Chapter 603 Caught Jared
"I'll ask the staff if there's any food left from breakfast. I'll have it tested," Scott said right away.
Steven had been busy with other matters and hadn't been staying with them. For the past few days, it had just been the three of them at the Coleman Villa.
If it were food poisoning, they all should have been affected since they all ate the same food.
However, the villa reported that all the leftover breakfast had been thrown out, which complicated things.
It seemed unlikely that someone in the villa would poison them, as the staff had all been background-checked.
Chase was still in the hospital room, with Grace and the others by his side. Chase hadn't woken up yet, and everyone was keeping him company.
"Grace, have a seat," Angela said, pulling over a chair.
"Thanks, Angela. You can go if you have things to do. My cousin and I are here, so you don't need to worry."
"I don't have much to do anyway. I'll stay here with you."
Fortunately, Chase woke up not long after, which was a huge relief for everyone.
The doctor said Chase still needed to be monitored. Scott and Steven stayed at the hospital, but by the next day, Chase's condition seemed to worsen.
The cause was still undetermined, and Chase was moved to the ICU.
"If it really is poisoning, Scott, you, Angela, and Grandpa all ate the same food. Maybe you should all get checked out?"
Scott agreed and took Angela to get tested.
Angela initially insisted she felt fine, but the tests revealed otherwise.
Both Angela and Scott had the same substance in their blood as Chase, but Chase's condition was more severe, likely due to his age.
Their symptoms were mild, only showing up as anomalies in their health reports. Without Chase's situation, they wouldn't have thought to get tested and might have discovered the problem too late.
"Damn it, we got played so easily!" Scott was furious.
"You've all been poisoned. It has to be the food. We need to investigate the staff," Grace said.
But they were a step too late. The cook had already fled the day before.
Tracking the cook wasn't too difficult, but by the time they found her, she was dead.
"Dead?" Grace frowned deeply. It was too sudden.
No one would believe it wasn't orchestrated.
Whoever poisoned their food, Grace had a suspect in mind.
Jared!
It had to be Jared!
The cook's death was surely Jared's doing to silence her.
Grace said, "If Jared contacted the cook, there must be traces. If she were the one who poisoned the food, there should be poison on her. If we can find it, we might be able to develop an antidote."
Chase's condition was becoming increasingly critical. The doctors had no solutions, having never encountered such a case. They were doing everything they could.
Even a global team of experts couldn't figure out Chase's illness.
Evidence of Jared's contact with the cook was soon found. Jared had threatened her using her family.
When Xavier learned of this, he quickly took Grace for a check-up. Grace was fine, which was a relief.
Luckily, most of the food Grace ate was prepared by Xavier himself. If he was too busy, it was sent from the Bameran Villa.
The people at Bameran Villa were those Xavier had helped. Most of them were loyal to him and wouldn't easily betray him.
"Jared did this to create leverage. He must have the antidote, but he'll have conditions. We haven't found Jared yet, but I believe he'll show himself soon," Xavier said calmly.
His guess was correct. Jared didn't hide for long and appeared openly at the airport.
His flight was headed to Skigeth.
Xavier's people followed Jared throughout the flight to Skigeth.
After landing, Jared walked around boldly, seemingly unafraid.
However, Xavier's people quickly brought Jared to the Coleman Villa.
Scott, usually calm, was ready to fight when his family was threatened.
Jared had crossed the line.
Scott immediately punched Jared hard. "You killed my aunt! What did she ever do to you?"
Scott, still furious, hit him again. "My grandfather is so old, and you still went after him. Jared, are you even human? Don't you feel ashamed of the name your parents gave you?"
If Jared weren't the only one with the antidote, Scott would have beaten him to death.
Jared, blood on his lips, wiped it away and looked at the Coleman family.
The facade was gone. Jared had no reason to pretend anymore.
"Watching you all think you're so smart while I played you was quite satisfying."
Jared even managed a smile, his gaze landing on Grace, but was quickly blocked by Xavier.
Xavier was always in the way.
"Since we're all smart here, let's cut to the chase. Hand over the antidote, or we'll make your life a living hell."
Xavier's eyes were cold as he looked at Jared.
Jared didn't deserve to live.
But Jared, a scumbag, always had backup plans.
Jared laughed. "I don't care, but I doubt the old man can wait much longer."
"You're still smug even now!" Scott was livid.
He had once respected Jared, but it was all an act. It was disgusting.
Jared said, "I do have the antidote, but I want to talk to Grace alone."
His target had always been Grace.
"No way!" The three men said in unison.
Jared didn't deserve to be alone with Grace. Who knew what he was planning?
Jared claimed to love Elizabeth, yet he killed her. Even if Grace was his biological daughter, Jared might still harm her.
"Then there's nothing to discuss. Kill me and let Chase die with me. It's worth it." Jared's attitude was indifferent.
He remained arrogant, making everyone furious.
"You're the ones who need me, not the other way around."
