Chapter 631 She Is Shining with Her Own Light
"Ms. Lewis," the lawyer's voice cut through Grace's thoughts, snapping her back to reality.
"Ms. Lewis, we need to go over a few more details."
"Alright," Grace replied, and then she worked with the lawyer to finalize the necessary procedures.
Mason had assured her that this lawyer was one of Xavier's trusted associates, someone who had been with him for years and could be completely relied upon.
The lawyer would handle the transfer and all the paperwork, making everything officially Grace's.
After the lawyer left, Grace stared at the mountain of documents piled on the table. There was so much to deal with.
Mason had also informed Grace about which employees in the company could be trusted. Grace discreetly arranged to meet these individuals at a bar, avoiding Johnny's people.
Once she revealed her identity, many were willing to follow her.
Grace assured them, "I know you all care deeply about DG Group. On behalf of Mr. Montgomery, thank you."
"As long as I'm here, I promise to protect this place. But DG Group is in a tough spot right now, and I need your cooperation to fight through this together. Can I count on you?"
"Ms. Lewis, don't worry. We don't like Johnny either. Mr. Montgomery told us that your words represent his. We'll follow your lead."
However, not everyone was so easily convinced. "If you want us to follow you, you need to prove your capability. Why should we trust you otherwise?"
Grace nodded. "Don't worry, I won't let you down."
After meeting with them, it was already quite late.
Grace hadn't been sleeping well these past few days, and her head was throbbing.
The driver, who was also familiar with Grace from his time with Xavier, asked, "Ms. Lewis, should I take you home to rest?"
Grace shook her head. "No, take me back to the office."
It was already late at night when Grace returned to Xavier's office. She looked at the towering stack of documents, picked up a pile, and started reading.
This workload was far greater than running a small perfume studio.
DG Group's industries were vast and varied, many of which Grace had never encountered before. Reading these documents was a struggle because she didn't understand them.
She had to look up information first before she could comprehend the files. Since these were confidential, she couldn't ask anyone else for help, not even her cousin.
The only person she could trust was Mason, but he was also very busy.
Grace yawned repeatedly. She was exhausted and sleepy but kept pushing through.
She made herself a cup of coffee to stay awake and worked diligently until the early hours, finally collapsing on the desk for a short nap.
When she woke up, it was still dark. Grace quickly resumed reading the documents.
The company's issues were urgent. As she worked, she marveled at how Xavier managed to run such a large company.
The more she worked, the more she missed Xavier. If he were here, he wouldn't have left all this to her.
It took Grace three days to get through all the documents on the desk.
Meanwhile, many people had submitted their project progress reports as she had requested. For those who hadn't, Grace had the HR department notify them that they no longer needed to come to work.
Grace was ruthless, leaving no room for negotiation. This move served as a stern warning to others.
Initially, some thought Grace was bluffing, but when she started firing people without hesitation, they realized she meant business.
Johnny had been itching to teach Grace a lesson, but she had practically moved into the office, eating and sleeping there, leaving him no chance.
He couldn't believe Grace wouldn't leave the office eventually!
When Grace finally stepped out, it was to take a short walk downstairs. Spending too much time in the office wasn't good for her work.
A brief walk to clear her mind was better than staying cooped up.
Johnny had planned to have her kidnapped, thinking she would beg for mercy.
What he didn't expect was that Grace had hired over twenty well-trained bodyguards. They cleared the way in front and protected her from behind, leaving no opportunity for anyone to make a move.
Her security detail was more extensive than that of a major celebrity.
Grace knew there were people who would be unhappy and might try something. She wasn't foolish enough to neglect her safety.
Having suffered too much in the past, she knew it was safer to have more people protecting her.
Johnny was furious, grinding his teeth. That damn Grace!
Grace couldn't stay in the office forever. After two more days of intense work, she had a general understanding of all the company's departments and had reviewed all the projects. She still needed to meet with clients.
DG Group's stock had been plummeting, with some people believing that the company was doomed without Xavier, leading them to sell off their shares and causing panic.
If she didn't stabilize the partnerships, many projects could collapse. So, Grace met with each client personally.
Grace was articulate and composed. Despite just taking over, she quickly grasped everything. During negotiations, she didn't adopt a pleading stance to continue the partnerships.
A strong leader never begged. They demonstrated their capability, not by making humble concessions, but by showcasing their strength.
Many saw a reflection of Xavier in Grace. Despite Xavier's troubles, this new acting president seemed promising.
They wondered why they hadn't heard of such a formidable person before.
Upon investigation, they discovered Grace's identity as the long-lost daughter of the Coleman family.
No wonder Grace was so impressive; she was a Coleman.
Some said, "Ms. Lewis, out of respect for the Coleman family, we can choose to trust you this time."
Grace responded, "I am Grace Lewis, and I have no connection to the Coleman family. If you trust me because of the Coleman family, you will be disappointed. If my incompetence causes losses, the Coleman family won't cover it. If you continue to work with me because of my background, it won't earn you any favor with the Coleman family."
"I hope you trust me as an individual and choose to give our partnership another chance."
After she spoke, the person looked at her with admiration. "Alright, Ms. Lewis, I look forward to our cooperation."
After several days of meetings, Grace was exhausted, her back aching. She grabbed a quick bite to eat and then returned to reviewing documents and meeting with the next client, her schedule packed.
She was so busy that she barely had time to think about him.
She was shining in her own right.
Grace had been practically living at the office, but she called Mason every day to ask if there were any updates on Xavier.
Today was no different.
Mason said, "Ms. Lewis, I have some bad news."
