Chapter 229 Xavier and I Had a Sexual Relationship
"Patrick Montgomery!" Grace called out, her voice firm and unyielding.
"Don't be so despicable!" Her eyes locked onto Patrick's, fearless.
No matter what, she wouldn't marry Ryan. She'd fight the Montgomery family to the end.
"Grace, you're too young and naive. When you're my age, you'll see some things are worth fighting for," Patrick said.
For Patrick, he was determined to achieve his goals, even if it meant using dirty tactics. Otherwise, the Montgomery family couldn't maintain its status as the most powerful and influential family in Skigeth.
Years of hard work had built the Montgomery Group, despite its recent struggles. Patrick was working tirelessly to revive it.
Grace was still a mystery, and only she could reveal the secrets hidden within Evelyn. Evelyn thought changing her name and hiding would keep her safe, but unfortunately it was her wishful thinking.
"So, what do you want from me?" Grace asked, calming down.
There had to be something about her that Patrick wanted, which was why he was pushing her to marry Ryan.
"You're overthinking it. Ryan likes you, and as his father, I want him to be happy," Patrick said, his eyes narrowing with cunning. "Marrying into the Montgomery family is a step up for you, Grace. Take the chance; it won't last forever."
Grace's expression turned cold. She couldn't trust anything Patrick said. She understood his resistance to breaking the engagement because of the marriage contract, but she knew he had a hidden agenda.
Patrick's insistence on her marrying Ryan hinted at something important she had. But Grace couldn't figure out what it was.
"What do you want? Tell me, and I'll give it to you. But I won't marry Ryan," Grace said firmly.
A flicker of something crossed Patrick's eyes. "What do you have that's worth scheming for? Ryan likes you, and that's all there is to it."
"On the wedding day, I'll return your mother's ashes. Grace, time is running out for both of us. Think it over," Patrick said before leaving Grace's studio.
Ryan stayed behind. "Grace, my father means no harm. It's just because I like you, so he..."
"Does your father have a crystal ball? Did he know you'd like me and took my mother's ashes early on?" Grace shot back.
Ryan fell silent. He didn't know the details, but he trusted Patrick had his reasons. Patrick was the person he feared and admired most.
Patrick always found solutions to problems that Ryan couldn't. His motto was clear: the ends justify the means.
"Grace, don't be so hostile. My father has always been good to you. He said he'd return your mother's ashes if you marry me. He has no use for them. You won't lose anything by marrying me," Ryan said.
"Shut up!" Grace yelled. "Get out! Ryan, I'd rather die than marry you!"
Seeing her resolve, Ryan got angry too. "If you don't want to marry me, who do you want? Xavier?"
"You think I don't know about your thing with him? How many times have you two met? Why were you at the bar together last time?" Ryan's voice shook with panic.
Grace felt like a bird slipping through his fingers.
"What does it matter to you? Even if I slept with him, it's none of your business!" Grace shot back.
"You..." Ryan stared at her, trying to figure out if she was lying.
"Did you sleep with him? No way. Xavier being into you is impossible. Are you breaking our engagement to chase someone higher up?" Ryan questioned.
"Even if you like Xavier, he won't like you. Even if you break off our engagement, you can't marry him. Stop daydreaming and marry me!" Ryan insisted.
But his mind was racing. He thought, 'Did Grace and Xavier really have something going on?'
Ryan thought he should talk to Xavier, make him see Grace's true colors. Grace was just using him!
"You're the one dreaming. Xavier is a thousand times better than you!" Grace snapped.
"We're despicable? You think Xavier's a good guy? Even if he likes you, he's just playing you to get back at me." Ryan knew Xavier hated the Montgomery family.
When Xavier left the Montgomery family, he vowed to outshine them.
Grace retorted, "I don't need your advice. Worry about yourself!"
Ryan felt Grace was being unreasonable. She wouldn't listen to anything he said.
After leaving Grace's studio, Ryan told his driver to take him to the Bameran villa. When he got there, Kieran called Xavier, but Xavier didn't care. He kept working until eleven at night before heading to the villa.
Ryan waited at the entrance the whole time. When Xavier finally arrived, Ryan got out of the car with his crutch.
"Xavier, I've been waiting for you," Ryan said, sounding frustrated.
Xavier looked at him coldly. "I didn't ask you to wait."
He checked his watch.
Ryan noticed the watch looked expensive.
Ryan knew he was waiting on his own. Kieran had doubted Xavier would come back, saying he might not return. Not knowing where Xavier worked or what he was doing, Ryan had no choice but to wait at the villa.
"Xavier, I saw Grace today. She said you two slept together?"
A flicker of surprise crossed Xavier's eyes. He wondered, 'Grace, so timid, would she really say that?'
"She said that?"
"Xavier, is it true?" Ryan asked, fists clenched.
Xavier was taller and more imposing than Ryan. In looks and presence, Ryan couldn't compare.
When Xavier looked at him like that, Ryan couldn't meet his gaze.
"What right do you have to question me?" Xavier asked coolly.
"I..." Ryan hesitated. He wanted to say he was Grace's fiancé, but that wasn't true anymore. "I care for Grace. I'm a suitor vying for her affection."
Xavier glanced at him dismissively, said one word without emotion, and walked away.
Hearing that word, Ryan stood there, stunned.
