Chapter 438 The only person in the world who loved her is gone.
Grace looked at Xavier's back, her emotions incredibly complex, yet it felt as if a sun was quietly rising, making her feel warm inside.
Over there, Steven had just finished taking photos and walked over to Grace. "Did someone just talk to you?"
He had been busy with Bella and hadn't noticed Grace.
Grace shook her head. "No, no one."
"Really?"
Grace pursed her lips and pointed over there. "Just someone asking for directions."
Seeing that Steven didn't seem suspicious, Grace breathed a sigh of relief. She hadn't done anything wrong, but she felt a guilty conscience, like a teenager secretly dating behind their parents' backs and getting caught.
But she and Xavier weren't even on a date, nor were they secretly in love!
"Grace, come over here and take a picture with us," Bella called, holding a camera.
Grace ran over and took quite a few photos with Bella.
Bella sent all the photos to Grace, and Grace selected a few to post on Facebook.
Grace was actually quite popular; no one she had worked with had a bad impression of her. Seeing the beautiful photos, many people commented, asking who she was.
Grace didn't reply to those comments; she just wished everyone a Happy New Year.
Robert had recently added Grace as a friend. Seeing her Facebook post, he commented that the person in the pictures looked a bit like Grace.
Grace was silent.
Having hidden it from Robert twice before, Grace now didn't know how to respond.
Robert said, "What's up? Is that your sister or something?"
"That's me with makeup on. Pretty, right?"
Robert replied, clearly shocked.
"That's amazing! If you have that skill, can you do my makeup, too, and make me look more handsome?"
Grace looked at Robert's innocent expression and didn't know how to respond.
Xavier's private jet landed in Skigeth just as it was daytime.
Mason had also come over for some work-related matters with Xavier.
Mason said, "Mr. Montgomery, have you seen Ms. Lewis's Facebook? They seemed to have had a lot of fun yesterday."
Facebook?
Xavier picked up his phone and opened Grace's Facebook, but there was nothing there. Clearly, Xavier had been blocked.
"Let me see," Xavier demanded, reaching for Mason's phone.
Mason handed it over, and Xavier saw Grace's Facebook post with romantic fireworks, a white castle, and selfies of Grace.
The fireworks seemed to be from the night they watched together. He didn't know when Grace had taken the photos, but they looked great.
Grace looked stunning in the photos, and Xavier's heart couldn't help but flutter. He regretted leaving so quickly; he should have stayed a few more days with Grace.
"Send me all these photos," Xavier ordered.
"Okay."
Xavier saved all the photos, smiling so broadly that Mason felt a bit redundant. Xavier was completely lost in his world.
The car drove to a location and then stopped.
They had arrived at their destination. Seeing Xavier unmoved, Mason couldn't help but remind him, "Mr. Montgomery, we're here."
Xavier finally put his phone away and got out of the car.
This was where Steven was holding Stephanie. She had been imprisoned for quite a long time.
The place was dark and damp, which was not a good environment. Stephanie, being of noble status, had probably never stayed in such a place in her life.
Steven was already being polite. If someone else had dared to bully Grace, they might have lost half their life by now.
There were many bodyguards in the basement. It was large, and despite it being daytime, the light was very dim.
Stephanie was confined here, with only a bed and a bathroom.
Her phone had long been taken away. She felt like she had been here for years, not knowing how long she had been imprisoned.
At first, she screamed and shouted, claiming to be the heir of the Park family. She said her family was wealthy and would pay a lot of money if they released her.
Then she demanded to see Xavier and Grace, threatening that once she got out, she would make them pay.
After three days of struggling, Stephanie realized it was all futile. She couldn't get out, and her threats meant nothing to these people.
No one would come to see her; no one would come looking for her.
Xavier had probably forgotten about her, or maybe he wished she would die here so he could be with Grace.
Initially, Stephanie refused to eat the awful food. She had never eaten such things, which were like pet food to her. She was used to being served by several maids during meals. She thought she would rather starve than eat a bite.
But later, driven by hunger, she devoured the food, even eating it cold and finding it delicious.
She had to survive, had to get out. Xavier would surely come to save her!
After an unknown amount of time, Stephanie was on the verge of a mental breakdown. She felt abandoned by the world as if no one cared whether she was alive or dead.
She missed Joseph. If Joseph were alive, he would have come looking for her the moment she went missing.
If Joseph were alive, he wouldn't allow these people to treat her this way. She was the most important person to Joseph, and he would fight these people for her.
Stephanie thought about her past life. Every New Year's Eve, she spent it with Joseph. He would prepare many gifts to make her happy. If she were upset, she would throw a tantrum, and even if she scolded Joseph, he wouldn't get angry.
Joseph was the best person in the world to her. Even if she wanted the stars in the sky, Joseph would get them for her. But now, Joseph was gone.
For the first time, Stephanie felt so lonely. Her only family in the world was gone. She missed Joseph so much. If only he were still alive, no one would dare to bully her. She could throw herself into his arms and tell him all her grievances.
Stephanie had cried countless times in the past few days. She wondered if this was God's punishment for her for failing Joseph. But if Joseph knew, could he let her out, at least let Xavier come to see her?
At that moment, Stephanie heard a noise.
"Mr. Montgomery, please go this way. Mr. Coleman has already given instructions," a bodyguard said, leading Xavier and Mason over.
Hearing the noise, Stephanie ran to the door. Through the iron bars, she saw Xavier outside.
It must have been Joseph who heard her cries. Seeing Xavier, Stephanie felt like the world had lit up.
