Chapter 238 So Beautiful He Wants to Hide Her
"No need," Xavier said. "Go get the dress."
The manager had no choice but to comply. It was a light blue gown, and in all his years in fashion, he'd never seen anyone pull it off.
If Grace looked ridiculous, it wasn't his fault for not warning her.
Grace went into the nearby fitting room and saw the dress hanging there, along with a pair of high heels.
Outside, Xavier casually flipped through a magazine, exuding elegance and sophistication without saying a word.
The manager attended to him cautiously, even having a few backup gowns ready, fearing Xavier might get angry.
"Mr. Montgomery, these gowns are also nice. Maybe you could take a look..."
Before he could finish, Grace walked out.
Xavier and the manager looked up simultaneously. Xavier's eyes darkened, while the manager gasped, staring at Grace.
The light blue dress hugged her curves perfectly. Grace's figure was impeccable, filling out the gown beautifully. The sweetheart neckline accentuated her slender waist, making it seem like it could be held with one hand.
The long skirt had delicate pleats that swayed gently with her steps, like a mermaid dancing in the ocean, exuding silent allure under the moonlight.
The manager blinked. He had thought Grace too plain for the dress, but now he retracted his judgment.
Grace hadn't changed much; she had simply let her hair down, with a few strands tucked behind her ears, revealing delicate earrings. The red tassels of the earrings had a classical beauty, hanging gracefully beside her elegant neck. Her skin was smooth, her eyes sparkled, and she wore no other jewelry, looking naturally perfect.
'She is so stunning!' the manager thought.
Grace's previously ordinary face now looked much more beautiful, especially her eyes.
"How is it?" Grace asked, feeling unsure since Xavier hadn't said anything.
"It's very..." Xavier began, but the manager interrupted.
"This is absolutely stunning, miss. This dress was practically made for you. I apologize for my lack of vision earlier. Please don't hold it against me." He signaled the staff to quickly remove the backup gowns.
As Grace approached, her earrings swayed, almost dancing in Xavier's heart. His gaze intensified, locked onto Grace, the veins on his hand subtly protruding. If it weren't for the setting, he would have pulled Grace into the restroom to show his affection. She looked even more beautiful than he had imagined.
"How is it? Is there anything that doesn't fit?" Grace asked, feeling the dress fit quite well.
Xavier's Adam's apple bobbed, his throat tight. "No," he said firmly.
The dress had been tailored to Grace's measurements by a designer Xavier had commissioned. He knew her measurements very well.
"That's good." Grace was satisfied. After all, she was attending as Xavier's date and didn't want to embarrass him.
"Let's go," Xavier said, standing up.
"Wait, I think there's a makeup room over there. I'll touch up my makeup," Grace said, having noticed it earlier.
"We have professional makeup artists. I can call them for you," the manager offered.
"No need, I'll do it myself." Grace went back to the makeup room, using remover to take off her makeup, quickly returning to her natural look.
She had joked with Xavier about going out like this to test if he was superficial.
With the Montgomery family present, Grace thought it best not to attend as Xavier's date. She didn't know who else would be at the party, which could lead to more trouble.
Grace applied light makeup, adding a bit of light blue eyeshadow to match the dress, making her look even more like a mermaid.
Makeup took longer than changing clothes, and Xavier waited patiently outside. After a while, Grace finally came out.
Seeing Grace again, the manager and Xavier had completely different reactions.
The manager's eyes nearly popped out. Was this just a touch-up? It was like she had a new face!
Grace had looked beautiful in the dress before, but now she was stunning. Everything beautiful seemed to pale in comparison to her.
Grace's makeup wasn't heavy, but it made her look pure and natural, exuding a noble aura that seemed unattainable. Just looking at her felt like desecrating a goddess.
Xavier's pupils contracted, his gaze fixed on Grace's beautiful face. He had never viewed himself as possessive, never identifying anything as solely his that others couldn't access.
Yet, in that moment, Xavier found himself hesitating to bring Grace to the party. With her looking so captivating, he wished to shield her from prying eyes. He desired to keep her hidden, so only he could bask in her beauty.
"What's wrong? Is it not good?" Grace asked, seeing Xavier's suddenly cold expression, thinking he didn't like her look. If Xavier didn't want her to go out like this, she would revert to her previous unattractive look.
"It's not good," Xavier uttered.
"Should I redo my makeup?"
"Yes, make it uglier."
Grace fell silent, pondering Xavier's words. Did he mean she looked better now? The uncertainty lingered in her mind, prompting a secret smile.
Returning to the makeup room, she effortlessly recreated her usual understated look.
Xavier followed Grace into the makeup room, and seeing her appearance, he still seemed dissatisfied. He personally took a dark powder puff and applied it to her face, focusing on one spot until Grace felt her face looked like a pot bottom.
She suddenly remembered the first time she revealed her true appearance to Xavier. Had he done her makeup like this too?
"Wait, do you have a grudge against me? Can I still be seen like this?" Grace looked at her darkened face in the mirror.
Xavier said, "I think it looks just fine."
Grace thought it looked terrible. She was attending as Xavier's date, and if she looked too ugly, it would embarrass Xavier too. She pushed the meddling Xavier out and redid her makeup herself.
Grace retained her usual appearance, her complexion was lighter, and her makeup was more sophisticated. She stood out without overshadowing others, striking a perfect balance between beauty and humility.
Xavier was now very satisfied with Grace's face.
