Chapter 233 Xavier Is Indeed Simple and Direct
Grace got home, showered, and was ready to relax. Just as she lay down, a message from Xavier popped up on her phone.
She opened the picture and burst out laughing. The hospital's bandaging job was a hilarious mess, and she couldn't help but be amused.
Grace forwarded the photo to Angela and replied to Xavier, [Who is this? How did he end up like this?]
Xavier saw through her act, and replied with a smirk: [Patrick.]
Grace: [Patrick got beat up? Karma's quick, huh?]
As long as Grace didn't admit it, no one would know it was her!
Xavier stayed silent, confirming her guess.
Xavier: [Did you enjoy beating up Patrick?]
Grace knew she couldn't hide it from Xavier and didn't see the point in trying.
Grace: [It felt good then, but now my hand hurts.]
Xavier: [Don't do this next time.]
Grace read Xavier's message. She pondered, 'Does he think I shouldn't have beaten up Patrick? Well, it's too late now.'
Just as she was about to reply, Xavier sent another message: [Use a baseball bat next time.]
Grace was shocked by his blunt suggestion.
Grace: [What if it kills him?]
'If I had used a bat, Patrick might be in a coffin,' she thought.
Xavier: [I'll handle it.]
Upon reading his message, Grace's heart raced. Xavier always left her guessing, making it easy to misinterpret his intentions.
While texting Grace, Xavier also messaged Mason to check the surveillance and handle any loose ends.
Ryan noticed Xavier's good mood and wondered who he was chatting with. Was it Grace?
"Xavier, did you do this?" Ryan asked, trying to peek at Xavier's phone.
Xavier didn't look up. "You can see how hard I hit next time." Meaning, the light injury wasn't his doing.
Ryan fell silent, glaring at Xavier with hatred, but Xavier didn't care. Ryan had no power over him. Xavier glanced at Patrick and left quickly.
Patrick needed to stay in the hospital for a few days to recover. His face was a mess.
"Dad, trust me with the company. I've changed. I won't let you down," Ryan pleaded, seeing this as his chance.
"Trust you? How can I be sure?" Patrick knew what kind of person Ryan was.
Ryan insisted, "Dad, just give me a chance."
Amy added, "Yes, honey, Ryan has grown up. Let him try."
Patrick thought for a moment. Since Ryan would eventually take over, it was a good time to train him. "Alright, you handle the company for the next few days," he agreed.
Even though Grace had beaten up Patrick, he still had her mother's ashes. The wedding was at the end of the month, just a few days away.
Patrick wouldn't easily give up Evelyn's ashes, and he wouldn't do anything to them before the wedding. So, Grace still had a chance.
Grace decided to play it smart. Instead of getting her hands dirty, she'd pull the strings from behind the scenes, just like Xavier.
Kelly, always eager and efficient, seemed perfect for the job.
Grace didn't know Kelly's exact whereabouts but was sure she was keeping tabs on everything.
Instead of contacting Kelly directly, Grace posted a tweet visible only to Kelly. It read: [I heard the Montgomery family is still prepping for the wedding. Who's Ryan marrying? Did someone work hard just to hand it over for free?]
Kelly had ditched her old phone and stuff, but getting a new one was easy. As she scrolled through her feed, Grace's tweet caught her eye. Kelly's grip tightened on her phone, her eyes glued to the screen, emotions swirling.
She mused, 'What did Grace mean by saying the Montgomery family was still preparing for the wedding?'
Kelly knew the Montgomery family was looking for her, so she stayed hidden, waiting for the right moment.
She had planned to have someone rough up Ryan, but it hadn't worked out. She knew she could only relax once her plans succeeded. Initially, she wanted to wait a bit longer, but Grace's tweet shattered her calm, sparking urgency.
Kelly quickly contacted James, asking him to find out if the Montgomery family was still planning the wedding and who it was for.
The engagement with Grace was publicly called off, so it couldn't be her.
Few knew about Patrick threatening Grace, so even if James investigated, he wouldn't find anything. This made Kelly panic.
Grace's words about giving away efforts for free jolted Kelly into action. If she managed to break off Grace and Ryan's engagement, only for another woman to marry Ryan, all her efforts would be wasted.
This time, her plan had to be decisive and flawless. No room for error.
Kelly felt trapped by her past actions. She had invested too much in pursuing Ryan. Becoming his wife was the only way to validate all her schemes and efforts.
Meanwhile, Ryan started managing the Montgomery Group and quickly realized it wasn't what he imagined.
In the past, Patrick was in control, and Ryan, as the general manager, had a laid-back attitude, coming and going as he pleased. Given Ryan's high position, the other shareholders treated him with respect.
But ever since the shareholders knew Ryan had given ten percent of the shares to Grace and hadn't gotten them back, his position in the company plummeted.
With Patrick not coming to the company, Ryan was in charge, and the shareholders were even more dissatisfied.
Ryan wanted to make a big impact. With his intense personality and reluctance to listen to others, he quickly found himself in trouble. In just two days, he had rubbed many people the wrong way.
With some projects the shareholders didn't agree with, Ryan thought they had potential and insisted on signing them. To him, those who opposed him were short-sighted.
The shareholders grew increasingly dissatisfied with Ryan's domineering behavior. When they confronted him, Ryan snapped, "Don't forget whose company this is. You may have some shares, but I'm the sole heir. My decisions are none of your concern."
