Chapter 197 Was Last Night Your First Time?

Grace hadn't even gotten a word in before Angela started rambling, getting more excited and less accurate as she went.

If Grace didn't cut in soon, who knew what wild thing Angela would say next.

"No!"

"No what?" Angela asked.

Grace knew Angela was a good friend and felt bad for keeping secrets. So she decided to come clean.

"I'm not getting back at Ryan," Grace said quietly.

She admitted she initially approached Xavier with a hidden agenda but she never thought it would work out so fast. From then on, every time she was with Xavier, it was all about him—Ryan was completely out of the picture.

Angela got even more excited. "So if it's not about Ryan, does that mean you and Xavier are for real?"

Grace didn't deny it, nodding slightly under the blanket.

"You're a role model! You snagged a guy like Xavier!"

"This move is genius. You finally took my advice!"

"Now spill the details. How did you two end up in bed? I need all the details!"

Angela was thrilled. Even though things with Omari seemed hopeless, she was genuinely happy for Grace.

She always thought Grace deserved better, and Grace and Xavier seemed perfect together. She wasn't joking.

She had suspected something was up between Grace and Xavier for a while, like they were keeping secrets from her. Now it seemed like they might have been involved way earlier than she thought!

Grace said, "It's nothing, really. Last night was just like you imagined."

"Be honest, was last night your first time?" Angela asked, curious.

Grace shook her head. "No."

Angela was shocked.

"Grace, you kept this from me so well. When did it start? If you don't tell me, I'll be mad." Angela pretended to be angry.

Grace knew Angela was just pretending. Angela was a good person and wouldn't really get mad.

"You have to promise not to tell anyone about me and Xavier," Grace said.

"I promise, I swear. Don't you trust me? I'm great at keeping secrets. I never even told anyone, not even Omari, about how beautiful you are."

She trusted Angela's loyalty. If Angela promised to keep quiet, she definitely would.

Grace then lay on the bed, propping her chin on a pillow, and briefly told Angela about her and Xavier.

At first, Angela's jaw dropped in shock. But as the story unfolded, her eyes widened like they might pop out.

Angela thought Grace and Xavier had only started recently. Who would've thought it began right when Xavier returned to the country?

"Grace, you hid this so well, and you even kept it from me!" Angela pretended to be mad.

"Don't be mad. I didn't do it on purpose. It involves Xavier, so I couldn't just say anything."

Angela remembered something. "So, when I ran into Xavier in the bathroom that time, you were in there too?"

Grace didn't expect Angela to bring that up. She nodded; it was indeed her.

"Wow, Grace, you were doing that in the bathroom!"

"Xavier and I didn't do anything. It's not what you think, and definitely not like Madison and Daniel. We just talked for a bit, nothing happened," Grace quickly explained, trying to prevent any misunderstandings.

"Then why didn't you tell me at the time?"

"I wasn't ready, and I didn't know how to bring it up. You're my best friend; I didn't want to keep it from you. Please don't be mad." Grace held Angela's hand, her eyes pleading for understanding.

"I'm not mad. I'm thrilled. I always hoped you'd leave that douchebag Ryan and find someone better. But Grace, are you sure about Xavier?" Angela asked.

Grace shook her head. "No, Xavier and I are just about desire, not feelings. We're both adults."

"Is that really true? I'm worried. Xavier is so great; I'm afraid you'll fall for him." Angela could sense that Grace didn't see Xavier as just anyone.

On the contrary, when Grace mentioned Xavier, she sounded genuinely happy. The look in her eyes was unmistakable; they sparkled with a newfound brightness. Despite her reluctance to admit it, Xavier was definitely carving out a special place in her heart.

"I don't think I'll fall for him," Grace said, looking ahead, a hint of confusion in her eyes.

She knew Xavier was great and that he didn't belong to her. She never hoped for something that wasn't hers.

Angela poked her head. "You have to control yourself. Even if you do fall, make sure Xavier falls first."

"Haven't you heard the saying, 'The one who falls in love first loses'? If you're truly into Xavier, you should know who your rivals are. They're all formidable women, like Stephanie, she'd crush you without a second thought." Angela added.

Grace knew this. She never thought about being with Xavier or having him.

Angela said, "But Xavier isn't a douchebag, right? He's not stringing you along while seeing other women. We saw him shopping with Stephanie last time, remember?"

"Then he buys you a gift to make you happy. It's just a bit more expensive. Wait, this sounds like a douchebag's trick to fool girls. He's not just playing with you because you're pretty, is he?"

Grace shook her head. "I don't know, but I don't think he's that kind of person."

More often than not, Grace found herself alongside Xavier in her makeup state. If his attraction was solely based on her looks, he'd likely struggle to appreciate her unadorned everyday look.

"You're already defending him?" Angela analyzed. "If he's not that kind of person, why isn't he helping you break off the engagement? Is he just going to stand by and let you marry Ryan while maintaining this secret relationship with you?"

Grace looked ahead. "Breaking off the engagement is my own business. There's no reason for him to help, and I don't want to involve him in too many interests."

After baring her soul to Angela, Grace felt a weight lift off her shoulders. Their friendship was a sanctuary of honesty and support.

"Let's not talk about this anymore. Come rest with me!" Grace said, pulling Angela down to sleep with her.

In the end, Angela fell asleep, but Grace didn't. She got up and took a couple of finance books from the shelf to read.
