Chapter 613 Waiting for Your Explanation

"I'm at The Bameran Villa."

Xavier was confused about why Grace was at The Bameran Villa, but he replied, "I'll be there soon."

Xavier drove himself, speeding through the streets, and arrived at The Bameran Villa in less than half an hour.

The butler greeted Xavier as he rushed in, "Mr. Montgomery."

"Where's Grace?"

"Ms. Lewis is in the study."

Xavier immediately headed to the study. He opened the door and saw Grace standing in front of a bookshelf, a row of finance books in front of her.

Xavier's study was large and filled with many books, some of which were rare collectibles.

Grace was staring at the books, but it was unclear if she was actually reading them.

Xavier strode in, walked up behind Grace, and gently embraced her.

"What are you reading?"

"Just browsing." Grace had heard Xavier come in; he wasn't exactly quiet.

"Why did you suddenly come here?" Xavier couldn't resist kissing Grace's cheek.

Soft and fragrant, just perfect!

He held Grace tightly, not wanting to let go.

He felt foolish; if he had just asked a few more questions earlier, he could have known the truth sooner.

"I was waiting for you." Grace moved slightly. "Let go of me first, let's talk over there."

Grace wanted to sit on the sofa, but Xavier picked her up instead.

"You..."

Grace didn't expect Xavier to pick her up for just a few steps.

"Go ahead, what do you want to tell me?" Xavier placed Grace on the sofa and knelt in front of her.

He wanted to be close to her, to be near her.

Xavier's actions made it hard for Grace to stay angry.

"Shouldn't you be explaining something to me? Where did you go earlier?" Grace asked, pretending to be stern.

She wanted to be angry, but knowing it was fake, she couldn't muster the emotion.

She knew Xavier well; even if she saw surveillance footage, she wouldn't believe it.

Jared was manipulative, and Grace wouldn't trust him. But she deserved an explanation about Xavier and Brittany.

"I went to see Brittany," Xavier replied.

Grace nodded. "Continue."

But Xavier didn't continue; he just looked at Grace.

He even reached out and touched her cheek. "Not jealous?"

"Why should I be jealous? Did you do something behind my back?"

"I was with another woman. Shouldn't you be jealous?" Xavier asked.

"Do you think I'm the jealous type? Should I be jealous every day? There are so many women in the world. If I were jealous every time you were alone with another woman, I'd be jealous all the time!"

Seeing Grace's expression, Xavier felt a wave of tenderness.

But before he could say anything, Grace continued, "But why did you have to meet in a hotel?"

"What hotel?"

"Wasn't it? It looked like a hotel room. I saw you two hugging tightly. Did Mr. Montgomery enjoy it?" Grace gritted her teeth.

Even though she knew it was fake, she wanted to make Xavier anxious and explain himself.

Xavier was stunned. "You saw it?"

"Why, didn't you want me to see it?"

"Of course not. Brittany and I are innocent. There's nothing to hide. Someone's trying to mess with us. I did meet Brittany, but it wasn't a hotel. It was a room made to look like one, to throw you off."

Xavier thought of something. "Did Jared show you a video?"

Last time, Jared showed him a video of Brittany being tied up.

Grace said, "Really?"

"Really," Xavier said firmly.

Grace reached out and touched Xavier's face. "I thought if Mr. Montgomery had another lover, I'd kick you out!"

Xavier moved closer, squeezing onto the sofa with Grace.

"Mrs. Montgomery will never have that chance."

"Don't call me that. I'm not your wife yet!"

"But we will be in two days when we get our marriage license, right?"

"That's still two days away. But I'm serious. If you ever have another woman, I'll kick you out."

"I've told you, I'll never give you that chance."

Xavier leaned in to kiss Grace, but she pushed him away.

"Don't get so close. It's hot."

She noticed a strange smell on Xavier, like blood, but faint.

"Are you hurt?" Grace lifted Xavier's arm.

"No."

"Then why do I smell blood?"

It must be from when he shot Brittany. Though he wasn't splattered with blood, the scent lingered.

"I'll change my clothes."

Xavier quickly took off his jacket and tossed it aside.

Clearly, he wasn't planning to keep the six-figure jacket.

"No need. You said you'd explain. Go ahead, I want details!"

Xavier looked at Grace with a complex expression, then rested his chin on her shoulder.

"Before I explain, I need to ask you something."

"What?"

"When you were a kid, did you ever bring food to someone at South Courtyard?"

"There was a dog hole in the wall. You were outside, and the person was inside."

Of course, Grace remembered.

"How do you know? You..." Grace looked at Xavier in shock.

She had never told anyone about this. Xavier couldn't have found out.

Could Xavier be the mute boy from back then?

The person inside never spoke, so Grace thought he was mute.

Grace had said a lot to him, encouraging words.

The courtyard wall was high, with an electric fence. Grace couldn't get in.

The person inside never spoke. Grace thought it was a dog at first, hence the food deliveries.

Later, she realized it was a person. She talked to him, but he never responded. She asked what had happened and why he was alone, but he did not answer.

She even considered calling the police, but they dismissed her as a troublemaker.

When Zach locked her at home, she missed a day of food delivery. When she returned, the food was untouched, and the person seemed gone.

Grace was worried, fearing the person was hurt or dead.

She tried various ways, finally convincing the police to check, but the place was empty, with no signs of habitation.

It felt like Grace's efforts were a dream, an illusion.

Xavier hugged her tighter and said, "It was me."
