Chapter 047 He Had It Coming
Tom and his cohort were hauled into the police car, and at this point, he was clueless about the videos of his arrest flooding the internet.
It wasn't until they reached the police station that the officers asked them to get in touch with their family members. Tom thought that he couldn't let Laura find out about this debacle. So, he called Laura and lied that he was on a business trip, asking his secretary to come bail him out.
However, as soon as he turned on his phone, he saw several missed calls from Laura. Before he had a chance to call her back, he received a video from an unknown number. The footage was shocking. It displayed a scene from last night’s events, with Tom pinned down by two guys.
Tom didn't even have time to delete the video before another message came through from the same number.
Unknown: [You know what to do.]
He guessed that this had to be Xavier’s doing!
Tom was petrified, and right then, Laura's incoming call lit up the screen. He hesitated for a moment and then answered, "Hey Honey, I'm on a business trip, won't be back for a few days."
"A business trip? You're taking business trips to the police station now?" Laura's voice came through just as Tom was eyeing a woman approaching. The phone slipped from his trembling hands and clattered to the floor, sliding right in front of Laura.
The video was still playing, and Laura picked up the phone, seeing everything crystal clear. The more she watched, the angrier she became.
"Honey, let me explain... it's not what it looks like..." Tom stammered.
But Laura walked straight up to him, lifted her hand, and slapped him across the face. "Tom, I could tolerate your philandering ways, but you're into men too?"
"I'm not..." Tom tried to defend himself.
"No more excuses!" Laura grabbed Tom's head and started hitting him, and not even the police officers nearby could hold her back.
Tom was fed up, but he couldn't be without Laura; without her, he had nothing.
"You've disgraced the Yule family name; how did I ever end up with a man like you?" she said, furiously.
Tom dropped to his knees and wrapped his arms around her legs. "Honey, please, help me this one time, I swear I'll never do it again, please save me," he begged.
Despite her fury, Laura knew that the family's reputation was at stake. Furthermore, the incident needed to be hushed up, especially with Kaleb's promotion hanging in the balance.
After hitting him, she contacted the police to see if there was any way to settle the matter out of court. After all, it was just a case of a few guys drinking too much.
"It's not up to us," the officer said. "If it were just a case of public indecency, a simple detention would suffice. But now, someone's accused him of attempted rape."
"What?" Laura glared at Tom. "What the hell actually happened?"
Tom had no choice but to recount the whole incident. "I really didn't lay a hand on her, that woman is so ugly, last time she tricked me," he insisted.
Laura was furious. She ended up giving Tom a good thrashing before going to sort out his mess for him.
After Grace called the police, she got busy preparing to conduct market research, looking into mall locations, and things like rent.
Angela was beside her, scrolling through her phone, reporting the situation to Omari.
Suddenly, she came across a video of Tom online, so she quickly showed it to Grace. "Grace, look, isn't this the guy who was discussing a partnership with the Lewis Group? He's caught in an orgy with several guys!"
"Who?" Grace, hearing Angela's words, put down her work and leaned in closer.
Then she saw on the screen, Tom's face. And the repulsive scene from last night with those men, Grace couldn't forget.
The media coverage was detailed, showing on the Twitter home page, about these men in a hotel orgy, with the police arriving to find the room in a disgusting state, even their clothes were off.
"These people, how did they end up like that..." Grace couldn't believe it.
Could it be that these men engaged with one another? Was this Xavier's doing? Grace stared blankly at the screen, so sometimes Xavier was a good person!
"Grace, Grace!" Angela's hand waved in front of Grace's face. "What are you zoning out about?"
Grace shook her head, saying, "Nothing, they got what they deserved, every one of them."
"Yeah, they're all scum, they should be locked up for life!" Angela said with anger.
After handing the phone back to Angela, Grace continued looking at addresses. She had already shortlisted several and still had to inspect each of them in person.
The incident didn't impact Grace too much, but she surely wouldn't be soft-hearted when it came to reporting the crime.
For the next two days, Grace was busy selecting a storefront. She had high standards for various aspects of her project, making the choice difficult. She still had some money on hand, enough to last for a while.
That day, Grace got home early at six in the evening for the first time, as she had been arriving at midnight and leaving again at six in the morning the previous two days.
Feeling slightly exhausted, Grace planned to take a shower and go straight to bed for a good sleep!
However, just as she stepped out of the elevator, someone sprang out at her, giving Grace quite a scare.
Tom, on his knees, pleaded in front of Grace. "Ms. Lewis, I'm sorry, last time I was foolish, it wasn't my idea, someone wanted me to teach you a lesson. Ms. Lewis, can you please forgive me?"
Tom's face was swollen, making him almost unrecognizable to Grace.
"Tom?" Grace tried to confirm.
Hadn't Tom been arrested? How had he been released so quickly?
"You just said someone put you up to this, right?" Grace pulled out her smartphone and opened the camera app. "Go on, repeat what you just said. I'm recording this time since you managed to destroy the last evidence. Who told you to do this?"
Tom confessed, "It was Kelly. Kelly told me to do it. She said she's Ryan's future wife, that as long as I helped her, she would pay me and facilitate a deal with Montgomery Group."
"You believed her just because she said she was Ryan's future wife?" Grace scoffed.
"At first, of course, I didn't believe her, but when I saw how Ryan always listened to what she told him to, I started to believe..." he answered.
Tom was on the ground, bowing his head. "I was just confused for a moment when I did that. In the end, those people didn't harm you. Ms. Lewis, you're generous. Please forgive me. Can't you just not press charges?"
The charge of assault was too serious. Laura and Kaleb both said, if this isn't settled properly, it's going to end up with a divorce!
Divorce was certainly not an option for Tom.
Grace got what she wanted, so she turned off the camera and returned to the elevator. "I can't withdraw the charges, and if you don't leave or bother me again, I'll call the police!" she stated, firmly.
