Chapter 321 Xavier is Really Impressive

Just as Kelly was getting all jittery, someone tapped on her car window. She nearly dropped her phone from the shock.

She looked out and saw two cops in uniform. "Ms. Simmons, you're under suspicion for attempted murder. Please come with us."

"I didn't do it! Don't pin this on me!" Kelly was freaked out but quickly pulled herself together.

"We're just investigating for now. Please cooperate," the officer said all official-like.

Kelly had no choice but to step out of the car. Grace wasn't dead, so she was definitely gonna point fingers at her.

But Kelly wasn't too scared. She placed her hand on her belly, where a tiny life was growing. If anything happened to her, the Montgomery family would have her back, so she didn't need to be too afraid.

Kelly headed to the police station, with Patrick tagging along.

Grace didn't hop into her own car but got into Sterling's ride.

Xavier had already hung up the phone. Even though he wasn't in Skigeth, he still had a grip on everything going down there.

Sitting in Sterling's car, Grace was shocked to see him stash away his gun. "Isn't that illegal?"

Carrying a gun without a permit was a big no-no.

But Sterling said, "I got a permit. It's all good."

Grace thought, 'So Sterling always packs heat?'

Considering how she had treated Sterling the last couple of times, he hadn't pulled out his gun and shot her. Should she be grateful?

Grace asked, "Are you and Xavier really that tight? Is your rivalry just for show?"

Hearing this, Sterling's face changed immediately. "Don't lump him in with me. I'm helping you today, cause I lost a pool game at his resort and owed him a favor. All squared up now."

Grace didn't expect Sterling to be a man of his word, but from their past run-ins, he did seem to be.

Grace asked, "But you fired a gun at him. Won't there be any fallout?"

Sterling sneered. "Going to the police station is like a regular thing for me. If they could nail me, wouldn't all my efforts over the years be for nothing?"

Grace went quiet. Sterling really was cocky, making it sound like a badge of honor.

Sterling added, "Besides, he's not dead."

As long as he's not dead, everything could be sorted out. Even if he were dead, it wouldn't be a big deal.

"So when did Xavier start having you tail me?" Grace didn't expect Xavier to be so ahead of the game.

Sterling said, "When you joined the Montgomery Group."

Grace asked, "If I hadn't come out, would you have gone in?"

Sterling shrugged. "More or less."

Grace said, "Xavier is really sharp!"

In Grace's mind, Xavier's image just got even cooler.

Sterling looked at her. "Get it straight! I'm the one who saved you. If it weren't for me, you'd be the one lying on the ground now."

Xavier just said a few words. What's so sharp about that? He could do that too.

Grace said, "So thanks, but Xavier is still more impressive!"

Xavier really was a mastermind, able to control everything from afar and even use his enemy Sterling to do his bidding.

So she had a lot to learn. Even if she didn't know what the future held with Xavier, Grace had already picked up a lot from him.

Sterling looked at Grace beside him. When she mentioned Xavier, her eyes seemed to light up. Xavier was really that great? Could he even compare to him a little bit? Xavier was kinda handsome, but he was extremely handsome!

"Xavier knew there was danger inside but he still let you go in. He really didn't care about your life," Sterling said.

Grace shook her head. "He knew it was risky but had everything planned out. Kelly wanted me dead. If she didn't try today, she would’ve done it later. Better to draw her out now while we're ready than get blindsided later."

Sterling scoffed. Xavier wasn't all that, in his opinion.

Sterling said, "I think you're just crushing on Xavier. My offer still stands. Ditch Xavier and come work for me, and I can give you a lot."

Grace said, "And my answer's still the same. No plans to leave him right now."

Plus, seeing Sterling shoot without a second thought, Grace knew he was dangerous. Sticking around him, she might not even see her end coming. To climb above all the other heirs and get where he was now, he probably had to take out a lot of people. Even if Sterling didn't do it himself, he was involved. Guys like Sterling were scary in their own way.

Sterling said, "I did help you and save your life. Shouldn't you thank me properly?"

Grace said, "That was a favor you owed Xavier, not me. If you want me to owe you, find another chance next time."

Sterling eyed the box Grace was holding. He had no clue what was inside that made her hold it so tight.

"What's inside?" Sterling asked.

Grace's face went stiff. "My mom's ashes."

Sterling was speechless. He didn't expect Grace to be carrying something so heavy.

After that, everyone went quiet.

Grace didn't expect Kelly to actually make a move on her, so she wasn't gonna be nice about it either.

Grace soon got to the police station, where the cops started taking statements and digging into the incident.

Kelly looked pale. She had no idea where this guy came from, but he was the one who fired the shot. Wouldn't that mean it had nothing to do with Grace?

The only one in the dark was Patrick. In his company, there had been a murder and a shooting, yet as the chairman, he had no clue what went down.

Sterling handed over a surveillance video, claiming self-defense.

The video was from the 18th floor of the Montgomery Group's office area. The camera was aimed at the conference room from outside, catching the moment when Grace opened the door.

Patrick was stiff. This was the Montgomery Group's surveillance footage. Not only could Sterling waltz into the Montgomery Group, but he could also snag his company's footage without breaking a sweat. How could Patrick not know that the surveillance footage from the Montgomery Group was so easy to get?

The footage clearly showed James hiding behind the door. After Grace walked in, James raised a knife to kill her. If Sterling hadn't fired in time, Grace might've been stabbed to death. Later, James tried to chase Grace, making Sterling fire the second shot.

Sterling sat there like he was running the show. "What you should be looking into now is his motive and how he got in."

After saying that, Sterling's gaze landed on Patrick, his casual look carrying a heavy weight. "And what about the leaders of this company? Are they in the loop, or are they in on it? Otherwise, how did something this close to fatal happen without anyone knowing? If they really don't know, doesn't that show major flaws and dangers in the company? Shouldn't the company be shut down for a deeper investigation?"
