Even though she was on vacation, she didn't slack off on work at all.
There were still many things at the factory that need Grace's decision, and now it's also evening. Grace, why not just handle the work here?
Just then, the staff member who had just spoken to Grace came over and said, "Ms. Lewis, we checked, and there are extra rooms available."
"Hmm? Wasn't it said that there weren't any extras?"
"It was a mistake on the part of our staff. Actually, there is another set."
"Can I stay then?"
"I took you there." the staff member was much more enthusiastic than before.
Grace closed the computer and followed behind, saying, "Thank you, I appreciate your help."
Half-believing, Grace followed behind him, with her fingers even resting on the emergency call button. If anything went wrong, she would press it without hesitation.
She was mainly afraid that it was Ryan again or a trap set up by Daniel.
Being framed multiple times naturally made one think more.
The staff took Grace to the other side, where there was a separate small building, which was much better than the one they were in just now.
"Ms. Lewis, here we are. Please rest well, and if you need anything, just let us know," the staff said.
Grace glanced around the suite, finding nothing out of the ordinary
"I appreciate your assistance," said Grace.
Grace set down her suitcase. Thankfully, she wouldn't have to sleep outside tonight.
Grace had already planned to work outside for one night. It seemed like fate was still on her side.
She continued dealing with unfinished tasks when, suddenly, the sound of a door closing came from behind.
Grace was taken aback; who was it?
Upon turning around, she failed to discern anything clearly as all the room's lights suddenly extinguished, plunging her into a moment of darkness, with only the faint glow emanating from the notebook before her.
She remained motionless for an instant, daring not to make a move, even holding her breath.
"Who goes there?"
"Cease these supernatural charades. Who sent you, and what is your intent?"
However, a hush enveloped the surroundings, devoid of any sound.
It was as if the earlier door opening was but a figment of her imagination.
"If I offended you in any way, feel free to speak up," Grace said as she touched the phone beside her.
She dared not move, and as soon as she opened her phone, she was ready to call for help.
However, before she could dial the number, someone grabbed her hand, and Grace's phone fell to the ground.
The notebook was closed by an unseen hand, plunging the room into absolute darkness. In the next moment, a figure pressed against Grace. Encircling Grace between himself and the table, the brisk scent of cedar filled the air. It felt vaguely familiar to Grace until a gravelly voice sounded.
"How so? My nephew no longer wants you?"
It is the familiar scent and the familiar timbre.
Grace's heart still trembling, hesitant to confirm, "Xavier?"
"Is it truly you?"
Xavier, still holding onto Grace, stood close in the darkness, their bodies pressed intimately together. Xavier's breath was labored, its weight palpable to Grace, who could discern his every exhale.
"Why, do you wish it was me or not?"
Grace was indeed startled just now, but upon hearing Xavier's voice, she unexpectedly felt a sense of winning a jackpot in her heart.
"I was outside. Did you see me?"
Grace thought of Xavier's earlier words. "My nephew doesn't want you anymore," and that's when she understood.
How did a room suddenly appear? It is probably Xavier's room.
"What do you think?"
"Thank you for taking me in. I'm going to turn on the lights," Grace said before getting ready to stand up.
But she forgot that someone beside the table was still trapped in her. When she suddenly stood up, she bumped right into Xavier's arms.
Because it was too dark to see anything, she even accidentally brushed her lips against something soft.
"I'm sorry, it wasn't intentional," said Grace.
However, Xavier had already sat up straight, and Grace could feel the pressure in front of her dissipating.
Grace exhaled a long breath, rubbing her flushed cheeks. Just as she was about to switch on the lights, she heard Xavier call out, "Turn on the lights."
The next moment, all the lights in the house turned on. She almost forgot that this was an era of smart control.
Grace looked up and saw the man in front of her.
Xavier still wore a well-tailored suit, his features extremely close-up, his face flawless without a single blemish, and his skin so good that even girls would be envious.
Viewed from below, Grace found that Xavier's jawline curved to perfection. His hair swept back to reveal a full forehead, presenting a post-work elite appearance at its finest.
The amber eyes had been seen. The moment Grace locked eyes with Xavier, she felt like she was electrocuted. Her brain went numb for a moment. She quickly turned her face away, avoiding Xavier's gaze.
Grace prepared to retrieve her phone, but Xavier beat her to it, taking the initiative.
He stooped down, handing the phone to Grace with equally striking hands—his well-defined, dry fingers seemed to have left a lingering warmth on Grace's wrist, intensifying the moment.
Grace brought the phone over. "Thank you."
"So, my nephew really doesn't want you anymore?"
"It is I who do not want him."
Xavier smirked icily, the smile not reaching his eyes.
Suddenly, Xavier reached out, grasping Grace's chin, scrutinizing her features.
"Shall I offer early congratulations on your honeymoon together?" he inquired.
"Did Xavier want me to go on a honeymoon with him or not?" Grace directly asked Xavier.
"Hmm." Xavier's lips curled up in a slight arc as he released Grace's chin.
There seemed to be a hint of indescribable irritability in his heart, and he suddenly felt like having a smoke.
There were indeed no extra rooms in the mansion, and he didn't know why. Seeing Grace sitting alone under that umbrella, looking homeless, made him bring her to his room.
Clearly, she was here with Ryan, and with just a word from him, Ryan wouldn't possibly leave Grace outside.
Turning off the lights upon their arrival was merely a playful attempt to startle Grace, to jest with her.
At this moment, Grace retorted, "Here for a stint in prison."
Perhaps Ryan comes here to honeymoon with those women, while she, here, feels more discomfort than being incarcerated.
However, in the presence of Xavier, the discomfort seems somewhat alleviated.
At least this room is far more comfortable than the alternative.
"Did you feel wronged by Ryan?"
"No." Grace shook her head.
There was really no grievance, and it's just uncomfortable to see that person. She wished her world would never have Ryan.
Moreover, all her grievances had been returned on the spot.
"Tell me, how did he kick you out?"
Xavier walked over to the sofa and sat down, crossing his long legs together. He leaned back slightly, assuming the posture of a boss.
On the coffee table rested a cigarette and a lighter, from which he selected one.
"Do you know how to light it?" His profound gaze turned towards Grace.
"I do!" Grace approached, half kneeling beside Xavier, took the lighter, pressed it down, and kindled the cigarette for Xavier.
Then she said, "It's not like he kicked me out; I just didn't want to see him, so I left on my own."
Grace briefly explained what had happened, and Xavier just responded with a simple "Hmm" before picking up his phone and sending a message.
In the room where Grace departed, Ryan was even more displeased. However, soon, he transformed this discomfort into amusement, reveling in joy with the two other ladies, using this as a means to cast aside thoughts of Grace.
At that moment, the room's door swung open abruptly, catching Ryan in a state of undress. His expression was a mix of shock and anticipation as he gazed at the three individuals entering.
"Who are you? What do you want to do?"
However, those three individuals walked in directly, lifted Ryan, and threw him out.
"I'm sorry, Mr. Ryan Montgomery, you cannot stay in this room tonight."
