Chapter 666 Surrounded and Beaten
Grace had a pair of flats in her car, knowing that high heels weren't always practical. After swapping her shoes, she drove herself home.
As she drove, her thoughts wandered to the man who had held her earlier. The rapid heartbeat, the familiar embrace—it was just like six years ago. The feeling was so familiar, it was as if she had traveled back in time.
But who was this Mr. K? What was his deal? He seemed to have a lot of pull in political circles, and people seemed to be scared of him. In a country like Aetheria, where regular folks couldn't carry guns, this guy openly had one and nobody dared to stop him. His status was clearly something else.
Grace knew it wasn't safe to be lost in thought while driving, so she quickly refocused on the road. She drove steadily, not too fast, and soon arrived at the Coleman Villa.
Nick had already arranged for his men to wait there. He knew Grace had gone out and had checked her license plate. As he saw a car approaching from a distance, he rallied his men. "That's Grace's car. Let's go, guys. We need to kidnap her!"
Whether he could get the money and survive depended on the success of this operation. As Grace's car approached, they blocked the road. It was dark, and she couldn't see clearly, but the scene felt familiar. The men were armed with knives and clubs, clearly up to no good.
Grace's car was forced to a stop. She then recognized Nick among the group. With so many people blocking her way, she couldn't just drive through them without causing serious harm.
Nick and his men surrounded her car. He tried to open the door, shouting, "Grace, get out of the car!" He looked like he was there to cause trouble. Grace sighed, thinking how reckless he was.
Despite the numbers against her, Grace wasn't easily intimidated. She didn't want to deal with the hassle. She thought about calling Steven, but he didn't answer. Meanwhile, Nick was banging on the car window.
"Grace, get out! Cooperate, and I won't hurt you."
The car door shook as they tried to force it open. The window shattered, and a shard of glass cut Grace's hand, drawing blood. With no other choice, she got out of the car, her face calm and composed.
"Nick, we can talk this out," she said, knowing they could easily capture her now that the car door was broken.
Nick saw her holding her phone and had one of his men snatch it away. Just as Steven answered, "Hello, Grace?" the call was cut off. Nick glared at her. "Grace, you forced me into this. You pushed me to the edge. If I'm going down, I'm taking you with me!"
"This is your own doing," Grace shot back. "If you hadn't canceled our deal and kept funding us, the projects wouldn't have failed, and I wouldn't be in debt. Grace, give me five hundred million dollars, and I'll let you go. Otherwise, I'll kidnap you and make your family pay the ransom!"
"Nick, five hundred million dollars? You're out of your mind. Canceling our deal was the right move. I even paid you a hefty penalty for breaking the contract. You took the money and signed the papers. Now you're pulling this?"
Grace's eyes were cold. She didn't feel she had done anything wrong. Nick had ruined his own company with his gambling addiction. She had just cut her losses.
"You're leaving me no choice. If you don't agree, we'll have to use force," Nick said, ordering his men to attack.
Grace narrowed her eyes. She had learned some self-defense over the years. As the men approached, she kicked Nick hard and started to run. She wasn't sure if she could take them all, but she had to try.
Just as she was about to fight back, she saw something that made her smile. She stopped resisting, letting them surround her.
"Do you really think you can escape?" Nick taunted.
Grace remained silent. She had no intention of running. Nick laughed, "If you had cooperated, I wouldn't have had to hurt you."
Two men grabbed her arms, and Nick approached, leering at her. He noticed how beautiful she looked with her makeup, even more alluring than usual. He reached out, tilting her chin. "Grace, you're so beautiful."
His gaze made her feel sick. Though her hands were restrained, she kicked him hard in the groin. Nick doubled over in pain, cursing. He raised his hand to slap her, but before he could, he screamed in pain.
Nick clutched his bleeding wrist. Grace wasn't surprised but noted the familiarity of the scene. The smell of blood filled the air. It reminded her of the time at the Thalassia airport when someone had tried to kidnap her, and a bullet had saved her.
She hadn't seen the shooter then, but she knew it was one of Hugh's men, someone called Killer. Now, a similar scene played out. A silenced bullet had hit Nick's wrist without harming anyone else.
Grace's mind raced. Mr. K, Killer!
