Chapter 384 Xavier, You're Hurting Me.
Colin and Dominic helped Xavier stumble back home.
They knew the place well; it was Xavier's usual crash pad.
There were a bunch of ways to unlock the door. They just scanned Xavier's face, and it clicked open. They got him inside.
They even plopped him onto the big bed, tossed a blanket over him, and then took off.
They left in a hurry, but someone else snuck in afterward.
Stephanie had been tailing them. Once Colin and the others were gone, she finally dared to show up.
When they brought Xavier in, they didn't bother closing the door, so Stephanie slipped in and hid.
Hearing the door shut, Stephanie flicked on the living room light and stepped out.
Her heart was racing. She walked into the bedroom and saw Xavier sprawled on the bed.
Xavier was hammered and hadn't slept for days. His mind was foggy, and he looked out cold.
Stephanie stared at Xavier, totally smitten. She went over and softly called his name. "Xavier, I love you so much."
Seeing no reaction from Xavier, she got even bolder. Her eyes were filled with obsession.
He had no idea how much she had given up to be with him. She had lost her only family.
She had sacrificed everything for Xavier, and now it seemed worth it.
Maybe this was fate giving her a shot. With Xavier drunk, if she slept with him, he'd have to take responsibility.
Stephanie also craved him physically, longing for the feel of his strong body against hers.
Stephanie's hands went straight for Xavier's clothes. His suit jacket had been tossed aside by Colin and the others. Xavier was just in a white shirt and pants. She stared at his pants, her cheeks flushing, and her hand shook with excitement as she reached out.
Just as she touched Xavier's belt, her hand was suddenly grabbed with such force it felt like her wrist would snap.
"Xavier, you're hurting me," Stephanie yelped.
"Get out!" Xavier barked.
Xavier, still with his eyes closed, reacted on instinct. Even drunk, his reflexes were sharper than most.
"Xavier, you're drunk. Let me take care of you, okay? You should sleep. I just want to help you get more comfortable," Stephanie softened her voice. "Xavier, just think of me as Grace. I don't mind being her stand-in."
"Grace, Grace," Xavier murmured Grace's name, his tone and voice completely different. His voice was filled with love and tenderness, as if her name was a prayer.
This tone made Stephanie insanely jealous.
"Yes, I am Grace. I am your Grace," Stephanie didn't care anymore. She was all in.
"Grace." Xavier's brow furrowed, and his grip on Stephanie's hand loosened, probably afraid of hurting his Grace.
Stephanie slowly leaned down, trying to get close to Xavier. Her hand slowly moved down to rest on his chest.
Her voice was sultry, her expression even more pleading, "You haven't been close to me for so long. Do you not love me anymore? I need you, Xavier."
Xavier's eyes snapped open, and he shoved Stephanie away with great force.
Caught off guard, Stephanie hit the floor hard.
She couldn't wrap her head around why Xavier, who seemed fine a second ago, suddenly flipped like that.
Stephanie scrambled to her feet, and Xavier, now with his eyes open, stared at her with a coldness that made her skin crawl.
"Xavier..." Stephanie stammered, looking at him in horror. She hadn't expected him to be so alert even when drunk.
"What are you doing here? Get out!" Xavier's voice was icy cold again.
Xavier had regained some clarity. He looked at Stephanie with indifference, his eyes filled with disgust.
"I wanted to take care of you. You were drunk, and I was worried," Stephanie said, unsure if Xavier was fully sober. She even tried to get closer, "Xavier, you can think of me as anyone. I don't mind. I just want to be by your side when you need me."
"Get out!" Xavier's brow twitched like a needle was poking inside.
His vision was blurry, and he couldn't clearly see who it was, but he knew it wasn't Grace.
Grace had a distinct, clean scent, even with perfume. Stephanie's perfume was cheap and cloying.
He had been intimate with Grace enough to know the difference. His body knew.
He only had no resistance to Grace, while with others, Xavier would react immediately.
"Xavier..." Stephanie tried to say more, but Xavier had already picked up the phone and called security.
When security arrived, Stephanie finally left.
After the commotion, Xavier sobered up quite a bit, but his stomach felt like it was on fire.
He went to the bathroom and threw up for a while before sitting on the floor.
As his mind gradually cleared, Xavier's eyes regained their sharpness.
It felt like a needle was stirring in his brain, causing pain throughout his body. Xavier got up from the floor and started walking outside.
Since the incident, Xavier hadn't returned here. This place held too many memories.
He was scared, scared that these memories were finite, and the more he came, the more they would slowly fade away.
Since Grace came to Oakworth, she had been living with him. These past two months had been some of the happiest times in Xavier's life.
There were too many memories of him and Grace here. Originally, this place was just somewhere he crashed when he worked late. It had nothing, not even looking like someone lived there, as simple as a model home.
But Grace had bought many decorations, making the place better and cozier.
The roses on the table were gradually wilting. Grace had placed them there the day before she left.
The sofa and balcony over there still held traces of his intimacy with Grace.
Since childhood, he had felt that God had treated him so unfairly. Why had he been brought into this world? Why was he born into such a family? Why was his mother taken from him?
When Grace had come into his life, he thought she was a gift, a window opened after so many doors had been slammed shut. A glimpse of a brighter world.
Now he realized it was just a cruel joke from God, a brief moment of happiness in his world.
Xavier carefully touched the nearly withered roses and suddenly knelt on the ground.
He missed Grace, terribly.
