Chapter 230 You Are Not Worthy
"Yeah, it's true." Xavier's casual tone hit Ryan like a ton of bricks. A chill ran down his spine.
Ryan thought, 'When did Xavier and Grace start?'
How could this even happen? Ryan had seen the signs but never thought Xavier would fall for Grace. She was his fiancée, Xavier's junior's fiancée. How could Xavier do this?
Before Ryan could react, Xavier was gone. He chased after him, shouting, "When did this start? Did Grace stay with you at the lodge?"
Feeling betrayed, Ryan cursed inwardly, 'Grace, you can't live without a man, huh? Can't have me, so you go to Xavier?'
Xavier ignored him, but Ryan pressed on, "Why? Is this payback? I bullied you as a kid, so you do this? You knew Grace was going to marry me, so you slept with her first?"
Ryan was sure this was all part of Xavier's revenge.
Xavier stopped, his cold eyes locking onto Ryan. "You're overthinking it. What happens between Grace and me has nothing to do with you."
For Xavier, it was all about physical attraction, not because she was Ryan's fiancée.
If Xavier were truly out for revenge against Ryan, he would never resort to such a petty tactic.
"Impossible! Grace is just a fling, right? You have so many women; she's just one of them, isn't she?" Ryan tightened his grip on his phone, secretly recording.
Xavier's eyes darkened, clearly annoyed.
Ryan pushed further, "Is it because Grace looks conservative but is actually wild? She must have seduced you. You two have been sleeping together behind my back, and she still pretends to be pure in front of me."
"You must have enjoyed being with my fiancée. If you can sleep with her, why can't I?" As soon as Ryan finished, Xavier's fist landed on him.
Xavier's punch was strong, and with Ryan's injured leg, he hit the ground, clutching his eye.
Xavier looked down at him, "Corrupt minds breed corrupt intentions. I don't usually resort to violence unless provoked."
Ryan stayed down, retorting, "Xavier, you're so agitated. Did I hit a nerve?"
Xavier's gaze narrowed, his voice cold, "You're not worth my time."
"Did Grace seduce you on purpose? She originally liked me. She saw me with Kelly and my other mistresses, so she went to you. You're just a substitute for me," Ryan said.
Xavier chuckled, "I wouldn't even consider you as my substitute. Ryan, you're my nephew, so here's the truth: Grace never liked you, and you never had her."
"You just got lucky being born rich. Without that, you're nothing," Xavier's words cut deep, shattering Ryan's confidence.
"What makes you say I'm nothing?" Ryan shot back.
"What do you have?" Xavier's question left Ryan speechless.
"I have money and power. I'm the heir to the Montgomery family. I can have whatever I want."
"Did you earn that money and power? Without the Montgomery name, who would even know you?" Xavier sneered. "Patrick is so smart. How did he end up with such a dumb son?"
"Xavier, you..." Ryan clenched his jaw, eyes burning with rage, but he couldn't bring himself to act.
"If you don't want to be thrown out, leave on your own." Xavier was exhausted and didn't want to deal with Ryan anymore.
Sitting on the ground, Ryan watched Xavier walk into the villa, Xavier's words echoing in his mind. The sense of superiority Xavier exuded gnawed at him. Ryan's fists tightened, his body trembling with frustration and anger.
'Why did Xavier get everything? The women he liked, even Grace. Why did they all prefer Xavier? Didn't Xavier have plenty of women? Didn't Grace care?'
They all looked down on him. One day, he'd prove them all wrong.
Late that night, Grace got a message from an unknown number—Ryan using a different phone.
Ryan: [Grace, I talked to Xavier. I don't know what sweet lies he told you, but he said you were just a fling.]
Ryan had tried to record their conversation but got nothing useful.
Ryan: [Think about it. He's a big shot, and what are you? Some dreams are better left unfulfilled. I haven't changed my mind; I'm still willing to marry you. Otherwise, someone like you, who's been with others, wouldn't be accepted by most wealthy families.]
Grace, still awake, felt her blood pressure rise as she read Ryan's message.
Ryan had visited Xavier?
Unsure of Xavier's response, Grace pondered Ryan's actions.
She couldn't understand Ryan's twisted sense of nobility. Why was it okay for men to have affairs, but women faced shame for any indiscretion?
Grace replied: [Don't worry about whether anyone wants me. Scum like you should be castrated. If you can live well, I'll definitely live better than you.]
After sending the message, Grace blocked Ryan's number.
Ryan's visit to Xavier left Grace puzzled about his intentions.
She speculated that Ryan might have been aggressive with Xavier. Grace didn't need to guess; she knew Ryan's mind was filled with crude notions. He thought he was entitled to mistresses while expecting others to be faithful to him.
In Ryan's world, everything revolved around him. Anything unwanted could be discarded, and anything he desired had to be his, no matter the cost.
