Chapter 146 A Scene of Great Conflict, Grace Couldn't Bear It
Grace suddenly stood up. "I need to go to the restroom!"
The spot was too conspicuous; she was genuinely afraid of being spotted by Xavier, so she decided to step away for a moment.
Angela watched Grace flee and said to Omari, "Omari, were you too enthusiastic and scared her?"
"Was I?" Omari pondered his behavior. It didn't seem overly enthusiastic; he had been quite restrained.
He didn't have many opportunities to interact with Grace, and he tried to act very naturally.
"Why can't we get a private room? Is there not a single empty one? I don't believe it!" Stephanie was extremely displeased.
When she went out, it was already a concession not to book the entire place, and now there wasn't even a private room available. It seemed quite unreasonable!
"I'm sorry, miss, all our private rooms are reserved. There really are no available spots," the waiter apologized, knowing Stephanie was not someone to be trifled with.
"Didn't you understand what I said? I want a private room today, and I don't care how you do it, but you must make it happen!" Stephanie requested.
"Stephanie!" Xavier called her name. "If you think it's too crowded, then let's go somewhere else."
"No, I've heard this place is really good, and I want to eat here." Stephanie didn't think she was being unreasonable.
She believed that with her status, she could get whatever she wanted. Furthermore, she didn't consider her request to be overly unreasonable—it was simply for a private room.
"The world doesn't always cater to your desires. If you really wanted to dine here, you should have made a reservation half a month ago," Xavier remarked.
"How was I supposed to know? It's just a restaurant. Stop acting so high and mighty!" Stephanie said, preparing to make a call. No matter what, she was going to dine in a private room today.
Xavier rubbed his temples. Although he held a high position, he didn't think the main hall was unacceptable.
It was quite possible that even the main dining area had no available seats.
Xavier's gaze swept around and landed on two familiar faces.
'Omari and Angela? Their table was spacious enough to accommodate a few more people, as they had set three places. It wasn't difficult to surmise who the vacant seat was intended for. Grace, once again, had ignored his words.' He thought to himself.
Xavier's expression grew colder as he walked directly towards Omari.
Seeing Xavier head in that direction, Stephanie quickly followed. "Xavier, where are you going?"
"I didn't anticipate encountering Mr. Turner dining here, too," Xavier said.
Hearing the voice, Omari turned around. "Mr. Montgomery, what a coincidence. Are you dining here too?"
"Yes, but this restaurant is quite popular, and it's hard to get a reservation."
Omari said, "I didn't expect even Mr. Montgomery to have trouble booking a private room."
Xavier replied calmly, "I don't insist on a private room, so there's no need to leverage my influence."
In this situation, Xavier didn't want to pull rank. He didn't see himself as a big shot who needed special treatment; dining was just a minor matter to him.
"In that case, would Mr. Montgomery like to join us?" Out of courtesy, Omari invited Xavier.
Stephanie looked disdainfully at Omari and Angela.
She mocked inwardly, 'Who do they think they are, inviting Xavier to dine with them? Moreover, Xavier dislikes crowds and hates socializing, so he definitely wouldn't agree!'
Stephanie remarked, "No!"
"Sure."
The two voices rang out almost simultaneously, and Stephanie looked at Xavier in disbelief.
She hadn't expected Xavier to agree so readily, without the slightest hesitation.
"Xavier!" Stephanie called his name.
She had never shared a table with others before. Not getting a private room was one thing, but now she had to squeeze in with others.
Omari hadn't expected Xavier to agree; he was merely being polite.
He had finally managed to invite Grace out for a meal today, and now Xavier was joining them. Moreover, he felt a hint of hostility in Xavier's eyes.
"It seems Mr. Montgomery's companion isn't too keen on sharing a table with us," Omari said.
"I'll be with Xavier!" Stephanie quickly responded.
It seemed Xavier was determined to dine with them. If she left, he would end up sitting with another woman.
Stephanie glanced at Angela. She had already investigated these people's backgrounds. Angela seemed to be Grace's friend, and she might also be aiming to marry into a wealthy family.
The waiter soon came over, added two more seats, and brought the menus.
As they sat down, Stephanie exuded disdain, insisting that the waiter thoroughly clean the seats, displaying a level of fussiness akin to that of a queen.
In contrast, Xavier didn't put on any airs. He sat down casually, without a hint of disdain in his eyes, while Stephanie, born with a high-status, was indeed different.
She looked at the menu and ordered all the signature dishes, not caring whether they could finish them.
Angela reminded her, "That's a lot of food; we probably won't be able to finish it."
"Is that all? Do you from Skigeth always clean your plates? If you can't afford it, I'll cover the bill for everyone." A flash of disdain flickered across Stephanie's eyes as she pondered, 'The less fortunate truly remain so.'
When dining alone at home, Stephanie always had a table brimming with food. Being a young lady of privilege, she only needed to nibble a few bites, unconcerned about waste. After all, she had an abundance of wealth!
Angela retorted, "You!"
'What did that mean? Does she think people from Oakworth are more noble and look down on those from smaller cities? Moreover, her lavish lifestyle isn't a result of her own merits; she simply lucked out by being born into wealth.' Angela felt quite irritated.
Compared to wealthy families, there were many ordinary families in the world, some even struggling to eat, and some couldn't afford medical treatment when they were sick.
Skigeth wasn't a small city. In fact, its tourism industry was well-developed, and its technology and industry were quite good. Although it couldn't compare to Oakworth, it was far from insignificant.
"Stephanie!" Xavier's voice carried a warning.
Stephanie pouted, "I'm telling the truth; why are you scolding me?"
Grace washed her hands, lingering in the restroom a tad longer, hoping Xavier would depart with Stephanie. It was only after that she emerged.
Suspecting Xavier must have left, Grace composed herself and put on a smile as she walked over.
But before she got close, she was stunned by the scene.
The table that originally seated three now had two more people. Xavier not only hadn't left, but was seated with them.
The scene left her feeling suffocated, as if she were submerged underwater.
Grace was shocked.
She almost fainted; hiding in the restroom had been a waste of time.
But now it was too late to leave again. Xavier had already looked up, and their eyes met.
Grace had no choice but to walk over with difficulty.
Before she could speak, Xavier's eyes darkened as he said in a low voice, "Aren't you going to greet anyone?"
Grace obediently replied, "Xavier."
