke up: "You may leave. This is my guest."
With the king's order, the servant left.
Without the water, Dorian had already taken the pills and could only swallow them dry, the bitterness making him frown.
"Mr. Killer, your sudden visit, what is the reason?" Dorian asked, trying to maintain his composure.
The killer replied, "I came to see if Mr. Astor's health has improved."
"Much better," Dorian said, though his face was still pale.
"That's good. But I just saw Ms. Lewis leaving here. It seems Mr. Astor and Ms. Lewis have a good relationship," the killer probed.
Although he didn't know their relationship, a few words could reveal whether Dorian cared about Grace.
"Mr. Killer, you misunderstand. I'm not familiar with her. Ms. Lewis is a good woman who came to see me because she knew I was ill," Dorian lied, trying to protect Grace.
He didn't want anyone to discover their relationship, especially not the dangerous man in front of him. Dorian was worried the killer might target Grace.
"That's good. I had a bit of a disagreement with Ms. Lewis recently. You should know my identity. Ms. Lewis knows too much and doesn't need to stay in this world. I originally wanted to spare her for Mr. Astor's sake, but since you're not familiar with her, I won't be polite."
Hearing this, Dorian's expression visibly panicked.
What had happened between Grace and the killer? Grace had asked about the killer's identity earlier. Now the killer said they had a disagreement. Did Grace offend the killer?
These people were ruthless and wouldn't care about such things. If provoked, it would be a big problem.
"Mr. Killer, Grace is just a woman. If she offended you, it was unintentional. Please don't take it to heart."
"So, what is your relationship with her that you're speaking up for her?" the killer pressed.
"I just said, no relationship."
"If you won't say, I won't ask further. But I can't let it go. I always repay my grudges. Since you're just good friends, you can collect her body."
With that, the killer prepared to leave.
"Wait!" Dorian called out urgently: "Mr. Killer, Grace is very important to me. She's the daughter of a dear friend. I promised to take care of her. If you harm Grace, I will use all my power to fight back and won't let you off!"
At this point, Dorian couldn't care about anything else.
He had dedicated his life to Aetheria and owed Grace too much. He wouldn't allow anyone to harm her.
He was still a king. If he became ruthless, Hugh and his people wouldn't benefit!
